Review of Pond Life

Pond Life (2012)
7/10
Laughs and tears in six minutes

Warning: Spoilers
This short 'Doctor Who' special serves to give us a glimpse of what happens between with end of the sixth series and the beginning of the seventh. The Doctor calls the Ponds to let them know what he is up to then on day pops in and wakes them up to tell them he needs their help only to realise he came to soon; he then tells them not to worry all is fine; we know it won't be as we see a couple of flashes of upcoming adventures. The next morning Rory has a shock when he discovers an Ood sitting in the loo! The Doctor says he wonders where it had got to and promises to pick it up. For the next couple of months Amy and Rory have their own Ood servant until the Doctor finally collects it. Things then get rather sad; we don't hear what is said but it is clear that Amy and Rory are splitting up; as the short comes to an end we hear Amy saying that they really need the Doctor's help.

Given that it is only six minutes long there is a lot packed into this mini-episode; the opening with the Doctor escaping from the Sontarans by leaping onto a surfboard was silly but amusing. The later parts were better; the 'Ood on the loo' scene was particularly funny; mostly because of how blasé Amy was about it. The ending where the Ponds split up was sad and left me looking forward to the new series so we can learn why they split and whether or not their split will be permanent.
