The Legend of Lake Hollow is the first feature from director Chris Hollo. If you’re into country music, his name may be familiar to you as the official photographer for The Grand Ole Opry, a position he’s held since 2000. However, that has little in common with this film which opens with Mark and Carson arriving at the lakeside cabin they’ve rented. They’re barely in the door when they start checking out pictures from the property’s trail cams, and see something with a wicked set of claws.
Before they can act on that, Mark’s brother Dan arrives with his fiancé Shay and her friend Laurie. It’s not long before they’re hearing strange noises from the woods and finding more odd pictures captured by the trail cams.

Universal Pictures has been quietly putting together a new "Jurassic World" movie in the background for several months. Even though that movie is now racing towards a release date next summer, it is still in need of a director. Despite reports last week that suggested David Leitch was in talks to helm the next dino blockbuster, those talks have fallen through. The search is now on for someone to fill those shoes, and time is of the essence.
According to Deadline, Leitch and Universal had a mutual parting of ways as they had different visions for the film. Given how little we know about the new entry in the franchise, it's tough to speculate as to what those differences might be. The outlet notes that this has instantly become one of the biggest directing jobs available in Hollywood right now. With a July 2025 release date set, a director will need...

Some gigantic news today for lovers of dinosaur-centric cinema, as one of the original creatives behind "Jurassic Park" is returning to the fold more than 30 years later. The "Jurassic World" trilogy may have ended in 2022 with the release of "Jurassic World Dominion," but Universal Pictures is evidently trying to keep the series alive with a new movie -- one that might be coming our way sooner rather than later. While details are scarce for the time being, it has come to light that none other than David Koepp is writing a new movie in the franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Koepp is not only writing a new "Jurassic" movie, but it is pretty far along in the development process. So much so that a 2025 release date is said to be possible, which would be downright remarkable given that this is the first thing we've officially heard about the film.

Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror film "The Shining," based on the popular book by Stephen King, saw struggling author Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) hired to be the caretaker of a remote, mountainside resort called the Overlook Hotel. During the winter months, snow prevents visitors from coming and going, and someone merely has to keep the furnaces burning. Jack is told that one of the hotel's previous caretakers, Mr. Grady, was infected by a severe case of cabin fever and slaughtered his family. Jack brushes off the violence as a mere horror story, and takes the job nonetheless.
While there, Jack and his family learn that the Overlook is deeply, deeply haunted. The hotel is almost a massive, unconscious mind, which manifests ghosts as a way to flex its memories. In one of the film's more terrifying scenes -- and it has many -- the young Danny (Danny Lloyd) is idly riding...

For 12 seasons, "Murder, She Wrote" was the definitive cozy murder mystery show. Set in the small and charming yet dead-body-filled fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine, the show wormed its way into the hearts of procedural fans everywhere with its familiar structure and unlikely hero -- middle-aged mystery writer Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury). While the actor behind the beloved amateur sleuth passed away in 2022, "Murder, She Wrote" lives on, both in the form of much-watched reruns and in an upcoming movie adaptation.
Little is known about the new version of "Murder, She Wrote" at this point, but screenwriters Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo have said that the story will relate back to Cabot Cove and Jessica in some capacity. When it comes to potential cameos from old cast members, the pool is unfortunately limited, as several of the series' lead actors have passed away in the decades since the show ended.

With six films, TV shows, iconic Universal Studios rides, massive merchandise tie-ins, and more, it’s safe to say Jurassic Park has established itself as one of the cornerstones of popular culture in the 21st century, and The Lego Group has capitalized on its success. At this year’s Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, the team behind Vampire: The Masquerade showed up in force to debut several projects, including the announcement of the future of Bloodlines II. The game is now coming in 2024, courtesy of new developer The Chinese Room.
This may seem like a massive departure if you’re familiar with The Chinese Room’s previous work, which includes Dear Esther, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, and the forthcoming Still Wakes the Deep. Bloodlines II is supposedly a choice-based action RPG, while Tcr’s creative output is mostly narrative adventure games.
They do have a plan here, however. At Pax, I was ushered into an inordinately creepy meeting room in the official Vampire: The Masquerade booth to hear all about it.

Although "The Corbomite Maneuver" was the tenth "Star Trek" episode to air on television, it was actually the first produced after the pilot episode, "Where No Man Has Gone Before." As all good Trekkies know, the ideal order in which to watch "Star Trek" is its production order. Broadcast order is for chumps and poseurs.
In "The Corbomite Maneuver," the U.S.S. Enterprise is approached by a massive and mysterious alien spaceship, perfectly spherical and possessed of immense destructive power. The ship is called the Fesarius, and Captain Kirk (William Shatner) can only communicate with the Fesarius' captain, Balok (voiced by Ted Cassidy), via audio. Balok declares that he very much intends to destroy the Enterprise using his superior weapons. Thinking quickly, Kirk bluffs; he says that the Enterprise is equipped with an imaginary substance called Corbomite that would react negatively to a weapons attack and destroy both ships.

With any new entry into a well-trod subgenre, it's always challenging to make the material feel a little fresher and more unique compared to what's come before. A number of thrillers have had hapless families discover the father/husband had a secret, dark past, making husbands secret murderers, reformed former criminals ("A History of Violence"), cheaters, liars with other families ("Frequent Flyer") or even secretive agents or heroes (humorously subverted in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith"). It's a tried-and-true background for a thriller, but the setup always presents a unique challenge: how could this very specific trope be pivoted to stand out in a crowded field?
"The Last Thing He Told Me," the new Apple TV+ based on Laura Dave's 2021 bestselling mystery thriller, follows a family torn apart when Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) disappears following a case of financial fraud at his place of employment. This leaves wife Hannah (Jennifer Garner...
