Although the storyline of 'De behandeling' is layered and quite complicated, the director succeeds in holding the viewer's attention. The actors play their roles very realistic and with a lot of emotions. The atmosphere of the movie is dark and grimy with controversial subjects and although the content is never too explicit, it don't takes long to arose a sense of horror.
Horror is also to be found in the appearance of the villain. Nicknamed 'De Trol' (The Troll), the movie has a villain that can meet up with frightful Hollywood Villains like 'Se7en' 's John Doe. Overall, I can recommend 'De behandeling' to whom likes dark, almost horror-like crime thrillers. Just do not expect it to be an easy going popcorn movie.
