Powerful story about a cop who got his family murdered out to even the scores while one of his team member Ma Kwun (Donny Yen) upholds the law. The story is about HK police squad headed by Det. Chan Kwok Chung (Simon Yam) against the HK triad boss Wong Po (Sammo Hung). Both sides have a heavy. One played by Donny Yen, and other by Jing Wu.
All out battle breaks out between the triad and the police force with heavy casualties on both sides culminating to the show down between Donny Yen and Jing Wu, and Donny Yen and Sammo Hung.
One of the best police vs triad story to come out, SPL has all the right talents in the right places with gritty story line and brutal action. Now recognized as one of the classic, this movie sets the bar for other movies of this genre to follow.
By watching this movie, and the Infernal Affairs, you'll better understand where other more recent HK action movies gets their influences from.
