Bill Maher caused a social media uproar after his HBO show “Real Time” Friday night when he said that abortion “doesn’t affect my life. I ain’t getting anybody pregnant,” while instead complaining about what does affect him — the shelving of Jamie Foxx and Shonda Rhimes projects because of sensitive race issues.
The conversation began with Maher telling his panelists — Washington Post op-ed columnist Catherine Rampell and Commentary Magazine’s Noah Rothman — that he didn’t care when televangelist Jerry Falwell claimed that the purple Teletubby was gay. “I’m not into the Teletubbies,” said Maher, who immediately flipped the subject. “Now? I want to see the Jamie Foxx movie. That affects my life.”
Foxx told CinemaBlend earlier this week that his 2016 film “All-Star Weekend” had been shelved because of some of its more outrageous characters, including Robert Downey Jr. as a Mexican man. “It’s been tough with...

The cartoon character Pogo by Walt Kelly is best remembered for his line, “We have met the enemy, and he is us.”
That sentiment was the underlying theme of Bill Maher’s Real Time on Friday, as the comedian and his guests explored the various ways that America remains divided, often by our own hand.
B.J. Novak of The Office was up first. His new film comedy, Vengeance, has undertones of the social struggles that divide America. Maher played up that angle, asking about the red state/blue state divide and how it’s possible to love those who don’t share your views.
What’s separating us, Novak said, is more about emotion than the argument. He suggested that we stop “picking at the scab” of the things we disagree about, and focus on comedy, sports, art, “or sitting down over dinner. That is a start.” He added, “There is no separating.

MSNBC contributor Noah Rothman didn’t get his Castros straight in an interview today on Morning Joe.
On live TV, Rothman asked Rep. Joaquin Castro about a Fox News town hall statement. “Congressman, I wanted to ask you briefly — you had said on a Fox News town hall that it is your impression that this administration is ‘hell-bent on moving towards war with Iran,'” Rothman said.
But it wasn’t Joaquin Castro who made the statement. It was Julian Castro, his twin brother.
“Well, the first thing is, I have to correct you,” Joaquin Castro said. “The person who did the Fox News town hall was my brother, Julián, who is running for president. I’m here in the Congress.”
Rothman immediately apologized, adding, “But I’m sure that’s not the first time this has happened.”
Castro was gracious. He told Rothman not to worry and added that it “literally happens everyday.

Exclusive: 20th Century Fox has acquired an untitled pitch that will be built around the Electronic Dance Music craze, and will involve one of its biggest stars, Diplo. The film will be written by Adam Weinstock and Andy Jones, and Underground’s Trevor Engelson is producing. Noah Rothman is exec producer. Underground is teamed with Diplo and his business partner Kevin Kusatsu, both of whom are exec producers. The pic’s described as 8 Mile meets Project X in tone, as three teens try to get into Diplo’s Electronic Music Festival. Weinstock and Jones are represented by CAA and Underground. Edm, which I gather is a cousin to rave music, is a huge industry where the DJs are the big stars. Hollywood is waking up to its appeal, and this becomes one of several films to take root with Edm as its backdrop.

Dennis joins managers Engelson, Evan Silverberg and Josh Turner McGuire in the La office and Noah Rothman who recently joined the company’s NYC office.
