Review of Raavan

Raavan (2010)
5/10
Loss Leader

Two Films namely-"Kites" and "Raavan" together, have lost 2billion ($40mil.) Rupees,at the Box office. Both, have silly stories with bad fillers. What exactly is the point in "Raavan"? May I ask? Except the cinematography and few "Native" scenes the whole movie is redundant. It's difficult to fathom that a director capable of a movie like "Guru" would come with this pointless piece of perversion. Abishek Bachchan, who had been molded by Mani Ratnam, should be thankful to him for having faith in his acting but this movie is a step back for him. As far as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-expectation of her acting is limited and this vehicle does nothing to her image. The audience in India is sophisticated-including the front bencher's-and if Mani Ratnam, thinks, he is entertaining the masses with crude histrionics, somber dialog, disjointed clips of forest and swamps to a chest thumping drum beats of A.R. Rahman...he is clearly mistaken.
