Content Warning is the latest indie game to take over the gaming world, with fans flocking to the co-op title to film their friends doing all manner of weird and horrifying things (in-game!). Landfall Games has always been a popular indie developer, who regularly releases their games every year on April Fools, but this year was different.
With Content Warning far exceeding their wildest expectations, the developer was good enough to take some time and talk to us about the game’s future, their hopes going forward, and what else they have going on in the background.
[Some answers have been edited for clarity and length]
Firstly, thanks so much for taking the time to speak to us! Especially in a time that is no doubt incredibly busy for all of you. For the readers out there unaware, would you be so kind as to explain who you are and what Landfall Games do/have done?

The picturesque animation of Jacob and Wilhelm seeing their little sister play with dolls marks the beginning of a classic folktale based on siblings. In this variation, Hansel and Gretel are students at a school, and the witch doesn’t want to eat them and turns out to be a good woman. Nonetheless, she still offers them her confections, so that should be enough information for you before I jump in to discuss the third episode of The Grimm Variations.
Spoiler Alert
How do Hansel and Gretel come across the witch?
Hansel and Gretel live and study in a private school run by a couple whom the kids address as Papa and Mama. The couple seems to take good care of the kids while also instilling manners and discipline in them at the same time. The kids have a set routine, which includes waking up, going to the cafeteria for breakfast,...

You know how the petrichor soothes the mind and soul after a dry and hot summer day? Well, this is how the new Netflix anthology series The Grimm Variations introduces itself in the first episode, titled Cinderella. Based on the classic folktales of the Brothers Grimm, this series takes the innocence out of the folktales and replaces it with dark, depressing outcomes. Disney won’t be very happy now, I assume. The brothers Wilhelm and Jacob narrate the tales to their little sister Charlotte as she eagerly waits for the twists and turns that are about to come.
Spoilers Ahead
How Do The Stepsisters Meet?
Cinderella’s abusive stepsisters are a pivotal part of the folktale. The tables have now turned, and Cinderella is the daughter of a viscount. Viscount Otawara proposes marriage to Miss Tsuruko, who has two daughters from her last marriage. Makiko and Sawako come to their...

Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
For the first time in thirty texts, an Amityville film has adopted an anthology format. Amityville Vampire (2021), written by Carlos Perez and Tim Vigil (who also directs) divides its 90-minute narrative into three chunks to tell two stories, a wrap-around, and a few stingers. The film isn’t wholly successful due to a variety of issues, but the multiplicity of shorter narratives circumvents the typical “padded” feel of some of the “franchise”s Dtv entries.
Former DJ and (somewhat?) reformed ladies’ man Johnny The Gent (Anthony DeArce) plans to propose to his girlfriend Fran (Miranda Melhado). He takes her on what she anticipates will be a romantic camping trip and, on the car ride, tells her two separate stories about the area...

Hat. Whip. Nazis. Trains. CG de-aging. It’s interesting what it takes to bring Indiana Jones back to the ‘40s. It’s even more interesting what filmmaking language “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” employs to make us feel embedded in the era’s cinema of action and adventure: It wouldn’t be complete without a goon falling into the abyss to the accompaniment of the Wilhelm scream.
When audiences hear the Wilhelm scream in “Dial of Destiny,” it’s sound designer Gary Rydstrom doing a little time travel of his own: Back to the ‘70s and the creative exuberance of the Movie Brats, and even further still to the Westerns and serials that made heroes seem larger than life. The pained cry, sometimes attributed to actor/singer Sheb Wooley, almost has the quality of a bullet ricochet: You hear it and feel something at the intersection of cartoon comedy,...

We live in interesting times. At the movie theater right now, on one screen, you can see Michael Keaton beating up bad guys while in the Batman suit. On another, you can watch Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones beating up Nazis. Weirdly, both are not doing great at the box office. If you went this past weekend to check out Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny, you will know the film was littered with easter eggs and references. What did we uncover in this globetrotting adventure this time??
Warning!!!! There will be spoilers for Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny!
Wilhelm Scream
As with every Indiana Jones film, the Wilhelm Scream makes an appearance. Indy and Basil Shaw are trying to escape from the train full of Nazis, they climb onto the roof. Here they have some back-and-forth with a few soldiers. Indy pulls...

It’s never a great sign when the funniest part of your romantic comedy involves the female lead’s flawless boyfriend being killed by a drunk driver in the opening scene, but in fairness to James C. Strouse’s absurd “Love Again,” this unclassifiable whatsit isn’t a traditional rom-com so much as a grief drama with a severe identity disorder.
Based on a German film called “SMS für Dich” — which sadly doesn’t mean what it sounds like — Strouse’s moribund yet almost intoxicatingly strange new movie is more or less exactly what you would expect to happen if the guy behind depressive indies like “Lonesome Jim” and “Grace Is Gone” decided to make a poppy date flick that adhered to the rhythms and logic of a Lindsay Lohan vehicle from 2006.
Yes, most of the laugh lines in “Love Again” are stale enough that even just hearing them kind of hurts your teeth,...

Writer and director Quentin Tarantino is an avid film fan who famously pays homage to his favorite genre films in his own work, but for "Inglourious Basterds," he drew from his own filmography as well.
While "Basterds" is clearly inspired by numerous war films and Nazi exploitation movies like "Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS," Tarantino also loosely pulled from several of his previous films. In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Tarantino shared that he felt like "Inglourious Basterds" shared traits with his earlier films "True Romance," "Reservoir Dogs," and "Pulp Fiction." (Tarantino wrote the screenplay for "True Romance," which was directed by Tony Scott.) It's not surprising or unusual for a creative to draw from their earlier work, and Tarantino took some of the lessons learned from his past to make "Inglourious Basterds" the best it could be.
The director's sixth film is a tone-shifting historical drama that balances...

From his work as an explorer and a filmmaker — and now with a new multimedia experience Pressure: James Cameron into the Abyss that opened Monday at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County — Cameron aims to share a vital message that we need to protect the planet’s oceans. “We need to become guardians for the ocean, warriors for the ocean — all of us in our society,” he said.
Described by museum president Lori Bettison-Varga as a “celebration of exploration,” the new exhibit offers a fascinating look behind Cameron’s 2012 record-breaking, solo dive to Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench — the deepest place on the planet — and...

Young Royals season two was full of some marvelous moments.
This season, we found our main characters in very dark places and others in utter confusion.
Some decisions that they made were truly insane.
Below, we have compiled some of those moments we considered the best.
From Sara's discovery about her body to Wilhelm going off script when giving That speech, we were not deprived of good stuff.
13. Wilhelm pulled a gun on August.
The hatred between Wilhelm and August is one of the biggest falling out between friends.
Wilhelm blames August for leaking that video and ensuring he found a way to evade justice while August wants Wilhelm's throne.
Wilhelm had been honing his gun handling skills, and we thought if there were someone who would be standing at the end of the barrel, it would be Marcus.
As Wilhelm had a gun to August's face, it looked like...

On September 8, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II of England passed away.
She had led an exemplary life of service to her country and her people.
With her passing came a renewed interest in the British monarchy and monarchies in general. The discourse surrounding them and their validity -- or even morality -- in the modern world became rejuvenated.
Viewers of Netflix's The Crown -- a dramatic take on the British monarchy -- are well aware of her struggle to rise to the throne at such a young age.
When this conversation is had, it mainly focuses on the effect monarchies have on their subjects. In a majorly democratic world, they are seen as an outdated method of governance that empowers a few people with no business wielding that power.
It can be argued that it doesn't track to have someone be automatically considered your superior by the simple fact that they...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from Season 2 of “Young Royals,” now streaming on Netflix.
Well, that is certainly one way to get the attention of the entire country of Sweden.
In the Season 2 finale of Netflix’s global sensation “Young Royals,” Sweden’s teenaged Crown Prince Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding) used a nationally broadcasted speech at his school Hillerska’s 120th anniversary jubilee to confess to his classmates, his family and his country that he’d lied about not being in the illegally distributed sex tape with Simon (Omar Rudberg). The very public moment of candor and bravery came after a season of regret over being forced to deny being in the video by his mother, the Queen Kristina of Sweden (Pernilla August) — a decision that drove a wedge between Wilhelm and Simon.
For this series-defining moment, “Young Royals” co-creator and head writer Lisa Ambjörn told Variety it was important...
