Great performances all around but a poor climax
25 April 2003
So far I haven't seen a Sydney Poitier movie that was boring and this one is no exception. Maybe the most charismatic actor of our time always finds a new way to keep me wondering what he'll do next. "The heat of the night" deals with a murder case, but it's the racial issues that play a greater role, showing how intolerant and how full of prejudice people can be. But here lies the problem; the movie relies too much on the racial conflicts and doesn't pay that much attention to the mystery of the murder. The outcome is as thrilling and satisfying as a Matlock case and the only thing that kept the movie together was the acting. A bit outdated, but still enjoyable. 7/10
