The Flash (1990–1991)

A fun series...

The sad thing is, this series had a lot of potential, but was mishandled in many ways.

Okay, the Flash isn't Superman or Batman. He's a second-tier hero. And oddly enough, the network went with the Barry Allen Flash, even though in the comics, Allen was pushing up the metaphorical daisies at that point. (To paraphrase Monty Python, "He got better!")

This series only got the green light because of the success of Tim Burton's Batman movie. In terms of storytelling and style, it was very faithful to the genre, and it looked really good. Schipp was good in the role, treating the material seriously when a lot of actors wouldn't have treated it like a farce.

For the hardcore fanboys, they didn't dip into the Flash's "Rogue's Gallery" of adversaries until late in the series, by which point preemption by Gulf War coverage had wrecked the show's ability to build a fanbase.

A lot better than the tiresome show like the re-imagined BSG which dragged on for years after anyone stopped caring.
