Hulu is hungry for more Taste the Nation: The streamer has renewed the culinary travel series, hosted and executive-produced by Padma Lakshmi, for Season 2.
The show explores “the rich and diverse food culture of various immigrant groups, seeking out the people who have so heavily shaped what American food is today,” per the official description. “From indigenous communities to recent immigrant arrivals, Padma breaks bread with Americans across the nation to uncover the roots and relationship between our food, our humanity and our history — ultimately revealing stories that challenge notions of identity, belonging, and what it means to be American.

For this week’s horror and sci-fi home media releases, we have some Stephen King on tap, as well as a ton of indie horror and a classic genre romance as well. If you missed it previously, you can now catch up with the second season of Castle Rock, which is coming out on both Blu-ray & DVD, and if you’re a big softie like this writer, you’ll definitely want to pick up the new Blu for Ghost, which Paramount is releasing in honor of the film’s 30th anniversary.
If you have aspiring young horror fans in your midst, Scoob! hits a variety of formats this week, and for those of you in the mood for a classic suspense film, Torment should more than hold you over for a while.
Other releases for July 21st include The Room, Parts Unknown, Creature Cabin, Deadtectives, and a Horror Thrillers 4-Film...

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Still, in times of social distancing and quarantine, it’s nice to see some work is getting done behind the scenes at HBO Max. Indeed, the incoming streaming service from WarnerMedia announced Thursday a bonanza of new shows they’re developing with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions—with Overlook, a spinoff of Stephen King’s The Shining, at the top of the list.
Apparently intended to be a similar dive into the horror-filled imaginings of King as Hulu and Warner Bros. Television’s two seasons of Castle Rock on Hulu, Overlook is described as a horror thriller inspired by and featuring iconic characters who appeared in King’s 1977 novel about a haunted resort in the Colorado Rockies. Or as WarnerMedia deigns it, “The most famous haunted hotel in American fiction.” Intriguingly, the series has already been ordered, with King attached,...

Castle Rock Season 2 Episode 8
Things have reached a breaking point in the towns of Castle Rock and Jerusalem's Lot, and Annie and Nadia's earthly problems suddenly seem minuscule in the face of this Satanic takeover. While "Dirty" is an entertaining episode, it lacks a bit of the substance of the first seven episodes, settling into familiar horror tropes instead. This is perhaps the horror-focused episode you've been waiting for, but its hard for it to stand next to the brilliant chapters that have come before.
If you love blood and guts, "Dirty" is certainly the episode for you. From throats being cut to people's heads being bashed open with a sledgehammer, the episode lets Annie lose herself in some bloody murder, as she tries...

Castle Rock Season 2 Episode 7
Castle Rock delivers another stunning twist in "The Word," an episode that not only connects the dots between past and present but also between seasons. Along the way, we get a surprising Bill Skarsgard return in the final scene of the episode as well as an excellent performance from Mathilde Dehaye (The Pretenders), who is revealed to be the mysterious Amity Lambert, the crux of the plot against Castle Rock and Jerusalem's Lot this season.
"The Word" takes a deep dive into Jerusalem's Lot and Castle Rock's past. We meet the French colonists of New Jerusalem, the misfortunate, starving villagers living on cursed soil that will bear no fruit. That is, until Amity, an exiled young woman accused of being a witch, encounters...

Rick Ludwin was the unsung hero of “Seinfeld.” That’s how Alan Horn, Walt Disney Studios chairman and former head of “Seinfeld” producer Castle Rock Entertainment, remembered the longtime NBC executive who died Nov. 10 at the age of 71.
Ludwin was instrumental in getting the beloved “show about nothing” on to NBC as a regular series. Castle Rock had produced an offbeat pilot starring Jerry Seinfeld as a standup comedian in New York. NBC decided to burn off “The Seinfeld Chronicles” pilot with an airing in the dog days of summer — on July 5, 1989.
Horn told Variety that Castle Rock figured the show had no future at NBC. But Ludwin, who ran NBC’s late-night and variety specials division, thought “Seinfeld” concept had potential. He went out on a limb with his boss, then-nbc chief Brandon Tartikoff, to prove it.
Ludwin “went to Brandon Tartikoff after he saw that the pilot was being burned off.

Castle Rock Season 2 Episode 4
Is Pop a villain? That's a question I posed to actor Tim Robbins during the Castle Rock season 2 press junket a few weeks back. He played coy and didn't directly answer the question, but one thing is for sure: Pop is a complicated man with a guilty conscience.
With Castle Rock, showrunners Dustin Thomason and Sam Shaw get to rewrite the story of Pop Merrill, a character who first appeared in Stephen King's short story "The Sun Dog." Here, he isn't just a crime boss but a loving dad, a tough uncle, a loan shark, and seemingly a beloved member of the Castle Rock community. He even helps Somali immigrants start their own businesses in Jerusalem's Lot, a town that's generally unhappy with the arrival of these foreigners.

Castle Rock season 2 is a veritable feast of horrors so far. "New Jerusalem" builds on the excellent "Let the River Run" quite well. The episode picks up minutes after the premiere, as Annie finds herself in a chasm underneath the construction site where she planned to bury Ace. Jerusalem's Lot is a town known for its secrets, especially those buried down deep in its darkest corners, and what Annie finds while trying to escape doesn't disappoint.
"New Jerusalem" gives us our first look at the Marsten House, the infamous mansion of unimaginable horrors that first appeared in Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot. But Castle Rock doesn't usually play things straight, always putting a twist on familiar King lore. This version of the...

Hulu has released an interesting promo spot for Castle Rock Season 2. It takes the viewers on a 14-minute long road trip from Castle Rock to Jerusalem’s Lot and the radio is on to keep you entertained as you travel.
You are supposed to keep a lookout to see if you can see or hear anything. I will say, there are a ton of references to some of Stephen King’s popular stories including Stand By Me, Misery, Salem’s Lot, Maximum Overdrive, It, Needful Things, The Mist, Under The Dome, Pet Semetary, Sleeping Beauties, The Shawshank Redemption, 11/22/63, The Stand, The Dead Zone, and more!
For those of you who are familiar with King’s work, these references aren’t hard to catch. You just have to listen. This is actually a pretty cool promo and while it may seem boring for some, it’s exciting for the Stephen King fans like myself.

Gathered here are the scariest and most bingeable horror shows that Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and more have to offer.
Horror and television have always been a bit of an awkward fit. What's scary and what's bingeable sometimes seem mutually exclusive. Horror requires that you suspend your disbelief and the longer it asks of your attention span, the higher the risk that the tension wanes.
Still, in the modern streaming era, there are plenty of horror TV shows that get the spooky job done. Gathered on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and HBO Now are some truly great bingeable options to elevate the heart rate. Here we've compiled the very best of the best. What follows are the 31 best streaming horror TV shows.

What should you know about the upcoming fall season of television? Well, first of all, remember that fall television isn't the highlight of the television year. That honor falls the months of January through April.
Sports dominate the fall schedule, and many networks hold their better premieres for a later date. It's crazy to a TV Fanatic like me, but it is what it is.
Networks also have a lot of competition these days with streamers. New shows are premiering every week, and it's a lot juggle. So when the broadcast nets start airing new scripted material again, should you watch it, or should you stick to the tried and true?
This article is only for shows that will air weekly. We'll try to do as many individual reviews ahead of streaming series as we can, but trying to watch for recommendations is incredibly time-consuming.

I loved the first season of Hulu’s Castle Rock, which is a series that dives into the deep dark world of the Stephen King universe. The full trailer has been released for Season 2, and it’s got me super excited for the madness that is coming!
In Season 2, “a feud between warring clans comes to a boil when budding psychopath Annie Wilkes (Lizzy Caplan), Stephen King's nurse from hell, gets waylaid in Castle Rock." The fact that her character is involved in this next season is awesome and it looks like Caplan is going to be great in the role. She’s got the crazy and insane look in her eyes that the character needs.

The Kino Lorber Blu-ray release of Stephen King’s 1993 Needful Things comes in the midst of Hollywood’s current remake fever. With such projects as Carrie (2013), It (2017), Pet Sematary (2019) and the upcoming It: Chapter Two (2019), this author’s works continue to draw movie audiences and infuse the horror genre as they had during the 1980s and 90s. Revisiting this original production of King’s 1991 novel - whereupon the devil comes to visit the small Maine town of Castle Rock - one is reminded why both his novels and films alike are regarded as iconic horror set pieces.
Following along on the heels of previous successes such as Carrie (1973), The Shining (1980), Pet Sematary (1989), and Misery (1990) - and released only a year before the iconic Shawshank Redemption (1994) - Needful Things shares many similarities to King’s other works. From Stephen King and J.J. Abrams comes Castle Rock, a new psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse. Castle Rock is an original story that combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of Stephen King’s best loved works, while weaving an epic saga of darkness and light that’s played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. To celebrate the shows release, which is out on Digital Download, Blu-ray and DVD September 2 we are giving you the chance to win a copy of Castle Rock on DVD.
The first season of Castle Rock follows Henry Deaver, a Death Row attorney who returns to Castle Rock, Maine, his hometown, after he receives an anonymous phone call from the infamous Shawshank State Penitentiary. The call is about a nameless young man who is found locked in an underground cage that’s located in a long-abandoned cell block beneath the prison.

The Devil is the detail that makes so many shows stand out from the crowd.
He is the Tempter, the Manipulator, the Prince of Darkness, with all the style, wit, and chutzpah that those titles entail.
And yeah, he commands the Army of Hell and bears a big grudge against humanity for stealing Daddy God's love away from His angels.
19 Times the Enemy was Closer than We Knew
So whether he is portrayed as a once-off antagonist, the wise-cracking employer, or the Big Bad Evil Guy, he's typically gonna draw focus from (and be far more interesting than) any "heroes" in the picture.
So which Beelzebub lights your Hellfire? Who has been the most iconic Lord of Hell in your opinion? Seriously, to which one would you sell your soul?

Exclusive: Hulu is recasting one of the leads opposite Lizzy Caplan in the second season of Castle Rock. Paul Sparks has been tapped to play John “Ace” Merrill, Castle Rock’s legendary bully, in the psychological horror series from J.J. Abrams and Stephen King. Sparks replaces Garrett Hedlund, who was originally cast in the role.
I hear the recasting was a creative decision related to the character of Ace, who is taking over his uncle Pop’s (Tim Robbins) businesses and threatening a fragile peace with nearby Jerusalem’s Lot. It was made after Hedlund had filmed a handful of scenes. They will now be reshot.
In Season 2 of Castle Rock, a feud between warring clans comes to a boil when budding psychopath Annie Wilkes (Lizzy Caplan), Stephen King’s nurse from hell, gets waylaid in Castle Rock. Season 2 cast also include Yusra Warsama, Barkhad Abdi,...

Hulu is setting up the second season of “Castle Rock” to be a prequel to Stephen King’s “Misery” and has cast Lizzy Caplan as a younger version of Annie Wilks.
“Castle Rock” is the re-imagining of the entire King canon into one universe and touches on some of his most iconic stories and characters. The fictional Maine town sits at the center of the King universe, appearing in numerous books including “Cujo,” “The Dead Zone,” and “The Body” (the novella that “Stand By Me” was based on).
In Season 2, a feud between warring clans comes to a boil when Annie Wilkes, King’s nurse from hell, gets waylaid in Castle Rock. Wilks was played by Kathy Bates in the 1990 film “Misery” which featured Bates as a former nurse and crazed fan of James Caan’s novelist, Paul Sheldon.

The HBO comedy “Barry” is having a great day. First it reaped three Golden Globe nominations and then it earned another three bids at the Writers Guild of America Awards. At the WGA, it competes for Best Comedy Series writing as well as for an individual episode and for the catch-all Best New Series award.
For the comedy series award, “Barry” faces off against reigning Emmy champ “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” as well as “Atlanta,” “Glow” and “The Good Place.” “Barry” is the only comedy up for the new series award alongside the dramas “The Haunting of Hill House,” “Homecoming,” “Pose” and “Succession.”
Of those four, only “Succession” made it into Best Drama Series where it competes against the final season of “The Americans,” season 4 of “Better Call Saul” and the sophomore editions of “The Crown” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
The WGA Awards winners will be revealed on Feb.
