"Have you seen something strange in the sky these days?" They're coming, they're invading! Bubbles, giant white bouncing bubbles! Batten down the hatches, get the defense system ready. This amusing three minute sci-fi mashup is the latest creation from French filmmaker / editor Fabrice Mathieu (we also posted his In the Shadow noir short a month ago). Attack of the Giant Bubbles is a cinema mashup short film using the white bubbles from the 60s TV series The Prisoner and some footage from classic sci-fi films including: Forbidden Planet, Mars Attacks!, Moonraker, Space: 1999, Thunderbirds are Go. It also has a kind of Independence Day vibe. Just another fun video made by Fabrice - makes me want to watch all these. // Continue Reading ›...

"My hands were always dirty. They were soaked daily in the unnameable... Who was the obscure being in this story?" Another must watch short film creation from French filmmaker / editor Fabrice Mathieu. His latest is In the Shadow (also titled Dans l'ombre in French), a clever mash-up of film noir B&W footage to create an intriguing story about a shadow escaping his "wearer" in a city full of mystery and darkness. "A shadow is telling its life story with his 'Wearer', a flesh & bone double, who one day it decides to get rid of..." This is a proof-of-concept pitch made entirely from existing footage from more than 60 movies showing the most beautiful shadows in cinema history, from Nosferatu to Sin City to The Third Man, and everything else in-between. It's narrated from the shadow's Pov. This is so mesmerizing! Another great film from Fabrice. // Continue Reading ›...

We have a special video to share from the Paranormal Network YouTube channel today. It’s not part of any of the on-going series that are released through the YouTube channel, but it is connected to at least one of them. In the embed above, we have the award-winning sci-fi short film Fire Sky Creek, which was written and directed by Taylor James Johnson. And if you subscribe to the Paranormal Network, you’ll know Taylor James Johnson as the host of That Bigfoot Show!
Johnson made Fire Sky Creek as part of the 48 Hour Film Project San Antonio 2022. For this event, “All teams are given only 48 hours to make a short film and must feature the same prop, line & character. Yet each team are assigned different genres and this lucky team got Sci-Fi!” To see what Johnson and his cast and crew were able to do in just 48 hours,...

Cinemas is back! We've been featuring movie mash-ups for years now, including end-of-the-year recaps and video essays. But this is something new! French filmmaker Fabrice Mathieu (also of Darth by Darthwest) has created another new "tribute to cinema" titled The End, a 6-minute mash-up of footage from hundreds of different movies. Fabrice edited together over 500 different movie gifs to create this mesmerizing journey through the world of cinema - from the early days until today. "In 2020, the world stood still... in the movies too: made with movies gifs with a perfect loop, more than 500!" The best part about this is that it is more than just another fun mash-up – you can spot all the references and influences as they carry on throughout film history. Scenes and setups and shots that connect through time are seen in the same frame. Gorgeous. Thanks to Fabrice for the tip on this. Official description...

Where do you go once you die? The eternally unanswerable question. But here's one funky interpretation! Memorium (also known as Mémoires Vives) is a French short film made by filmmaker Fabrice Mathieu. Inspired by the art created by Marc Giai-Miniet, the film follows the journey of a man into the afterlife. What does he experience on the other side...? Watch and find out. At least 90% of the film was made using miniatures and "boxes" created by Marc. Only the first scene in the hospital was a real set. "We built the lift, the small boat and the mine car for the actor, and we shot everything with a green screen," Fabrice explains. Starring Philippe Giai-Miniet, nephew of Marc Giai-Miniet, as "the man". This short looks and feels a bit strange, but that's why it's so cool. It's also always fascinating to see films made with miniatures, and to see how...

Uh oh! What if all the Terminators got mixed up and were sent back in time and started hunting each other? That's the concept for this short film / fan mashup titled Ts: Terminators. Made by French filmmaker Fabrice Mathieu, he combines footage from all of the Terminator movies to create a brand new short about T-800s targeting each other. His "tribute to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Terminator." It is impressive, the footage all syncs up and works together in just the right way to make this entertaining and thrilling to watch. It's cool that someone can take all kinds of existing footage and mash it up in a creative way to make something new, a great example of how editing matters so much making movies. Fire it up below and enjoy. Thanks to Fabrice for the tip on this. Original description from Vimeo: "Several T-800 are sent back in time by Skynet.

Here’s a fun little fake fan-made documentary by French filmmaker Fabrice Mathieu that imagines what it would have been been like if Stanley Kubrick really did direct the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing, which is what a lot of conspiracy theorists believe.
The video was made combining footage from the Apollo 11 mission with several Stanley Kubrick interviews and this is the little caption that came along withe the video:
Behind the scenes of the Moon Landing of Apollo 11 directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1969.
Document classified Top Secret since 50 years… until now.

I’ve got a fan made short film for you to watch today called Mib: Men in Blue. It’s the Blues Brothers and Men In Black mashup film that you didn’t know you wanted! This thing turned out to be unexpectedly awesome and you have to watch it!
The Blues Brothers are back… as Men In Black! Agent J of the Mib is in prison. He swindled Aliens while on the job. Today he is released for a new mission. The Aliens are waiting for him!
This was cut together so freakin’ well! It was created by Fabrice Mathieu and it’s seriously super impressive work. I’m pretty sure that you’re all gonna love this!
Also, there is footage from a few other classic sci-fi films in it that you’re going to get a kick out of. I don’t want to spoil the fun,...

Hz Hollywood Zombies comes from the mind of Fabrice Mathieu. It features clips from dozens of movies where all the stars become zombies. This typically means they turn green, but there are some that look like some extra work was put in for those characters. Some of the stars include Scarlett Johanssen, Christian Bale, Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, and more. Overall, my favorite part is the guttural screams that come towards the end. Here’s the official description of Hz:
Which Movie Star would you like to be eaten by? A meteor strikes Hollywood! All the actors and actresses are contaminated and become... Zombies!

The requirements for a successful movie mashup really depend on the ultimate goal of the one doing the mashing. Maybe you’re looking to prove two different movies are actually the same movie, so you match them up beat-for-beat like this Avatar/Pocahontas mashup. Maybe you’re aiming for maximum comedic effect, so you pick movies from opposing sides of the quality and genre spectrum, like The Wizard Of Oz and You Got Served. Or maybe you just realized Harrison Ford was in two movie franchises and figured that’s a good enough reason to edit them together.
That seemed to be enough for French filmmaker Fabrice Mathieu, the creator of “Raiders Of The Lost Darth,” a mashup of (you guessed it) the opening scene from Raiders Of The Lost Ark and various aspects of the Star Wars franchise. The resulting six-minute short oscillates between convincingly cool and glaringly absurd...

George Lucas and Alfred Hitchcock might not have much in common, but that didn’t stop Fabrice Mathieu from concocting the brilliant homage “Darth by Darthwest.”
A mash-up of Hitchcock’s classic 1959 movie “North By Northwest” and Lucas’ “Star Wars,” this six-minute film tries to blend the iconic Star Wars imagery we’re all familiar with — most notably a Tie Fighter, C-3Po and the Millennium Falcon — with the now-iconic scene of Cary Grant’s Roger O.

Gt reader Fabrice Mathieu sent us an awesome new mashup video that he created called "Raiders of the Lost Dark." It mashes together Star Wars and Indiana Jones in the most fun and inventive ways. It's actually really quite impressive, and it has a unique flavor to it. It's not like most mashups you see. It's pretty funny to watch Jones being attacked by a bunch of Ewoks! The video features footage from films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars Episodes IV, V, VI, VII, and Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure. I think you're going to get a kick out of this.

Take one of the most iconic sequences in not just all of Alfred Hitchcock's work but cinema in general - the crop duster scene from "North by Northwest," and then incorporate a bunch of "Star Wars" elements? It's an idea that shouldn't really work, but Vimeo user Fabrice Mathieu has crafted something so weird and wacky that it's actually kind of fun. Check out the fan film below:...

Why Watch? More than just a compilation of movie scenes and a narrator who’s seen better, whiskey-filled days, this intriguing film noir from Fabrice Mathieu is a conceptual curiosity. It abstractly tells the story from the perspective of a Shadow who has decided to get rid of its “Wearer” – the meat doll it’s attached to – and Mathieu uses shots of shadows from other films to get the job done. At once, it functions as its own dark animal and as a movie fan’s slideshow through great works. The copyright infringement necessary is…undoubted…but the final product is something mysteriously engaging. What will it cost? Only 8 minutes. Skip Work. You’ve got Time For More Short Films...
