Review of Star Trek

Star Trek (1966–1969)
9/10
On this the franchise was built.

It's hard to write a review about a legend especially if when the program is first created one never had the idea it would become a legend. But when Star Trek finished its three year run and went blissfully into syndication no one thought it would become a franchise. Especially now that we have a whole new generation of Kirks and Spocks etc. on the big screen.

But as the cult status of the original series grew and it came to the big screen new special effects techniques were developed and it was possible to do so much more. And with the parameters established by the original series it was possible to develop a whole community galaxy in both Star Trek, The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine.

For that reason I've always liked both of those succeeding series better than the original Star Trek. But those two could not have been possible without the trailblazing done by the original.

William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei, and Walter Koenig became iconic figures with their roles. Romulans, Klingons, and Vulcans became part of the next generation as humans faced challenges in war with some and the more difficult challenge of peace.

Gene Roddenberry's vision still inspires even the next generation.
