Review of The Reception

The Reception (2005)
10/10
Outstanding Achievement

Warning: Spoilers
It's a rare event indeed when I believe a movie rates 10 stars out of 10. Before I buy a movie I usually look it up on the IMDb if I've never heard of it. This is one time I didn't. If I would have, I wouldn't have gotten it, simply because of the $5,000 price tag (it's cost to make). To say that I was stunned by the movie would be an understatement. There was a plot, there were some very good twists, the dialog and its delivery was top rate. Any top actor or writer would have been proud of their work if they had been the ones to write or perform either. I checked the "contains spoiler" box because you really need to have an open mind with this film. It covers race, alcoholism, homosexuality, AIDS, hate, pride, and defeat, and although it covers these elements in an extreme manner, there are no clichés, nor does the film even attempt to become a politically correct piece trying to pound a message into our heads. It's a beautifully written and well delivered movie. I'm sure we'll be hearing again from whomever the person is that wrote it.
