I Dream of a Psychopomp is not a documentary about the 90s-era industrial band Psychopomps. What it is, is a collection of three short films and a wraparound all directed by Danny Villanueva Jr. and co-writer J. Anthony Ramos (Charlie and the Empty Factories).
The wraparound is the story of Kerry, a man struggling to get over the loss of his wife Evelyn. Something that’s made worse by the fact she died in an accident he was responsible for. He has a conversation with Charles (Steven Alonte; Cathedral) the owner of the funeral home where Evelyn’s body lies. We're at the part of the festivities where nothing that's happening is nearly enough.
A Discovery of Witches Season 3 Episode 6 wasn't bad by any means, but with only two hours remaining, it's just not where I want the focus to be as the series rides off into the sunset.
Truthfully, The Book of Life was my least favorite out of the three All Souls books, too, but even that had a lot more meat to enjoy.
So, what's my beef, exactly?
We're getting to the crescendo, but there won't be any time to come down once it peaks.
A Discovery of Witches Season 1 focused on Diana and Matthew finding each other, falling in love, Diana's acceptance of her powers, and Matthew's acceptance of falling in love with a witch.
A Discovery of Witches Season 2 solidified their love, added depth to their relationship, and Diana got the help she needed to...

Warning: this A Discovery of Witches review contains spoilers.
What does one wear to a de Clermont creature Christening? The etiquette’s patchy, seeing as Diana and Matthew’s babies are a miraculous anomaly and the family hasn’t hosted a ‘do’ in five hundred years. Something floral, probably. That, or a suit of armour.
Rebecca and Philip’s official entry into the Christian Church was approached more like a military campaign than an excuse to get together and wet the babies’ heads. Invitations were sent out strategically, each one a bomb dropped on centuries-old tradition and on the authority of the Congregation. The run-up resembled nothing so much as the night before a battle, just with Ysabeau inspecting the floral arrangements and embroidered gowns instead of the troops. Jaws were set, grave pronouncements were made, canapes were prepared…
It all ended, as these things often do, with a family punch-up.

Bem vindo, babies! Welcome to A Discovery of Witches, a world of magic, mortal danger, extremely covetable houses, and excellent coats (every character has at least one excellent coat. Presumably the babies will be fitted for theirs shortly). Though their world is fraught with danger, little Philip and Rebecca are lucky mites. Yes, they’ve been born into the middle of a war, but they’ve landed on the winning side, with a mum who’s an all-powerful witch prophesied to change the world, and a dad who drives a Bentley – it’s all the start in life any child needs.
A good portion of episode four was devoted to the babies’ arrival, which had a characteristic Matthew-and-Diana honeyed glow about it. Trust those two to have a silky, romantic labour. No hospital gowns, strip lighting and plastic bedsheets for them – just lightly perspiring gorgeousness.

There are two significant narrative paths for A Discovery of Witches Season 3 Episode 3.
The first follows Diana and Phoebe as they try to get their hands on the remaining pages of Ashmole 782.
The other follows Matthew, Marcus, and Jack as they try to get more samples for the research into blood rage and form a scion of their own.
Once complete, both paths will converge to bring forth enlightenment and allow creatures to live harmoniously together. So, it's a pretty big deal.
Only one of the two had emotional resonance worthy of a deep dive discussion, so we'll start with the more straightforward topic.
Phoebe has become an invaluable member of the family and the team trying to gather the final pages of Ashmole 782.
That, and, well, I really like her. She was written very well in the book, and Adelle Leonce does a wonderful job with the character.

Who’d be a vampire? Yes, the eternal youth, fashion, cars, French castles and beautifully wallpapered Mayfair abodes are one thing, but oh the guilt and inflexible hierarchy that goes with it. Matthew de Clermont should be spending this time dancing sexy tangos with his magical wife and deciding on nursery décor for the twins, but no. He’s got DNA to harvest, a disease to cure, a scion to form, and the not-insignificant task of coming out to a roomful of human PhDs who are definitely about to ask him if he can turn into a bat. No rest for the wicked(ly) handsome and tormented, I suppose.
Like blood rage, torment runs through Matthew’s line, and both combine in his newest family member: Jack Blackfriars, played by The Last Kingdom’s Toby Regbo. The blood-raged killer responsible for...

Hello, all of you who love the show and those who read the books, too.
We're about to see a lot unfold very quickly, and A Discovery of Witches Season 3 Episode 1 revealed the focus of these final episodes.
Diana isn't just pregnant; she's carrying twins, and that calls for change.
Diana and Matthew timewalked home in the wake of Peter Knox's attack on Emily, and while it was heartbreaking, Sarah needed them.
Sarah and Emily were at Sept-Tours for safety and with the belief that the de Clermont home, where Philippe launched The Covenant and The Congregation, was off-limits for that kind of attack.
As it turned out, that safety wasn't guaranteed. Between Matthew and Diana on the run and Emily practicing the darker side of magic, Sept-Tours became fair game.
If anyone was hoping for help from Baldwin, well, who in the hell would expect his help? He only helps family,...

They may be magical creatures ruled by mystical rites, but when it comes to family, the vampires, witches and daemons are no different from the rest of us. Gather the clan together under one roof and pretty soon it’s all rivalry, resentment and stalking out of dinner in a huff. One brother doesn’t like his new sister-in-law, the youngest wants the eldest to move with the times. ‘You’re breaking an ancient covenant’, ‘You didn’t tell me I carried a genetic disease that turned my vampire children into uncontrollably vicious monsters’… All the usual beef. The only difference is that the de Clermonts get to do it in all a stunningly lit castle over a glass of what must be excellent wine.
Season three got off to a mournful start as Diana and Matthew time-walked straight to poor Aunt Em’s death bed.

It’s the beginning of the end on A Discovery of Witches. In the TV adaptation’s third and final season, Diana and Matthew return to the present to face a personal tragedy and deep political division among the creatures. The forces of conservatism seek to preserve the separation between vampires, witches and daemons; while reformers wish to dismantle the status quo. Threats from the Book of Life, the Oxford blood-rage killer, the Congregation and Peter Knox all continue, while Diana comes into her prophesied role as the witch who will change everything.
Joining the existing characters in the ongoing battle are newcomers Fernando (Olivier Huband), Ransome (Parker Sawyers), Geraldine (Genesis Lynea), Dr Roberts (Ivanno Jeremiah), and actor Toby Regbo. Season three also welcomes Peter McDonald, who takes over the existing role of Baldwin St Clair from Trystan Gravelle. Find out more about them all below, with mild spoilers right at the end.

Warning: contains spoilers for A Discovery of Witches seasons one and two.
A Discovery of Witches began as a Romeo and Juliet-ish romance about the forbidden love between a witch and a vampire in a world where magical creatures were segregated by a centuries-old covenant. It was the story of Diana, a scientist and witch whose extraordinary magic had been hidden from her by parents trying to protect her from the power-hungry Peter Knox, who sought to make it his own. In season one, Diana learned who she was and whom she loved – Matthew de Clermont, the son of a powerful vampire family with a historical prejudice against witches.
In season two, the pair time-walked back to Matthew’s old life in Elizabethan England where Diana completed her witch training and learned of her prophesied role in the future of magical creatures. In the 16th century, Matthew battled past...

Strap in, everybody, it’s time for another year of television.
After 2021 saw the “small screen” grow even bigger thanks to the introduction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and one South Korean phenomenon, 2022 is set to try it out all over again.
Marvel is still set to be a factor this year with shows like Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk all pegged for releases on 2022. DC is also getting in on the action with The Suicide Squad‘s Peacemaker getting his own HBO Max show in January. And that’s not even to mention the arrival of the oldest franchise of them all: The Lord of The Rings.
Throughout it all in 2022, we expect many shows to step out of the shadows of relative obscurity and surprise us with their quality and success. Before all that, however, here are some sure things to look forward to in the year to come.

Several years after a falling out with her family in Detroit, a young woman returns to the city she grew up in to mourn the sudden death of her twin brother. Upon meeting her brother’s eclectic group of friends, stepping into the scene he belonged to, and navigating the urban playground that is Detroit, she soon discovers that his death is not what it seems.
Given the rising cost of living and stagnant wages, the famous saying that goes “You can never go home again.” Is more like “You can never leave home.” However Time Now does feature a protagonist, Jenny, who has left home, only returning to sort things out after the death of her twin brother.

This A Discovery of Witches article contains major spoilers.
Not every television series learns exactly how many episodes it has to tell its story, and the Shudder/Sundance Now fantasy drama A Discovery of Witches takes full advantage of that knowledge leading viewers down a season two path that intentionally raises more questions than answers. It’s been a wild ride as Diana Bishop and Matthew Clairmont continue their search for The Book of Life amidst the creature underworld of 16th century Elizabethan London, and not surprisingly there’s a lot to unpack about the season finale.
Throughout the season the actions of the principal characters center around the acquisition of the book, and though Diana and Matthew acquire the tome with relatively little effort, holding onto it proves a bit more problematic. Nevertheless, watching young Jack utilize his skillset to recover the book from Lord Burghley’s henchmen is delightfully subtle.

Say it’s not so. We’re going to have to wait until season three to see Bishop vs Knox, the fight of the century?
Usually when a character spends a series on a skills-training arc, the payoff is a big, satisfying, exploding-fireworks demonstration of those skills. Think Daniel’s crane kick in The Karate Kid or Baby’s lift in Dirty Dancing. (I have no examples from this century. I am an old lady.) They train, they improve, they do something cool in silhouette, and then at the very end, they put on a big show and everybody goes home happy.
The issue here is that this isn’t a movie, it’s not the very end and nobody’s going home just yet. We’re two thirds of the way through this story, so instead of a showdown, we were given an ellipsis.

A pregnancy! Something really has stuck its finger into the creature gene pot and swirled it around hasn’t it? First it was daemons born to witches and vice versa, now a vampire and a witch have conceived, going against millennia of biology. Whatever next – big, fiery birds swooping out of people’s midriffs to smite their enemies? Yes, exactly! Don’t you just love fantasy?
Corra the firedrake is Diana’s long-promised familiar, an elemental creature unlocked by reaching level six of her weaver training. Knot of one: the spell’s begun. Knot of two: the spell is true. Knot of six: Ca-Kaw! Ca-Kaw! In the same way that Diana’s spellbound powers sprang up to defend her from danger, Corra is here to protect Diana from her foes.
This week, those foes were the cartoonish Kit and Louisa, who...

On A Discovery of Witches Season 1 Episode 7, Matthew and Diana arrive in Madison to frolic gaily in the woods and the bedroom while arguing here and there with Sarah and Emily only to have their joy cut short thanks to Juliette.
This is one of my favorite episodes because of how together Matthew and Diana are once they're off their home turf.
We also finally get an opportunity to know Sarah and Emily better, while learning even more about Diana's binding.
The change in setting is a good time to remind everyone what a beautifully filmed show we have with A Discovery of Witches.
Everyone behind the scenes makes the most of color and lighting whether by way of costumes, locations, the framing of a scene, the contrasts in lighting, or whatever else I do not understand about the process, watching it is a feast for the eyes.

There is so much to learn from A Discovery of Witches Season 1 Episode 6!
Not only do we find out that love gives you wings (and here I thought it was Redbull!), but we also discover even more about Diana, Matthew, and even Satu.
But don't worry. This installment might be ladenw ith information, but there is also a lot of love brewing between Matthew and Diana. I may have gotten teary eyed once or twice. I'm such a sap!
Why not start with some eye candy? I couldn't think of a reason not to, so you're welcome.
Matthew is hot when he's just lurking around in his grundies as well as when he's imbued with anger over Baldwin's continuous inane questions about whether or not "the witch is worth it."
Yes, Matthew woke up to find that his love wasn't beside him, and she wasn't on the property, either. She...

Matthew and Diana visit Sept-Tours on A Discovery of Witches Season 1 Episode 4 where their connections deepens while others try to tear them apart.
For the time being, those forces are winning, but even Ysabeau and Marthe have a difficult time disliking Diana, a witch of all things, when they see the pain she feels at potentially losing Matthew.
The Congregation also gets more involved in all things Diana and Matthew, and Diana learns about the Covenant.
At it's core, A Discovery of Witches is an allegory about humanity and how we cannot all get along despite all of the similarities we share.
It's a Romeo and Juliette story in which the real Juliette is not the love interest. There are so many different ways to see the story, but all views share the commonality that you can't judge a person by their trappings.
Still, that's exactly what Ysabeau de Clermont...

All the creatures are dying out, kind of like the polar ice caps.
That's an analogy Matthew used during A Discovery of Witches Season 1 Episode 2 while explaining to Diana why it's so important for her to use her magic and to share his concern over the status of earth's creatures.
If it's not just vampires dying, does that mean people like Peter Knox have no idea about the expiration date on witchcraft?
It's hard to understand the hatred of witches toward their fellow creatures, but the same doesn't seem to follow from vampires.
That's something Diana recognized straight away, and she got her proof when Matthew shared with her their laboratory.
But we got to see it first-hand when Matthew retreated to the country for a little bit of hunting.
Not only was he there out of the desire to protect Diana, but his pal Hamish showed concern over Diana's well-being as well.

Diana Bishop really can't catch a break, can she? First the heroine at the heart of A Discovery of Witches, played to perfection by Australian actress Teresa Palmer, finds herself struggling to accept her witchy abilities and declining awkward invites to coven gatherings. Then she has to somehow pretend she's not romantically interested in Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode), which is a true feat of strength. And Then she magically accesses Ashmole 782 and all hell breaks loose in the supernatural world. Kind of a crazy first week at Oxford for Diana, huh?
In the second episode of season one, which airs on Sunday, April 14, Diana encounters yet another dangerous hurdle in her journey down the magic rabbit hole: a deadly, extremely powerful Scandinavian witch named Satu Järvinen (Malin Buska). After being tipped off to Diana's exciting discovery by Peter Knox (Owen Teale), Satu pays Diana a surprise visit during her run...

One of those most enjoyable aspects so far of A Discovery Of Witches is that although it’s a series about magic, there’s a lot of science in it. The idea that creatures such as vampires and demons should choose, in the modern age, to be doctors, geneticists, and academics, is a really enjoyable one. Why lurk around in graveyards when there’s finally a chance of using your superior intellect and advanced age to get some answers?

Sundance Now and Shudder have acquired A Discovery of Witches, the Sky original drama based on Deborah Harkness’ best-selling novel. The eight-episode series starring Teresa Palmer and Matthew Goode will stream on both services, but no premiere date was announced.
Produced by Bad Wolf, A Discovery of Witches is a contemporary love story that begins against the backdrop of Oxford academic life, in a world where small numbers of witches, vampires and daemons live and work, unseen amongst humans, hiding in plain sight. Brilliant historian Diana Bishop (Palmer) is a reluctant witch denying her heritage when the discovery of a bewitched manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library throws her into the heart of a dangerous mystery – and into the path of the enigmatic vampire and geneticist, Matthew Clairmont (Goode), who hides a dark family secret.
