When a government-run lab accidentally lets loose a deadly virus, most of the population of the world is wiped-out. Survivors begin having dreams about two figures: a mystical old woman, or a foreboding, scary man. As the story tracks various people, we begin to realize that the two figures exemplify basic forces of good and evil, and the stage is set for a final confrontation between the representatives of each. I own this movie on video and have watched it several times. I have also read the book. I like this movie for several reasons. For one, it very closely mirrors the book (most likely because Mr. King was involved throughout the entire movie making process). I enjoyed the movie's use of imagery and foreshadowing. I also enjoyed this movie because for some warped reason I like story lines about catastrophes that come close to destroying the human species and show how humans come back from these disasters. Such as "The Day After Tomorrow" or "War of the Worlds." One other note, the movie is based in the 80s so you have to keep that in mind when judging clothes, etc.
