Review of Conviction

Conviction (II) (2010)
6/10
Could have been a lot better

Warning: Spoilers
I knew the story, had seen it on the news shows and Oprah. But with the ratings post on IMDb (my most trusted source for reviews), I couldn't pass up the opportunity to see a deeper look at this story of a failed justice system and sibling loyalty as portrayed by Sam Rockwell and Hilary Swank. Unfortunately the film never reaches the level of talent its actors provide. Simply put, there wasn't enough character development that would provide the basis for me to care about these people and the ghastly circumstances that began unfolding in their lives once Watters was arrested and charged. Why was this man singled out and what were the motivations that led the police to "frame" him for murder. The only touching and real scenes for me were the ones toward the end of the film with the daughter Mandy and her revelation that she had been lied to by her mother for so many years.Just left me wanting to know more details and more of the "true" story.
