Review of King Kong

King Kong (2005)
7/10
They did it because they could
15 December 2005
The unfolding of Kong was done beautifully all the way up to the island. I was totally captivated at that point. At the island the script took a back place to the world of special effects, which while entertaining at first soon became boring because of its redundancy. At lease a half hour of this could have been cut without harming, and would most likely in fact enhance the movie. In the final part of the movie where it would have been nice to see what happened to the relationships between the characters upon returning home seemed truncated, probably because the movie was getting too long and they had to get in some more redundant special effects. Could have been a great movie, and as it is it will undoubtedly appeal to a younger techie audience and be very successful. But, it is likely that it will leave even this audience empty after better special effects are release in future movies. I would guess that they did all the digital magic because they could, not because it lent anything to the movie.
