HARVEST LAKE is a teens-in-the-woods horror film with a difference. It's a slow burner, completely ambiguous for the most part, a film which benefits from a Lovecraftian climax you won't see coming. Unfortunately, this part of the film only occupies the last five minutes of the running time, and up until that point it's something of a bore.
The director does create an arresting opening scene featuring extensive nudity and showing a young couple walking into a rural lake. For the next hour we follow the usual teen camping horror formula with a gay scene added in for good measure. It's very slow and the dialogue isn't good at all, but I did like the Cronenberg-style climax.
