I miss Battlestar Galactica

Warning: Spoilers
Story with a lot of potential, but the lazy writing that is primarily focusing on the pubescent drama/love issues of good looking people instead of the infinite possibilities of encountering an alien race, is not drawing me into the story, but making me lose interest.

I am not against the love angle from a human interest perspective, but the only difference with an alien race is organ redundancy, a higher uptake of oxygen through the skin and fluorescent tattoos? Seriously? Their mating rituals are exactly the same as ours, including the equipment? So much so, that we can interbreed? The chances of the evolutionary process creating such likeness anywhere else in the galaxy are pretty slim if not effectively zero. Not even on earth within the same ecosystem is there a species humans can breed with. But, I mustn't complain too much, since one of my favorite shows (Star Trek), basically did the same, though with an explanation in the Next Generation series. So let's overlook that one. What I cannot overlook is that the first thing the US army does when people who look exactly like humans approach them with their hands held up, is shoot to kill. What is the message here?

Last but not least, some trade mark CW stuff. The actors are not bad, but I really wonder about the average intelligence of 25 year old and older 'high school' students. Smallville and Vampire diaries anyone? At least CW is consistently targeting the same marketing demographic every time. Those who are attracted to good looking 25 to 30 year olds who still attend high school. Making simple stuff unnecessarily complex (high school drama) and complex stuff stupidly simple (racism, communication with aliens, technology integration, etc.).

Wouldn't it be interesting if these are humans, abducted centuries ago, genetically engineered and now seeded to prepare the route for the real invasion? I will give it a chance, but if it doesn't improve soon, lights out.
