Kanthaswamy (2009)
6/10
Interesting superhero movie ruined by a disastrous editing... Still watchable for its action scenes and plenty of interesting moments.

Movie: Kanthaswamy (U)

Rating: 3/5

I called this film a regular Vikram fare because of two reasons - First being the fact that every Vikram film deals with social issues, and the second, it's entertaining like all his films. This film just adds to the greatness of Vikram sir, whose previous entertainers like Anniyan have won over the people.

It's really amazing to see Vikram sir as a superhero. His getup as the superhero is really fantastic. His performance is the best. Prabhu's role is like a regular officer, but even he does well. Susi Ganeshan arrives in a small but fine role.

The best part of the film which I felt was realistic approach. This happens even in case of fight scenes. If you see superhero style flying action, you have the justification in the following scene. The action scenes are really amazing and the film hardly has any disturbing scenes at all.

However, the thing I didn't like was the vulgarity by the heroine Shriya, though she tries to look glamorous. The editing is not at all crisp as the film's runtime goes beyond three hours and that's pretty patience testing. The comedy track looked forced and it would have better been chopped off. The music was fine. It means the editing of the film stands been Kanthaswamy and a huge victory.

But overall, it's not a disappointment, for you get to see a new kind of a superhero. On the whole, if you are a fan of Vikram as well as realistic social superhero films, watch Kanthaswamy. It's not very perfect but then who in this world is able to give a 100% always?
