While underrated upon its release, as John Carpenter’s The Thing failed to make it big commercially following its competition with other sci-fi releases at the time, time has been kind to it. Not only has the sci-fi horror gone on to garner cult status, but many have also deemed it among one of the greatest films the genre has to offer, even deeming it more important than Carpenter’s Halloween.
And the film’s influence is significantly visible in InnerSloth LLC’s Among Us. Hence, it only makes sense for the upcoming adaptation of the game to take further inspiration from the horror, and following its synopsis, it seems like the case.

While fans of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of season 2 Here) patiently wait to see the bonus episode that’s going to air sometime between the second and third seasons, showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco have let it be known that season 3 – which was, of course, greatly delayed by the strikes that hit the entertainment industry last year – is finally going to start filming in May, aiming for an early 2025 premiere!
Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis star in Yellowjackets, which is is described as “equal parts survival epic, horror story, and coming-of-age drama.” The story centers on a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness. This year’s Emmy Awards were all about TV reunions, while audiences around the country got to see the cast of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Cheers” reunite, there were some unofficial ones that didn’t make the live broadcast.
Take the “Yellowjackets” cast and crew, who got back together before the show started.
The show was nominated for two Emmys including best drama series and lead actress in a drama for Melanie Lynskey. Hours before the show aired, the teen cast including Liv Hewson, Courtney Eaton, Sophie Nélisse, Sammi Hanratty and Kevin Alves had gathered in the lobby, chatting and taking selfies before doors to the main theater were open. They were joined by Warren Kole and later director Karyn Kusama and showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, as well as Tawny Cypress.
Yes, season 3 is being written and the show is expected to be back in production in late May.

Fans of supernatural cannibal drama Yellowjackets are facing a long wait for season 3 which won’t grace our screens until 2025 now.
In 2023, Hollywood came to a standstill for several months while writers and actors went on strike for better terms and conditions. The effects of those strikes are still being felt.
Yellowjackets is one of the many shows that faces a long delay in getting a new season out. Showtime’s drama aired its second season earlier in 2023, which ended on a pretty shocking note – you’ll have to watch the series to find out exactly what that note was.
Deadline now reports that Yellowjackets season 3 is looking at a 2025 release. The pre-production of the new season was interrupted by the writers’ strike just one day in, and writing only got back underway in September 2023.
The series follows a girls football team that find themselves stranded in the woods after a plane crash.

The third season of Yellowjackets will not be premiering until 2025, Yellowjackets executive producers Ashley Lyle, Jonathan Lisco and Bart Nickerson told Deadline on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards on Monday night.
Following the writers and actors strikes that delayed production for most scripted series, the writers room for the Showtime psychological thriller reopened in September. Pre-production for the series was shut down just one day after the WGA strike began last May.

“Yellowjackets” showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson and Jonathan Lisco gave an update on the status of Season 3 during a Q&a for SAG-AFTRA nomination committee members on Wednesday night.

The Yellowjackets will probably be literally hungry for quite some time, but the people who play them may not be for much longer, figuratively. The story itself follows the suburban family Joel (Timothy Olyphant), Shiela (Drew Barrymore), and their daughter Abby (Liv Hewson). When Shiela catches some sort of bug that totally changes her outlook on life, her family is left scrambling behind her to pick up the pieces (literally). The 2023 Emmy nominations are here. The slate of nominees include "Succession" (which aired its final season this spring), "Ted Lasso" (which also just wrapped up its last season), "Yellowjackets," and many more. And while there are some long-deserved Emmy nominations we're very excited about, there are also a lot of nominations that didn't happen, leaving viewers and fans surprised at these major misses. Ahead, these are the biggest snubs of the 2023 Emmy nominations.
Emmys Snub: The Cast of "House of the Dragon"
"House of the Dragon," the "Game of Thrones" prequel series that won fans' hearts last fall, was nominated for nine awards. None of them were for acting, despite a very strong ensemble. Most egregious in our eyes is the exclusion of Emma D'Arcy's leading performance as Rhaenyra Targaryen. D'Arcy's portrayal of the heir in an impossible position is full of nuance, pain, and tenderness. And if...

Nonbinary actor Liv Hewson, who stars as teen Vanessa “Van” Palmer in Yellowjackets, is opening up about why they still wouldn’t submit themselves for this year’s Emmy Awards after seeing two nonbinary actors win Tony Awards.
Earlier in June, J. Harrison Ghee and Alex Newell became the first openly nonbinary actors to win at the awards show that recognizes excellence in live Broadway theater. Ghee won the Tony for best lead actor in a musical for their performance in Some Like It Hot. Newell won best featured actor in a musical for their role in Shucked.
“To see and hear nonbinary people on stages like that, talking about themselves, loudly and explicitly and proudly, that’s incredible,” Hewson told Teen Vogue in an interview published online Wednesday. “I love it and I’m all about it.”
But, even after hearing their moving acceptance speeches, Hewson stands by their...

Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” has officially submitted 18 actors for Emmys consideration, and as part of the show’s campaign, the network has released several FYC posters for each character.
Melanie Lynskey, who earned a nomination last year for playing Shauna, will be joined by Tawny Cypress (Taissa), Juliette Lewis (Natalie) and Sophie Nélisse, who plays the teen version of Shauna, in outstanding lead actress.
Christina Ricci (Misty), Samantha Hanratty (Teen Misty), Courtney Eaton (Teen Lottie), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Teen Taissa), Lauren Ambrose (Adult Van), Sophie Thatcher (Teen Nat) and Simone Kessell (Adult Lottie) are among those vying for outstanding supporting actress. Both Eaton and Kessell are among the Aapi contenders. Should Kessell be recognized for her portrayal of Adult Lottie, she would be the first Pacific Islander to receive a nod in that category. Meanwhile, Kevin Alves (Teen Travis), Steven Krueger (Coach Ben), Elijah Wood (Walter) and Warren Kole (Jeff) will...

"We shouldn't have to change... No one should." Madman Films in Australia has unveiled an official trailer for a new animated movie called Scarygirl, based on an original idea by creator Nathan Jurevicius. This recently premiered at the 2023 Sydney Film Festival in Australia, hence why this new trailer is out now to follow up that debut. Arkie is an adopted 12-year-old girl, blind in one eye and with a tentacle-like arm, who lives on an isolated peninsula with her over-protective father Blister, a giant octopus. When her world is threatened by a loss of sunlight, a young girl must overcome her fears and journey to a fantastical city, save her father from a mysterious scientist and prevent the destruction of her planet. Starring Jillian Nguyen as the voice of Arkie, plus Sam Neill, Tim Minchin, Anna Torv, Liv Hewson, Mark Coles Smith, Deborah Mailman, and Dylan Alcott. Wow this looks way better than expected.

"Yellowjackets" was renewed for season three before the second season even premiered this spring, promising fans more chaos, cults, and cannibalism. Showtime confirmed season three in December 2022. The show's creators, Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, have planned for the story of the ill-fated New Jersey soccer champs to be told over the course of five seasons, so the next season will put the story over the halfway mark.
But when the third season will finally air is, unfortunately, a huge unknown thanks to the ongoing writers' strike. Back in March, Lyle and Nickerson told The Hollywood Reporter that they were trying to start writing the new season before the strike began. "The possibility of the strike is very real. All we can do is keep moving forward until we have to put our pencils down," Lyle said. She added that the writers' room would begin officially meeting in April.

When the 2023 Tony nominations were released on May 2, two nominees made history. "Shucked" star Alex Newell and "Some Like It Hot" star J. Harrison Ghee became the first openly nonbinary people to receive a nomination in the acting categories. But, the news comes with a little sting: the Tonys don't have gender neutral acting categories, so both Newell and Ghee are nominated in the "actor" category.
The call for gender neutral acting categories at major award shows has grown in recent years, thanks in large part to the increased visibility of nonbinary actors. "Yellowjackets" star Liv Hewson, who plays Teen Van on the show, told Variety in April that they wouldn't be submitting for the Emmys at all because of the show's gender-segregated categories.
"I don't want the limitations in terms of the language in the categories to be a reason that nonbinary actors like me can't be celebrated."

The Yellowjackets are currently on strike, but they’re going to return with something for fans to buzz about. A bonus episode of Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” is expected to premiere before Season 3 officially premieres, showrunner Ashley Lyle has said on Twitter.
Lyle, who created the series with her husband Bart Nickerson and co-showruns with him and Jonathan Lisco, revealed the news when responding to a fan’s tweet claiming they stayed up late in the hope that a surprise bonus episode would premiere on the Showtime app.
“Noooo. Go to bed! Get some rest!” Lyle tweeted in response to the fan account. “There will be a bonus episode between seasons, but I love you guys and I don’t want y’all to lose sleep thinking it’s tonight.”
When contacted by IndieWire, Showtime declined to comment on Lyle’s announcement.

It was Pride and Drag Queen picket day in Los Angeles, where around 300 people hit up Warner Bros. Discovery to highlight their issues as the strike marches into its second month.
The hundreds of writers attending the picket were provided glitter and stickers for their signs on the first day of Pride month. The event attracted the likes of Severance creator Dan Erickson to Yellowjackets star Liv Hewson.
“When queer writers are under attack,” chanted the crowd, “What do we do? Stand up, fight back.” Others added, “If we don’t get it, shut it down.”
Signs featured sayings such as “Protect All Queer Art” and “I’m Gay For Pay” as Whitney Houston’s I’m Every Woman blasted from a speaker system.

There are silly, insignificant "what if" games that one plays as a kid or even as an adult. I was not once asked what I would do if I were stranded in the wilderness or on an island. These "what if" questions become a harsh reality for the protagonists in Yellowjackets by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson. As Yellowjackets returns for a second season, the fan-favorite group of survivors wraps themselves in an even larger cocoon of lies and risky scenarios before reuniting at Lottie's cult for the vicious and trailblazing doozy of a finale. At the same time, things get dire for the soccer team in the wild as the winter comes and there is no food. Season 2 of Showtime's buzzy horror series "Yellowjackets" has delivered its share of surprises. We've witnessed heartbreaking deaths, teenage blackmail, musical dream sequences, and a devastating delivery. However, the most stunning development of all this season marks the survivors' long-awaited entry into the taboo world of cannibalism. The season begins with a starving Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) popping a severed ear into her mouth, followed by a moonlit feast of human flesh. Another gruesome act of cannibalism bookends the season in a thrilling finale featuring blood, fire, and a newly anointed Antler Queen.
After watching Javi (Luciano Leroux) die in the frozen lake, the girls bring his body back to camp and prepare for their next meal. Lottie (Courtney Eaton) descends from her sick bed and gives up control of the group, pointing to Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) as the next leader. The team signals their allegiance one by one, but her coronation joy is short-lived.

"The wilderness chose." For the characters of "Yellowjackets," this simple phrase is a means of equivocating, the way a person might gloss over something bad by saying, "It is what it is." In the show's flashback scenes, that means girls' soccer players hunting and cannibalizing their teammates in the wilderness where their plane has crashed. Some of them, like the adult Lottie (Simone Kessell), believe the wilderness is a dark force that follows them back to civilization and demands appeasement even in a place where cannibalism is no longer necessary for survival. Others, like Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), believe Lottie is crazy, and they have only themselves to blame for the continuing murder and mayhem in their lives.
Christina Ricci, for one, sees the wilderness as a convenient out for her character, Misty, as she deals with the guilt of having killed her best friend,...

Wouldn't it have been funny if this article was just me writing "Yes" and nothing else? Alas, I love, honor, and respect the "Yellowjackets" fandom hive too much than to write a joke post under such a provocative headline, and if you've followed me at all as a "Yj" recapper, you already know that I feel a kinship to Vanessa "Van" Palmer (Liv Hewson/Lauren Ambrose) in some eerily specific ways. Simply put, there was no way I wasn't going to meticulously dissect every last morsel left behind of the season 2 finale to try and get to the bottom of what the hell is going on with Van.
In the '90s timeline, Van has had a bit of a complicated journey. She was initially all-in on Lottie's woo-woo tree-worshipping magical thinking, but after Shauna's baby dies, she starts to approach things more realistically.

The opening scene of Netflix's "Yellowjackets" begins with one of the most haunting TV sequences in recent memory. A dark-haired girl in a nightgown runs through a frozen forest, looking scared for her life - and for good reason. As she runs, a pit opens up beneath her feet, and she falls in. The next frames show her limbs nailed to the ground with sticks, and then she's getting hung up by her feet and flayed while a bunch of people clad in animal skins look on. Eventually, after the girl's remains are placed in front of an antler-clad figure, the group devours her.
The specter of that scene haunts all of "Yellowjackets," which tells the story of a girls' soccer team who crash-land in a forest and are forced to survive there for 19 months. Interspersing that story with scenes set 25 years later - when...

One of the things we love most about the dark Showtime series “Yellowjackets” is all the fantastic ’90s music. Half of the show takes place in 1996, when high school girls’ soccer team crash lands in the wilderness and half is set 25 years later, with the still traumatized adult survivors.
Season 2 features an exclusive track by Florence + the Machine, an eerie cover of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl,” Sharon Van Etten’s “Seventeen,” and such ’90s feminist icons as Tori Amos.
And of course, we love the kind of creepy main title theme, “No Return,” by Craig Wedren and Anna Waronker. The opening credits from Season 1 teased some of the things we would see unfold, and the updated Season 2 credits sequence also gives us hints at what we’ll see in upcoming episodes.

Spoilers for "Yellowjackets" follow.
We've known since the "Yellowjackets" pilot that its leads, stranded in the Canadian wilderness during the late 1990s, would eventually resort to ritualistic hunting and cannibalism. The question is how? Season 1 consistently implied it would be the doing of Lottie Matthews (Courtney Eaton). Midway through the season, she began having visions and divining the will of the Wilderness itself.
The rest of the group increasingly turned to her for guidance. In "Doomcoming," Lottie wears a pair of antlers — foreshadowing the Antler Queen sitting at the head of the cannibals in the Pilot — and in the season finale, "Sic Transit Gloria Mundi," she kills a bear. The episode ends with her placing the bear's heart on an altar, with Van (Liv Hewson) and Misty (Samantha Hanratty) on either side as her disciples.
That finale is also when we learned Lottie was still alive in the present day...

At first blush, Showtime's hit series "Yellowjackets" seems like a natural fit for the modern TV landscape. It has a lot of the hallmarks that have made many other successes successful: a well-calibrated mix of established actors and exciting new talents lining the cast, a thematic preoccupation with trauma and the tricks of memory, muddy lighting design, a needle drop approach to music and a jukebox soundtrack, and more still.
But now that we've reached the dramatic second season finale, I can't help but linger on all the ways that its success is so atypical. In the sense that I'm using "success" and "successful," I'm not referring to viewership numbers (which are good) or critical opinion. I'm talking about fan reception. Specifically, the cultivation of one of the most active, rabid, engaged, and fiercely loyal fanbases in modern television, rivaled perhaps only by "Succession," but that's only a few days longer for this world.

Note: This story contains spoilers from the “Yellowjackets” Season 2 finale.
We knew Season 2 of “Yellowjackets” was building up to something big, but the finale of the addictive Showtime drama left us speechless.
Besides another cannibal feast, “Storytelling” featured Teen Van (Liv Hewson) spinning a fairy tale about the wilderness, Walter (Elijah Wood) crafting a narrative to get Misty (Christina Ricci) and Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) off the hook with the police — and a whole lot of heartache.
Here, in chronological order, are the most shocking things that happened in the final episode of Season 2:
Shauna carves up Javi’s body
We already knew that the wilderness had “chosen” Javi (Luciano Leroux) instead of Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) in the previous episode, but we still experienced the trauma of watching Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) carve up his dead body for the rest to feed on. While everyone shared in the grief, and the gruesome meal,...

“Yellowjackets” has returned, and if you thought things couldn’t get any more wild on the Showtime drama series, prepare to be proven wrong. Season 2 continues the bifurcated storylines of the titular soccer team stranded after a plane crash in the 1990s, and the grown-up survivors dealing with their past trauma in present day.
New revelations, expanded mythology and new characters permeate the new season as the story barrels forward, with Shauna, Taissa, Misty, Natalie all returning.
Elijah Wood joins the cast as Walter, a citizen detective, while Lauren Ambrose appears in Season 2 as the adult version of Van (played in the 1990s timeline by Liv Hewson) and Simone Kessell plays the adult version of Lottie (played in the ‘90s by Courtney Eaton).
The new season picks up pretty immediately after Season 1 left off, with the survivors dealing with a harsh winter and dwindling food supply back in 1996 while the...

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for Yellowjackets, Season 2 Episode 8, “It Chooses.”]
After a riveting first season filled with sonic callbacks to the ’90s, Season 2 of Showtime’s Yellowjackets kicked off with a similarly wistful tone, thanks to the new trailer, spotlighting Florence and the Machine’s cover of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl.”
Season 1 of the series took viewers back to 1996 when a young group of soccer players survives a plane crash and the aftermath forced the characters to deal with a string of psychologically unfortunate events. Considering when the story starts, music from the era is paramount to the series. So far, we’ve heard everything from Portishead’s “Glory Box” to “Rump Shaker” by Wreckx-n-Effect in the series, with Season 2 promising to keep that same energy while jumping in between timelines.
The ’90s part of the series shows Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Sammi Hanratty, Liv Hewson, and Courtney Eaton playing...

"Yellowjackets" season two has steadily been growing more gruesome, but it's also been providing fans with long-awaited answers - like how the girls resorted to cannibalism.
At the beginning of the season, fans were anxiously waiting to figure out the answer to another question: Whether Javi was alive after being missing for months. In episode four, the show revealed that Javi had survived, though it remains unclear exactly what he went through during his months in the wilderness. In episode eight, though, Javi's story unfortunately took a tragic turn.
To refresh your memory, Javi (Luciano Leroux) is the younger brother of Travis (Kevin Alves), and their dad was the Yellowjackets team's coach, who died in the plane crash. The brothers, plus Coach Ben (Steven Krueger), are the only men who survive the crash, which puts them in a strange place. Javi, because of his age, mostly evades the notice of the girls.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Yellowjackets Season 2 Episode 8 “It Chooses.”] We knew the Yellowjackets survivors did horrible things during their time in the wilderness… but somehow, the ending of “It Chooses” still managed to shock. In an intense, stomach-churning final sequence, a trembling Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) runs for her life from a howling pack of her teammates. She’d drawn the “human sacrifice” card fair and square, and the starving soccer players who never made it to Nationals demanded her flesh as sustenance. A sympathetic Javi (Luciano Leroux) offers Nat the safe place that allowed him to survive. They carefully run through the woods and over the frozen lake, only to be cornered by Shauna (Sophie Nelisse), Van (Liv Hewson), Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown), Misty (Samantha Hanratty), Akilah (Nia Sondaya), and Mari (Alexa Barajas). The ice cracks. Javi falls in. He screams for Natalie to help him, and while she tries at first, eventually the...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 2 Episode 8, “It Chooses.”]
“Does a hunt that have no violence feed anyone?”
That’s the question posed to Lottie (Simone Kessell) by her “therapist” — quickly revealed to be her subconscious — in “Yellowjackets” Season 2, Episode 7, the question whose answer and meaning reveal themselves in ghastly fashion in Episode 8, “It Chooses.” Not only are our survivors starved and delirious, but they now hunger as much for food as for fight to acquire it.
Directed by Daisy von Scherler Mayer and written by Sarah L. Thompson & Liz Phang, “It Chooses” is littered with indicators of everyone reaching the end of their tether during the bleak midwinter. There is hunger, there is starvation, and then there is whatever this is; exhaustion, blurred vision, hallucinations of blood spilling from the walls, cradling your pet mouse corpse and being tempted to take a bite out of his emaciated body. Only Nat (Sophie Thatcher) says it,...

“‘What this place wants from us is violence. I know what’s required from us,’ is what she’s thinking,” says Liv Hewson of their character, teenage Van, in this devastating eighth installment of Yellowjackets. In our latest episode of The Buzz on Yellowjackets (be sure to watch the whole thing!), Hewson tells us it was Van who came up with the idea to use the card-drawing ritual (already in place to assign chores) to randomly decide who the group would kill and eat. Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) pulls the designated death card (the Queen of Hearts that Javi [Luciano Leroux] found while he was alone in the wilderness). The others’ cards may hold meaning, too, but on a different level. Hewson says, “The cards that we pull are in the scripts. When we got there on the day and were planning how to film it, it was like ‘Ok, do...
