Warning: Spoilers
Do you enjoy the Planet Earth documentary, but wish the piece's narration was a bit more colorful, perhaps livened up by one of the western world's leading comedians? Do you wish it perhaps had vivid action sequences that left you as bewildered and amazed as Transformers 3? Then Adventures of the Penguin is for you! David Attenborough directs this stunning piece of nature documentary spanning across the beaches of South Georgia (though sometimes you might think it's Hawaii!). The real standout of this film, though, is Tim Allen, in what might be his greatest role yet. Allen narrates from the first person perspective of a young king penguin named Rex. Throughout the film I found myself forgetting that it was a person telling me about penguin life, it was such a convincing portrayal of penguin thought! And it's not just a boring nature movie. It's full of intrigue, romance, heartbreak and joy. My favorite scene may be Allen's Rex saving his young penguin son from an attacking bird. Talk about suspense! If you only watch one penguin focused, celebrity narrated documentary/comedy this year, make it Adventures of the Penguin King!!!!
