Dame Julie Walters has been forced to leave the cast of the forthcoming Channel 4 drama Truelove, due to ill health.
The veteran star of stage and screen, 73, was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer in 2018.
In 2020, she gave an interview in which she revealed that she had got the all-clear and said that she felt like a “different person” after having cancer.
Walters’ role as Phil in the drama Truelove was set to be her return to TV after a seven-year hiatus (she was last seen in the acclaimed 2016 Channel 4 drama National Treasure).
Walters will be replaced on the show by Lindsay Duncan, who now stars opposite The Wire’s Clarke Peters.
The pair play former teenage sweethearts who reunite at a friend’s funeral after many years, and make a pact to help each other experience dignified deaths, rather than slow declines.

The world of Stranger Things is expanding — to London’s West End.
A play based on the Netflix hit is set to make its debut at London’s Phoenix Theatre late in the year. It’s called Stranger Things: The First Shadow and written by Kate Trefry, a writer and co-executive producer on the series, from an original story by Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer, Jack Thorne (Enola Holmes) and Trefry.
Emmy, Tony and BAFTA winner Stephen Daldry (The Crown, Billy Elliot) will direct, with co-direction by Justin Martin. Netflix, making its first foray into live theater, and Sonia Friedman Productions are mounting the play, with series executive producer Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps serving as associate producer. The formal announcement comes a day after a cryptic teaser released on social media Tuesday. No casting has been announced yet.

Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe was officially ousted from the organization this month, and for John Oliver, it’s certainly not hard to bid farewell to “alt-right Borat.”
Facing allegations of mistreating his employees and misusing company funds funds — to the point that Project Veritas is at risk of losing its non-profit classification — O’Keefe resigned on Feb. 20, posting a 45-minute resignation video online (something that Oliver had a good laugh at based on the length of it alone).
Still, while the “Last Week Tonight” host dubbed O’Keefe “basically alt-right Borat,” Oliver pointed out that conservative hosts and pundits are sticking with O’Keefe, and expressing their outrage over his ouster. That said, when Steve Bannon said “James O’Keefe is a national treasure, full stop,” Oliver steadfastly disagreed.

We've known for a few years that there are dueling Fred Astaire films in development — one starring Tom Holland playing the legendary entertainer, the other featuring Jamie Bell as Astaire and Margaret Qualley as Ginger Rogers. Both are seeing some new moves today, with The Hollywood Reporter bringing word that the Holland film now has Paddington's Paul King as director and Lee Hall re-writing the script.
The untitled, Holland-starring film has Lee Hall also now on board as writer. It'll focus on Astaire and his sister, Adele Astaire. The two were inseparable for more than 20 years, moving out of a simple Midwestern vaudeville act in the early part of the 20th Century to Broadway and London’s West end in the 1920s. Adele Astaire was initially the face of the act but eventually, Fred Astaire’s consummate stage skills eclipsed hers. The duo parted in 1932 when his sister married, which was a blow to Fred,...

Today in news you surely didn't see coming, "Paddington" film series director Paul King will be taking the helm on Sony Pictures' untitled Fred Astaire drama — the one starring our very own friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Tom Holland.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, King has signed on to direct the project, which Holland revealed he was working on in 2021. Amy Pascal, Rachael O'Conner, Ben Holden, and Josh Hyams will be producing. The outlet also reports that the exact plot of the upcoming film is being kept under wraps.
One thing we do know, however, is that the movie will center on the relationship between Astaire and his sister, Adele. For more than 20 years, the siblings were thick as thieves and worked the vaudeville scene from the Midwest to Broadway and London's West End by the end of the roaring '20s. They split as a performing duo in 1932 after Adele got married.

Robert Pattinson faced one of his deepest fears by dancing on camera in a commercial for Dior’s Homme fragrance. But that couldn’t prevent “The Batman” star from suffering “one of the biggest panic attacks of my life” when he stepped onto the dance floor at a party a few weeks after he shot the ad.
“I thought I’d broken my curse when I did that scene,” Pattinson told Es magazine in a recent cover story. “But then I went to a party a few weeks later — thinking I’m like Billy Elliot — and as soon as I took one step on to the dance floor had one of the biggest panic attacks of my life.”
Pattinson continued, “You know when you think you’re that guy and then suddenly, you’re just brutally humbled. Yeah, it felt like my dad had just caught me joyriding a car.

Cinematographer Brian Tufano, who shot British classics like "Trainspotting" and "Billy Elliot," has died at the age of 83. The news was announced by Jon Wardle, director of the UK's National Film and Television School, via his Twitter account, and confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Tufano had been semi-retired for the past 10 years, but he had an illustrious career that spanned decades and left his imprint on cinema forever. He was awarded with a special BAFTA in 2001 for his contributions to television craft, honoring the work he did with directors like Ken Russell, Stephen Frears, and Alan Parker.
Despite doing so much great work on television, Tufano became best known worldwide for his collaborations with director Danny Boyle, shooting four films together including Boyle's breakout hit "Trainspotting." The talented director of photography was especially skilled at filming movement, with his camera acting almost like a distinct character all of its own.

An adaptation of a stage musical about a studious schoolgirl has topped Black Panther: Wakanda Forever from the top of the U.K. box office.
Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical took 5 million in its opening weekend for Sony Pictures, more than half the overall box office. From director Matthew Warchus and based on his own hugely successful Royal Shakespeare Company production (which itself was based on Dahl’s beloved children’s book), the film earned an estimated 50 percent more than the Blank Panther sequel, five times that of fellow new opener Strange World. At current exchange rates, it is 60 percent ahead of The Greatest Showman, which also opened during the holiday corridor.

Emma Thompson is cracking down on the “rebels” at her elementary school.
As the iconically corrupt Miss Trunchbull, Oscar winner Thompson is unrecognizable for the Netflix film “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical,” in select theaters December 9 from and streaming December 25.
Sony Pictures UK/TriStar Pictures will release the film across the U.K. and Ireland exclusively in cinemas on November 25.
Roald Dahl’s beloved novel is getting another big-screen treatment, this time as a rock musical based on the Tony- and Olivier-winning production directed by Matthew Warchus. Thompson stars as headmaster Trunchbull, who is set on extinguishing independent thought among her elementary school students, including the brilliant and uniquely gifted Matilda, played by “Darklands” star Alisha Weir. Matilda’s only role model, Miss Honey (Lashana Lynch), encourages Matilda to use her vivid imagination and maintain her curiosity, despite Trunchbull’s demands to get rid of all the “rebels” at Crunchem Hall.
