Can you believe it? 25 years of Hellboy? The comic's first San Diego Comic-Con outing was in 1993 (the con at that time occurred between August 19th-22nd), and to celebrate, Dark Horse Comics is pulling out all the stops, as the company has revealed three new Hellboy titles: Hellboy Winter Special 2018, Crimson Lotus, and Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: 1956:

Based on Neil Gaiman's graphic novel of the same name (which was illustrated by Gabriel Bá and Fábio Moon), How to Talk to Girls at Parties is teased in a new trailer from A24 that blends the punk scene of 1970s London with bizarre visitors from space:
"From the raucous dual imaginations of fantasy laureate Neil Gaiman (“American Gods,” Coraline) and glam-rock multi-hyphenate John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Shortbus) comes the electrifying and singular pop extravaganza film, How to Talk to Girls at Parties. Enn (Alex Sharp) is a shy suburban London teenager in 1977, sneaking out with his best friends to after-hours punk parties. One night they stumble upon a bizarre gathering of sexy teenagers who seem like they are from another planet. In fact, they are from another planet, visiting Earth to complete a mysterious rite of passage. That doesn’t stop Enn from falling...

Two Brothers
Written and drawn by Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá
Published by Dark Horse Comics
“Everything improves after the end of a war.”
Based off of the novel The Brothers by Brazilian novelist Milton Hatoum, Two Brothers charts the post-wwii life of a family as a continuing war fought not with guns and grenades, but with words and betrayal. Sometimes, it is a hot war, but most of the time it is a cold war that stretches all the way to twin brothers Yaqub and Omar’s childhood. Although they are physically twins, the two boys are nothing alike. “The twins were opposites inhabiting the same body and sleeping under the same roof,” the narrator explains. Yaqub, the brother sent away to Lebanon for five years, is the brooding and serious one, returning home without ever knowing why his parents sent him to live with relatives half a world away.

We asked our writers to recommend graphic novels that deserved more fanfare, and here's what they chose...
Geek tastes running tall and wide, when we asked our writers to recommend favourite books that they felt hadn't received the levels of popularity or public recognition they deserved, in came a heap of suggestions. Too many for one piece, hence us dividing the entries into four separate lists: adult sci-fi, fantasy and horror fiction; graphic novels; children's/Ya fiction; and non-fiction.
We'll let you use the power of your eyeballs to see which one of those lists you're currently reading. And in the spirit of the piece, hope you'll join in by providing your own suggestions to keep the recommendations coming in the comments section. Sharing: it's what makes geek communities great.

Casanova Acedia #2
Written by Matt Fraction
Art by Fábio Moon
Colors by Cris Peter
Lettering by Dustin K. Harbin
Back-up Story by Michael Chabon & Gabriel Ba
Published by Image Comics
Last time you checked in with Casanova: Acedia, you had the best guide possible: Jake, a man that’s followed the previous 3 Casanova volumes, knows the titular character, his backstory and lore. This time? Well, this time, you will be as curious and clueless as Mr. Quentin Cassiday.
The book opens with a flashback—a memory, even—brought about by an old photo showing a young Boutique and his fellow mercenaries? Soldiers of fortune? Spies? Who they are isn’t revealed but good money says Boutique knows, as he’s mid-reminiscing when Cassiday comes in post-library battle from the end of issue 1.
Cassiday isn’t any kind of fool—having been attacked twice, remembering things he has no way of knowing,...

First, some history: writer Scott Snyder had first envisioned the concept for American Vampire during a glut in the speculative fiction market, at a time when it was impossible to escape “sequels to Blade and Underworld and Queen of the Damned.” In an interview with Hans-Åke Lilja of Lilja’s Library, Snyder confessed to some frustration over this earlier incarnation of vampire: “All with that same look to them – the Matrix-style, sunglasses at night, leather trenchcoat, super-slick style, like they're going to some club that's too cool for you.” Snyder’s concept was to change the rules, develop an entirely new sort of vampire, a uniquely American species, as removed from the Old World vampires as possible. Vampires who can walk in the sun, for starters, or those that can be killed by ordinary means during the New Moon. Snyder and illustrator Rafael Albuquerque brought Stephen King along for the...

A bit more actual comics news has come out of the San Diego Comic-Con as Idw Publishing announced it is teaming up with writers Zane and Brea Grant (We Will Bury You, Suicide Girls) and artist EricJ (Rex Mundi, Fly) for their new creator-owned miniseries Let's Play God, coming this October.
From the Press Release:
When a mysterious killer begins targeting members of a fierce all-girl punk rock band, our hero Mel must face a dark, dangerous world of blood and evil to find the killer and save her own life!
“It’s like Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in the Pacific Northwest... but cooler,” Brea Grant said.
In the style of Italian slasher psycho-horror, Let’S Play God combines a punk spirit and kinetic art with a chilling storyline, promising a truly unique four-issue miniseries. After witnessing a murder, Mel finds her and her bandmates have now become targets of the killer.

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...
