This is good light-hearted entertainment, a sort of South-African precursor to the Canadian series "Juste pour Rire - Les Gags". I remember seeing it many years ago on TV here in France under the title "Dieu me Savonne" and it has since fallen into oblivion and is unknown on DVD both in Europe and the USA. Luckily I found it available on a South African DVD site and promptly ordered both it and its sequel, Funny People II, dating from 1983. Some of the sketches are better than others, and obviously depending on one's humour one will prefer some sketches over others. Some, like the automatic doors are a little overlong for my liking. But I did enjoy the cake factory and the customer served with a tiny steak whilst his neighbour had a whole plateful of meat. The talking mailbox is also a sketch that sticks in your mind long after the film has finished. The "thirsty daffodil" annoying the restaurant customer is priceless. Like in "Juste pour Rire", half the fun comes from the look on the victims's faces confronted with situations they just cannot believe are happening !
