5/10
Not terrible, but it is one of Bergman's lesser films.

Warning: Spoilers
The individual actors do fine in their roles; Boyer, Bergman, Laughton, and especially Calhern. But added up and taken as a whole, the movie lacks any substance.

The film was too thin on the revenge aspect between Ravic and Haake and the love story is a typical "boy meets girl, boy doesn't want to fall for the girl, but in the end, it's too late when he does."

It had a lot of promise, the dialog isn't as dated as some period films, and the cinematography is well done (Ingrid does look luminous, but she did look great in most of her films). However the thin plot and so-so direction killed it. 5/10

If you want to see a better Bergman/Boyer film, then watch 'Gaslight'.
