2023 was a rough year for superhero movies. Both Marvel Studios and Warner Bros.' Dceu struggled to deliver movies which resonated with fans and filmgoers, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods failed to take flight when it opened last March.
Reviews were split rather than outright negative, but the movie still only grossed $134 million worldwide. It came as a shock after the success of 2019's Shazam!, and the character's future is now uncertain with DC Studios set to reboot the Dcu beginning with 2025's Superman.
We were recently fortunate enough to speak with Billy Batson actor Asher Angel about his role in the edge-of-your-seat thriller, Lazareth. We'll bring you the full conversation with him, and co-star Ashley Judd, soon.
In the meantime, we have an excerpt from our conversation in which Angel addresses the Shazam! sequel's struggles, his interest in reprising the role, what was originally planned for the franchise,...

Simon Murray, a popular and respected figure in the international TV business, has died aged 64.
Murray’s career spanned more than three decades in the advertising, publishing, and TV industries. A plethora of friends and industry colleagues have paid their respects since Murray died, April 6.
A career in media started at Zenith/Saatchi & Saatchi in the late 1980s, which saw Murray working on Zenith’s influential advertising forecasts, which were an industry benchmark for many years. He subsequently took managerial roles in the research departments of Kagan World Media and then Baskerville Communications, which published several newsletters focused on the global TV business. This was pre-internet and the TV reports and news publications were hard copy and subscription based.
When UK-listed Informa bought Baskerville, Murray moved into senior roles in the TV publications and research division. As well as managing large teams, he remained close to the international business,...

From that point through the early ‘70s, Hammer was one of the biggest names in horror… but then they found it hard to compete with the big horror films of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, and things gradually fell apart for them. After going through a rather predictable narrative structure of Vought International cover-ups, Gen V finally enters the political intrigue between humans and supers in the seventh episode titled Sick, and the excitement of series fans is surely going to be sky high. No sooner had the cerebral trip inside Cate’s mind ended in the previous episode, than the viewers were introduced to the Supes crisis from a new perspective, one that can easily reshape The Boys universe itself.
As a spin-off series, Gen V is closely interconnected with The Boys, a connection which was explored over the course of six episodes. But the most significant link between the two series has been established with the penultimate episode, with Indira Shetty’s backstory and Congresswoman Victoria Neuman’s possible role, which not only puts Vought in a critical juncture but also has the potential to destabilize the political system of The Boys universe.

This article contains spoilers for The Boys seasons 1-3 and Gen V season 1.
In the world of Prime Video’s The Boys, superheroes – or supes as they’re not-so-affectionately called – are a part of normal, everyday life. But these supes aren’t naturally born, they’re created by Vought Industry’s Compound V serum. Even though Vought does their best to control who does and does not become a supe, they don’t have control over how abilities manifest in people who take Compound V.
This leads to a wide variety of powers among the supes on the show, including those in the prestigious superhero group known as The Seven. With so many superpowered characters appearing in both large and small roles throughout the series, it can be hard to keep track of what exactly everyone can do. Here is a handy guide breaking down the powers of The Seven,...

This article contains spoilers for Gen V.
The Boys’ universe has become well-known for shocking deaths, bloody explosions, and corrupt superheroes. While the spinoff series Gen V has all of those things, and more, it also has an effortless queerness to it that The Boys has been lacking.
This isn’t to say that Queen Maeve’s (Dominique McElligott) arc in The Boys is terrible queer representation. It makes sense that she would have felt forced to hide who she was to keep her place in The Seven only for Vought to force her to come out to make themselves look progressive later on. Every part of Maeve’s identity is something for Vought to exploit, which The Boys does a great job of making abundantly clear.
But that’s what makes Gen V so refreshing in comparison. Queerness is just a normal part of life at God U and...

The Boys spinoff Gen V has done an incredible job thus far of expanding this supe-filled world while still maintaining a close connection to its predecessor. From character cameos to updates on current events, there are plenty of Easter eggs woven into Gen V’s story that give us hints into where The Boys could go in season 4.
Set between seasons 3 and 4 of The Boys, the youth of Gen V, as well as the entire world, have recently seen Homelander (Antony Starr) murder a civilian protester in cold blood. According to a brief news report, Homelander is actually on trial for this crime, though Vought appears to be fighting this with all they have. Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from the fourth and final season of “Sex Education.”
When “Sex Education” premiered in 2019, it followed a timid teenager with progressive ideals, trying to lead the student body of his repressive high school to sexual liberation. By 2023, when Netflix released the fourth and final season, all of that had changed.
Moordale Secondary School shuts down at the end of Season 3, so Season 4 takes place in a whole new world. Most of our characters end up at Cavendish College, which is Moordale’s complete opposite. It’s a “student-led” campus where the kids make all the decisions. The queer kids are the cool ones, and anyone trying to attain it-girl status with meanness and exclusivity ends up at the bottom of the social pyramid.
It’s paradise for Eric (Ncuti Gatwa), who instantly fits in with the popular crowd. He’s surrounded by other queer people for the first time,...

Time was that in a romantic comedy, the leads always ended up together.
That’s changed over time as audience and narrative priorities shift, and as television dove deeper into the rom-com game along with film, finding ways to unite, separate, and permute every pairing while filling out hours and hours of story. A lot of sitcoms spin that into classic TV romance; Ross and Rachel, Cory and Topanga, Jess and Nick. In recent years, the trend has skewed toward getting a couple together and keeping them together; Jake and Amy, David and Patrick, Janine and Gregory.
And then there is the Secret Third Thing, the rare and difficult move where a show pairs its lead character or characters off with someone who wasn’t the original plan. Sometimes there are outside factors (“Cheers” comes to mind), while other times it’s simply a more desirable story development.

The influx of superhero-oriented content in pop culture media, especially some of the mediocre ones, has definitely contributed to the ever-increasing popularity of Amazon Prime’s edgy, satirical take on superhero media, The Boys. While poking fun at other franchises by making tongue-in-cheek references, individual performances from the likes of Antony Starr, Karl Urban, and Jack Quaid, hilarious self-awareness, and abundant use of sensationalism with sex and gore might have worked wonders for the series’ reception, to make the franchise overstay its welcome, franchise biz was always needed. Perhaps it was the reason why the makers decided to release a gorier animated series called The Boys Presents: Diabolical last year. And for 2023, they have expanded the canvas further and come up with a live-action spin-off called Gen V. It’s kind of ironic how gradually the franchise is becoming the very thing it used to satirize.

Watch out! This article contains spoilers for "Sex Education" seasons three and four.
Going into "Sex Education" season four, I definitely thought Ruby (Mimi Keene) and Otis (Asa Butterfield) would end up together. Maeve (Emma Mackey) and Otis were always wrong for each other - his obsession with her always felt a little too close to idealization, and their chemistry was also never actually so great; it always felt to me like they were too different from each other to really work, and the scenes where they finally did get together just felt awkward to watch.
Meanwhile, Ruby and Otis's relationship was one of the sweetest parts of season three. He seemed to help her relax and open up, while she helped him get himself together and strive for greatness. They just seemed to work, and like many other fans, my heart broke when Otis rejected Ruby the minute Maeve became an option.

“Sex Education” is saying goodbye, with the fourth and final season dropping on Netflix last week.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Alyssa McClelland discussed her contributions to the swan-song season, and why she feels the series finale will satisfy the show’s fans.
“It’s the theme of showing people that an ending is Ok, and that actually an ending in a lot of ways will lead to a new beginning. It’s about sitting in the ending and feeling it, not running away from it. I remember being younger and thinking an ending was world-ending; any ending just felt a lot more intense. Then, as you get older, and you’ve had a few more endings in different forms, you get a bit more hardened to them,” McClelland said.

In its fourth and final season, Netflix’s Sex Education gets a makeover. Sex therapist sidekick Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) tries on a glittered kilt. “It girl” Ruby (Mimi Keene) dons a pride pin. And Cavendish College’s queen bee Abbi (Anthony Lexa) puts on a quilted coat while her partner Roman (Felix Mufti) sports a fresh set of acrylic nails.
With Moordale Secondary School closed for good, the sexually agitated students start at Cavendish College, a student-run, queer-centric, prismatic-colored school that promotes a gossip-free environment with yoga breaks and gender-neutral facilities.

Sex Education‘s protagonist, Otis Milburn has always been a red flag. Not only in terms of love but in friendship too. Let me explain. The first thing we need to acknowledge is the fact that Otis is played by child actor Asa Butterfield, who has been a megastar ever since his young self played Bruno in 2008 drama film, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. We don’t know if it is just a simple coincidence that Asa looks like an innocent fellow or if he was just the best guy to cast for the role of Otis (although he does a very convincing job). But this makes us especially inclined to like the character, no matter what he does. He’s always the good guy, you know? Plus, what teenager doesn’t make stupid mistakes? Wrong!
Yes, there are some good things about Otis, like his emotional intelligence, but...

“Sex Education” reached a climax with Maeve and Otis sleeping together after four long seasons and 32 episodes of back and forth between the two school sex clinic operators.
Season 4 doesn’t make it easy for Maeve and Otis to finally date and connect. Maeve has just gone to America for an English class taught at a prestigious university by Professor Thomas Molloy (Dan Levy). Otis and Moordale Secondary company have their own challenges to navigate because a majority of them transferred to Cavendish College after the shuttering of Moordale Secondary School at the end of last season. Intimacy coordinator David Thackerary, who has been involved with the show form Season 2 onwards, described the build-up to such an important scene involving one of the show’s most beloved “ships” in an interview with TheWrap.
“There was a lot of pressure for this moment because it’s this relationship. This is their moment.

Oftentimes, shows with multiple seasons get overburdened by the pressure of keeping up with their audiences while still upholding the integrity of their old characters. There’s a sense of being all over the place when they end up trying too hard to incorporate everything that’s a trending topic. This is especially common when it comes to portraying teenagers on television. All we need is a happy ending for our favorite characters, and that’s enough to make these shows work. Instead, they get mixed up in subplots that include time travel, fantasy, and a lot of random things that are unrelated to the main subject of the series. Sex Education season 4 does feel a little overwhelming with all the many topics it wants to touch upon in 8 small episodes, but at the end of the day, it delivers a clear message to anyone who needs to hear it.

At the end of Sex Education‘s penultimate episode, Maeve decided to go back to America to pursue her writing career. As a result of her tough decision, Otis claimed he’d feel like he was holding her back if the two of them stayed together. Since Maeve wasn’t sure whether she’d come back to England or not, they decided to call it quits because ultimately, the long distance would be too hard to navigate long-term.
They did, however, exchange “I love yous” and finally — finally! — had sex in Otis’ bedroom.

‘Sex Education’ Season 4 Episode 7 Recap & Ending, Explained: Did Maeve Make A Decision For Herself?
The last few episodes of Season 4 remind us why watching Sex Education itself feels like therapy. No matter your sexual identity, gender, or race, feelings are felt, and the show tries to reach out to as many people as possible. Episode 7 of Sex Education is dedicated to everyone getting better at being themselves. To push for what is right for themselves. Maeve finally reaches her catharsis, Jean and Joanna have a tussle, and Otis is coming to realize just everything he’s messed up. Some difficult decisions must be made, and that means huge changes for the future (even if we don’t get to see them Tt).

We never thought the words “cried” during Sex Education would come out of us, but here we are. Episode 6 of the teen drama is heartbreaking, as Maeve has to say goodbye to her mother. Otis is overwhelmed with a lot of feelings, and although he’s able to help strangers or acquaintances, he can’t seem to do the same for himself, his friends, or his family. With only two episodes remaining, a lot of drama is about to go down, and we’re hoping it’s all for the best. All we want is for everyone at Moordale to be happy. Until Otis and Jean are able to talk to each other and sort out their own mess, they’re going to struggle to get better themselves. It’s really amazing how much detail the show puts in, and hearing George Michael’s “Faith” when Eric is struggling with...

Phew! Episode 5 of Season 4 of Sex Education has us in a daze. Teenagers are always a mess, as Otis says, and this episode is too. Not to say that it isn’t a good episode, but it covers a lot of second-hand embarrassment. We’re finally seeing more of Otis and Maeve, but it isn’t in the satisfying, “we were waiting for the moment they got together” kind of way but rather, “Oh well, this doesn’t seem to be working out so well for them” kind of way. Because Maeve has so much going on for herself, Otis hasn’t had the chance to tell her about Ruby, and it’s been gnawing at his brain for a little bit. Will Otis make a mess of things, or is it because Maeve is just completely out of sorts? They’ll get over this obstacle, too.

Saying goodbye to a show like Sex Education is never easy.
Many teen dramas take the easy way out, with all of the couples finding happiness as they navigate life post-high school.
Sex Education Season 4 Episode 8 took a more realistic approach by repairing the friendships that buckled under the pressure of the issues everyone faced throughout the final season.
That wasn't an easy task by any stretch of the imagination.
Sex Education has always dealt with a massive cast, probably why the episodes have always been stuffed with content.
The series rarely wasted a scene, and it went out on a bittersweet note, leaving us to ponder what will become of everyone.
Maeve's letter to Otis seemed very final, which leads me to believe there's a high chance they won't cross paths again, which is a difficult pill to swallow.
Dear Otis. You know I hate soppy romantic stuff.

“Sex Education” Season 4 has arrived.
It’s been two years since Season 3 landed on Netflix and a lot happened last installment, especially within the crumbling walls of Moordale Secondary School. Jemima Kirke’s quirky headmistress Hope Haddon did her best to glue the cracked foundation of the school — left behind by Mr. Groff (Alistair Petrie) — but she couldn’t stop the demise of the doomed school with her attempts to smother any freedom of expression. Thus, all of the beloved students, most of whom were clients of Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey) and Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield) who ran a sex clinic together, had to transfer schools. We’ll let Season 4 speak for itself as to the fate of the Moordale students as well as other characters in the show.

Netflix’s “Sex Education” is in session for one last season. Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey), Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa) and more return for the fourth and final installment of the heartwarming and intimate dramedy series. The Moordale Secondary School crew face a whole new school year at Cavendish College, where most of them have transferred after the shut-down of their previous stomping grounds, run into the ground by Jemima Kirke’s Headmistress Hope Haddon.
While Otis, Eric, Viv, Jackson, Ruby, Aimee, Isaac and more have to navigate a new social scene at Cavendish, Maeve is across the pond in America taking a fancy writing seminar class. Maeve Wiley is one of the best-written characters on the small screen, but she'd be nothing without the phenomenal Emma Mackey bringing her storyline to life.
On Sex Education Season 4 Episode 7, many storylines reached natural conclusions as we prepare for the series finale of this Netflix hit.
Maeve's apprehension about going to Otis' home for dinner was driven by her feelings that Jean disapproved of their relationship.
Knowing that someone's judging you without knowing anything about you isn't easy, but as Jean has proven in the past, she's one of the best listeners.
The pair building a bridge between them allowed us to delve deeper into Maeve's deeply rooted insecurities and how she feels like she'll never be good enough.

The first series of Netflix teen drama Sex Education came out so long ago – in January 2019, pre-Covid, aka The Before Times – that it’s hard to remember a baby Otis and Eric turning up at their first day of sixth form. But even on day one, Ncuti Gatwa as Eric foreshadowed just how big a journey the characters would go on throughout the show’s four series, telling Otis (Asa Butterfield): “We shall transform from lowly caterpillars into… awesome killer whales?”
Back then, Eric was one of the only two gay people in his year, and he was constantly bullied, literally being pushed up against the lockers and called a “f**” in the first episode, as if the show was trying to win a full house in Stereotypical High School Drama Bingo. Later in the series, he’s the victim of a drive-by gay bashing,...

We’re taking our time watching the new Sex Education season because it’s the last one and we want to enjoy every moment. In Episode 4, the midpoint is emotional; it takes a melancholic turn, but at the same time, it makes you laugh out loud in a very Sex Education kind of way. This episode leaves all the main characters with some questions in their minds, and it’s a turning point for some of them. Some are coming to realize certain aspects of themselves that they didn’t know much about before. Sex Education Episode 4 focuses on Eric and Maeve more than the rest. It makes room for Joanna and Ruby to explore certain things on their own too, and an unexpected couple gets back together.

It's a bittersweet time for "Sex Education" fans. As Otis, Eric, Maeve, and Amy returned to Netflix for the fourth season on Sept. 21, those who've followed the sexploits of Moordale Secondary School have been acutely aware that it's the end of an era. Not only does the final season take place at new school Cavendish College, but all eyes are on how each of the character's stories will play out.
Since 2019, "Sex Education" has kept us entertained with its humor and heart. It has spotlighted a range of sexual identities and individual experiences, highlighted the impact of sexual assault and revenge porn, and encouraged open conversations. And while the final season continues to charm, it puts asexuality at the forefront in a huge leap for onscreen representation.

It wouldn't be the final season of a teen drama without relationships reaching worrying lows, and boy, Sex Education Season 4 Episode 5 left us with more questions than answers.
Otis has been making mistakes throughout the first half of the season, so it was about time he started to feel the heat following his actions.
He wanted to be Maeve's doting boyfriend or a Knight in Shining Armour during her difficult time.
That's commendable, sure, but he was in trouble in the first place because he's getting closer to Ruby again.
Maeve should've been made aware of her being his campaign manager from the beginning, and this mess would have been avoided.
He's so vocal in his therapy sessions about how having difficult conversations is key to good relationships, so it's a shame he doesn't practice what he approaches.
I will cut him a bit of slack because how could...

There's never a dull moment in Moordale, but Sex Education Season 4 Episode 4 will go down as one of the series' darkest installments yet.
The series did a great job of infusing humor through the darkness, but it's difficult to believe things will get much better for everyone as Sex Education Season 4 continues.
Erin was never the best mother to her children, and let's just say Maeve and Sean will harbor a lot of resentment towards her.
At one point, Maeve didn't care whether her mother was in her life because Erin had many selfish traits, but they managed to work through their issues on Sex Education Season 3.
On top of that, Erin was instrumental in her decision to go off and study in the U.S., so while observers might paint her as a terrible mother, there was a lot of good in her.

Maeve is in America, Otis and Eric are starting at a new college that feels more like a hippie cult or summer camp for horny teens, and Jean’s busy dealing with her new bundle of joy, Joy.

Everything has changed, and it's hard to tell where things will go next for all of the key players.
Sex Education Season 4 Episode 3 ended with a shocking cliffhanger that's sure to provide the make-or-break next steps for Otis and Maeve, and sadly, it seems like they're headed for disaster.
It is evident that Otis spending the night at Ruby's would lead to disaster, but even if their night was strictly platonic, Maeve will struggle that her boyfriend was with his ex-girlfriend in her time of need.
Something had to happen to bring Maeve back to town, and her mother's overdose means she'll be back home, possibly forever, and she'll be leaning on her friends for support.
Otis will undoubtedly feel guilty for not being there for her, but how will Maeve feel when she inevitably learns the truth?

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Sex Education” Season 4, including the ending.]
“Sex Education” does not end with a graduation. The finale isn’t centered on a wedding or a death. Laurie Nunn’s Netflix import has long eschewed traditional genre labels (like “teen comedy” or “high school drama”), fitting snugly within its own sweet and inquisitive, challenging and enlightening depiction of our peak hornt years of adolescence — so why not do away with rote landmark moments, too? Rather than force any resolutions upon its characters, as so many TV shows choose to build toward over their final seasons, the eight-episode kicker excavates emotional closure for Otis (Asa Butterfield), Maeve (Emma Mackey), Eric (Ncuti Gatwa), Adam (Connor Swindells), Jackson (Kedar Williams-Sterling), Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood), Jean (Gillian Anderson), and many more.
For a show preaching the benefits of talk therapy, could it have gone any other way?

Maeve And Otis’ relationship is off to a rocky start, what with her in America and meeting new people, while Otis is stuck trying to be a sex therapist again. While Otis is still excellent at being a therapist and truly knows how to help other people, he’s not quite mastered the art of treating himself. We now know that Otis called over Jean’s sister to help out at home because he was worried for his mom. Jean, who isn’t very happy about the prospect of her sister taking care of her child, still has to go to her new job, so maybe she’ll come around to the situation soon enough. In Sex Education episode 2, there’s a clash in the Coven, and Otis may finally have a way in with the crowd at the school, but will he manage to keep up his reputation?

It’s funny because we saw half the cast of this beloved show in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie only a month ago. Sex Education Episode 1 takes us right back to the lovely lives of Otis and his friends. The kids have now moved to “Cavendish College” mid-term, making it their new second home. With Moordale Secondary in their past, how are things going to change for Otis and the gang? Additionally, there’s a bundle of joy in Otis’ life now. Literally, his baby sister is named Joy, and Jean seemingly isn’t taking it quite as well as she’d imagined. There were many concerns that losing many of the original stars would harm Sex Education, but thankfully, the show is thriving.
Sex Education Season 4 Episode 2 put Cavendish's most popular relationship to the test, and it served as the perfect way for Otis to get one up on O.
Granted, he wouldn't have gotten the idea without Ruby, who is desperate to fit into the school's hierarchy, even if she has to work with her ex-boyfriend to make it happen.
Ruby and Otis were a surprise pairing on Sex Education Season 3, and I still believe they could be endgame.
Asa Butterfield and Mimi Keene have a lot of chemistry, so it's hard to consider Otis and Ruby being anything other than lovers when they share the screen.
Ruby wasn't over Otis when he ran back to Maeve, so there's resentment and some unrequited love there, which will probably rear its head as the season progresses.

After Moordale High was shut down, it was obvious the dynamics would be shaken up like never before.
Sex Education Season 4 Episode 1 welcomed us to Cavendish College, where most of the action will occur during the final season.
At first glance, the college is a complete 180 from the confines of High School, which isn't bad because it gives our favorite characters a different sandbox to play in as the series winds down.
We'll start with Otis because, somehow, he always seems to get on the wrong side of new people he meets.
The sad part of Otis' journey throughout the season premiere was that he struggled without Maeve and because Jean wasn't really serving as a mother figure in his life.
Cavendish was supposed to be where he returned to what he did best: Being a sex therapist to the students.
With Cavendish being one of the most progressive schools in TV history,...

Netflix has released the final trailer for the final season of ‘Sex Education,’ inviting viewers to a sneak peek of what’s to come as the series reaches its climax.
Following the closure of Moordale Secondary, Otis and Eric now face a new frontier – their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College. Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, whilst Eric is praying they won’t be losers again. But Cavendish is a culture shock for all the Moordale students – they thought they were progressive but this new college is another level.
There’s daily yoga in the communal garden, a strong sustainability vibe and a group of kids who are popular for being… kind?! Viv is totally thrown by the college’s student-led, non-competitive approach, while Jackson is still struggling to get over Cal. Aimee tries something new by taking an Art A-Level and Adam grapples with...

After four enlightening, entertaining and full-frontally filthy years of Sex Education, this Netflix teen drama is coming to an end with its fourth and final series, as the Moordale kids finish up their school years for good.
A lot has changed as we enter the new series. Moordale Secondary has closed down, scattering the student body we grew to love over the first three series far and wide, and Otis and Eric are starting at the unnervingly progressive wonderland that is Cavendish College, with a whole new set of classmates to get to know. Maeve is now studying in America, Otis’ mum Jean has just had a surprise new baby, and a few other Sex Education favourites are missing entirely.
Let’s take a look at the Sex Education series four cast, old and new:
New Cast Dan Levy as Thomas Molloy
Schitts’ Creek star and creator Dan Levy plays Thomas Molloy,...
