THE GHOST TRAIN is a well-remembered but slight and rather dated comedy horror film, made in Britain and written by none other than Arnold Ridley - best known these days for his role as Godfrey in DAD'S ARMY. It's essentially a vehicle for music hall entertainer Arthur Askey, who comes across as intensely irritating playing the comic relief here. He literally saps life and enjoyment from the film, which is otherwise quite interesting, featuring a bunch of characters trapped overnight at a dismal train and haunted by various atmospherics. Kathleen Harrison also appears and does a much better job of down-playing it, but Askey is too large and boisterous a presence for this to be entertaining.
