I'm not 100% sure they knew what they were doing when they were making this film, but what they came up with is an offbeat, entertaining mess. Lauren Ambrose is cute and fun in her role(s); her performance practically makes the movie. The rest of the cast, comprised mostly of unknowns, is also likable and has conviction (though Busch's transvestite cop is somewhat annoying). If you're looking for a mindless and insubstantial film that won't insult your intelligence, "Psycho Beach Party" should fill the bill. (**1/2)
