In May 2020, two months into the production shutdown caused by the global pandemic, NBC acquired Canadian medical drama Transplant, which landed on the network’s Covid-impacted fall schedule. In December of that year, NBC picked up Season 2 of the show.
In May 2023, two weeks into the WGA strike which could lead to a mass production shutdown if a deal is not reached soon, NBC has acquired Seasons 3 and 4 of Transplant, likely as strike contingency.
Like in 2020, Transplant is not on the fall NBC schedule the network is unveiling at the upfronts. It was in August 2020 when NBC slid Transplant into its fall lineup when it became clear that no fresh episodes of the network’s scripted series would be ready for September.
NBC is taking a similar wait-and-see approach this time, though most of its scripted shows on the fall schedule unveiled today are expected to have at least a few episodes ready for September.

Produced by legendary Canadian music producer Bob Ezrin, and executive produced by Randy Lennox (Loft Entertainment) and Carrie Mudd (Peacock Alley Entertainment), the anthem “What I Wouldn’t Do (North Star Calling)” weaves Serena Ryder’s inspiring message and profound lyrics from her song “What I Wouldn’t Do” with Leela Gilday’s sonically beautiful bridge from “North Star Calling”.
The single, released on March 2, kicks off Kids Help Phone‘s new initiative to help Canadian youth “feel out loud” and express their emotions in a safe and supported way, anchored by a fundraising goal of $300 million to reach every young person in Canada by 2024 by expanding access to Kids Help Phone’s e-mental health services.

Peacock has nabbed streaming rights to the Howie Mandel documentary “But Enough About Me.”
The film that examines Mandel’s long career in comedy and his long battle with obsessive compulsive disorder made the festival rounds last year. Directed by Barry Avrich, “Howie Mandel: But Enough About Me” will be available as of Aug. 10 on NBCUniversal’s streaming service.
“When you’re doing a documentary on a world-renowned germaphobe, there’s no better production value than a worldwide pandemic,” Mandel told Variety.
The deal with Peacock is appropriate given that NBC has been Mandel’s home on and off since the early 1980s when he was a member of the ensemble of medical drama “St. Elsewhere” At present he serves as a judge for NBC’s summer stalwart “America’s Got Talent.” He is also host of the game show franchise “Deal or No Deal,” which has aired on NBC and CNBC.

Netflix announced the final season of “Dear White People” will launch Sept. 22 and be a musical season.
“The only way to move forward is to throw it back,” a teaser for the season previews. From there a cover of Montell Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It” kicks into gear.
The teaser also shows the students getting ready to dance, with snapping of hands and getting into formation to perform Jordan’s 1995 hit. There is an Afro-futuristic and 1990s-inspired dance floor, as the students of the fictional Winchester University look back on their time on campus amid their final year.
“Dear White People,” an extension of the film of the same name by Justin Simien, deals with issues of race, class and sexuality on that college campus. Logan Browning’s Sam White hosts a radio show within the series that is also titled “Dear White People” and is where...

Home Reno Star Mike Holmes Seals Bell Media Partnership With Super Bowl ‘Holmes Family Effect’ Debut
Mike Holmes is making it right on his biggest scale yet.
The Canadian contractor and TV personality, whose personal motto promises to “make it right,” is preparing to unveil his latest renovation series, “Holmes Family Effect,” on Feb. 7 in the coveted post-Super Bowl timeslot. But it’s the platform his series is debuting on that has media watchers readjusting their own tool belts.
“Holmes Family Effect,” which debuts on Fox later this spring, marks Holmes’ debut on Canadian broadcaster CTV. Parent company Bell Media has been plotting Holmes’ splashy debut since 2019, when it announced the new partnership at its June upfront presentation. The alliance marked Holmes’ first break from HGTV Canada (owned by Bell Media competitor Corus Media) in 16 years. He first debuted on HGTV in 2003 with “Holmes on Homes.”
At HGTV Canada, Holmes starred in nine Canadian original series and specials, amassing more than 21 million Canadian viewers and solidifying...

NBC has picked up the second season of the Canadian medical drama “Transplant,” the network announced Friday.
“Transplant’s” home network, Canada’s CTV, has already commissioned a second season of the drama, which NBC will air in the U.S. The broadcast network previously imported the first season to pad its fall lineup and saw strong viewership numbers as a result, particularly in delayed viewing.
NBC’s run of “Transplant” Season 1 averaged a 0.7 rating in adults 18-49 and 5.7 million viewers, according to Nielsen’s live-plus-seven-day numbers. The show was successful enough that NBC moved to expand its import strategy with another Canadian medical drama, Global TV’s “Nurses,” which premiered on the network earlier this week.

Canadian singer-songwriter and actor Jann Arden is coming to Hulu.
Hit comedy “Jann,” created by series star Arden with Leah Gauthier and Jennica Harper, and executive produced by Andrew Barnsley (“Schitt’s Creek”) will debut both its seasons on the streamer in early 2021.
In “Jann,” Arden plays a fictionalized, self-deprecating version of herself: a singer-songwriter of a “certain age” in severe denial of the harsh reality that her former music career is slowly fading away. With her personal life also in shambles, the series — which airs on Canadian broadcaster CTV — takes a comic look at her attempts to stage a personal and professional comeback.
The series is a CTV, Project 10 Productions and SEVEN24 Films production, consisting of six episodes in its first season and eight in its second. Hulu has exclusive U.S. rights. “Jann” was nominated for several awards at the Canadian Screen Awards, and Arden and Harper won...

The five broadcast networks in May and June unveiled their “fall” 2020 schedules, with Fox and the CW opting for pandemic-proof lineups featuring predominantly original and acquired series already in the can, while NBC, CBS and ABC bet on regular schedules featuring new and returning series yet to be filmed with the caveat that some launches could be delayed by the Covid-related production shutdown.
Faced with uncertainty as the majority of new and returning series are yet to start shooting, NBC, ABC and CBS have started to adjust their fall plans.
NBC today announced a Sept. 1 premiere for Canadian medical drama Transplant, which it acquired in May, weeks into the production shutdown (watch the promo below). The 13-episode series will air in an established medical drama slot, the 10 Pm berth occupied by New Amsterdam for the past two seasons.
Transplant will have two-hour live America’s Got Talent episodes as a lead-in on Sept.
