I discovered Algeria through this movie
5 May 2014
Plot: Because his 60 years old father is sick and is about to lose his house in Algeria, Fahrdi must travel for the 1st time in his life to Algeria, the country where his parents were born. He speaks few Arab and doesn't know much about them or about their history. Fahrid considers himself as a Frenchman and discovers an entire new world just across the Mediterranean Sea thanks to his cousin. Unfortunately, his cousin steals his passport from him and eventually leaves the country with it. Fahrid must then deal with the local and french bureaucracy while his cousin starts behaving badly in France.

My comment: the story of the movie itself isn't what's interesting in it. The scenery is great, actors are authentic. We don't "see" Algeria, we can smell it, feel it and even the sun can burn your skin through the screen. I never went to Algeria, and I don't have anything to do with this country. I never planned to go there and I never thought I'd say this one day: this movie made me love the country. I want to add "visit Algeria" in my "to do list".

Fahrid's statement at the end clearly explains what the movie is dealing with. He says "I still don't know if my experience is good or bad. but I'm not the same guy anymore".

Great movie, congratulations
