Transgendered m-to-w and her suitor; nice look at Miami
7 June 2006
I see that the other comments are raising this level to the pantheon, but, since the other comments are both from Miami, and the film is set in Miami, I would assume that these are friends of the director or the actors. In reality, it's a pretty good film, perhaps a thesis film for a film school student. It involves a transgendered man-to-woman and her suitor, a kid who mostly hangs out on the streets of Miami. His friends beat up the trannie, but he falls in love with her and courts her, until s/he falls for him. Both roles are well-played, although the trannie is rather clichéd (does every drag queen have to be tough on the outside, hard as nails on the inside?), but her suitor is charming and handsome and lovable, and believable. It's a stunt that's hard to pull off, but the guy (Junior Dominguez) does it. I especially liked the back-alley Miami portrayed in the film. I was trying to guess where it took place--I thought maybe Memphis. It's interesting to see Miami without the glittery facade.
