Every year numerous films are overlooked, underrated, and lost in the shuffle. 2023 was no exception. Several sci-fi movies with merit failed to garner attention, find an audience, or receive a fair appraisal. Such outcomes can be attributed to market saturation with similar themes and concepts, exemplified by this year's surplus of films centered around AI or featuring talented actors who lack significant box office appeal. Alternatively, a film may be flawed, resulting in mixed reviews and audience reactions, yet still possessing commendable qualities.
For the purposes of this list, "underrated" refers to sci-fi films that received relatively mixed or poor responses from both critics and audiences, with a focus on those that lacked significant attention or acclaim. We'll review the notable qualities of these films and explore the reasons behind their inadequate recognition, whether it's one of Marvel's unfairly maligned sequels or a quirky, futuristic sci-fi spin on conceiving a child,...

No one in director Jake Van Wagoner and writer Austin Everett’s creative community were left out in the making of this heartwarming Sundance film.
You know how you can’t just call some people by their first name, you have to say their full names? “Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out” is a movie title so good, it’s practically mandatory to say all 11 words.

Will Forte is one of the most reliable names in comedy. Whether it's leading the absurd action of "MacGruber," lending his voice to animated comedy in the likes of "Rick and Morty" and "The Simpsons," or bringing to life various incarnations of Abraham Lincoln in "Clone High," "The Lego Movie," and "America: The Motion Picture," you can always count on Forte to inspire plenty of hilarity. But there's also a gentle charm to his presence when he's not driving the comedy bus. That's what makes him the perfect choice to play a father in the Sundance-selected family comedy "Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out."
Directed by Jake Van Wagoner, the film follows teen girl Itsy Levan, who finds herself suddenly stuck in the middle of nowhere after her home-flipping parents move their family out of the big city. At her new school, Itsy meets the quirky but intelligent Calvin Kipler,...

"If anything, he's the smartest person in this stupid town." Visit Films has revealed an official trailer for the indie sci-fi comedy titled Aliens Abducted My Parents And Now I Feel Kinda Left Out. How's that for a film name! Did it get your attention? This just premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival playing in the "Kids" section of the fest, and it's still seeking a distribution deal. Miserable after her family moves to a small town, a teenage aspiring journalist named Itsy befriends Calvin, her strange, space-obsessed neighbor who believes his parents were abducted by aliens, and joins him on his journey to find them. As an up-and-coming journalist, Itsy decides to write an exposé, but she discovers much more about him. It stars Emma Tremblay, Jacob Buster, Will Forte, Elizabeth Mitchell, Kenneth Cummins, and Matt Biedel. I'm curious to see this! I like the trailer, there's some good lines in here.

“Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out” is one of those great long titles that rarely ends up connected to a great movie, long or otherwise. For every “The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain” (genuinely good) there’s always a handful of “The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies” (genuinely bad) ruining the loquacious fun for everybody.
“Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out” is the latest film from director Jake Van Wagoner, starring Emma Tremblay (“Supergirl”) as Itsy Levan, one of those teenagers in movies who moves from the big city to the small town while wearing headphones in the backseat of her parents car because, like, “life,” you know? Sundance is kicking into high gear in Park City, Utah this week, and as it does, the rest of the world is getting a first look at the lineup as trailers for a few of the films included in the festival begin to drop. Among them is "Aliens Abducted My Parents And Now I Feel Kinda Left Out," a family-friendly movie with a title that's both a total mouthful and immediately intriguing.
"Aliens Abducted My Parents And Now I Feel Kinda Left Out" is set to premiere at the festival as one of a small handful of films in the kid-friendly section, but it doesn't look so much like a kids' movie as it does like a sweet coming-of-age indie film with a sci-fi twist. The trailer opens with a bespectacled boy stargazing with his dad (Will Forte), who tells him that an alien family could be out there looking at them right now.

We have an insane trailer for you to check out that looks very much in the same vein as Silence of the Lambs and Se7en. It’s a serial killer movie that isn’t all about finding the killer, so much as unraveling the murders he has committed and the ones he has already put in motion. Henry Cavill, Alexandria Daddario, and Ben Kingsley are the police trying to stop him, and David Raymond is behind the camera making his directorial debut. The all-star cast also includes Stanley Tucci, Minka Kelly, Nathan Fillion, Sara Thompson, Eliana Jones, Emma Tremblay, Brendan Fletcher, and Mpho Koaho.
Here’s the official synopsis for the film:
Henry Cavill stars in this action-packed thrill ride that will shock you at every turn. When police detective Marshall (Cavill) and local vigilante Cooper (Ben Kingsley) arrest a serial killer targeting women, they discover his game has just begun.

"I'm not surprised by what you're up against." Saban Films has released an official Us trailer for the dark crime thriller Night Hunter, also known as just Nomis for the international release. The film is about a detective and the police who get "caught up in a dangerous scheme involving a recently arrested, troubled man who's linked to years of female abductions and murders." We ran an international trailer a few months ago, and this new Us trailer is pretty much the same with more quotes. This features quite an impressive ensemble: Ben Kingsley, Alexandra Daddario, Henry Cavill, Minka Kelly, Stanley Tucci, Nathan Fillion, Sara Thompson, Eliana Jones, Emma Tremblay, Brendan Fletcher, and Mpho Koaho. Described as "a pulse-pounding thriller where the only way out is through the mind of a killer... Tick-tock." Sexual assault may be a point of intense, eye-opening conversation in the country right now, but it’s also still the bread and butter of exploitative junk like “Nomis,” writer-director David Raymond’s debut feature starring Henry Cavill as a brooding Minnesota-by-way-of-the-uk cop on the hunt for a powerful, elusive, serial kidnapper-rapist-murderer.
Jittery and nonsensical, it juggles its influences — “The Silence of the Lambs,” “Seven,” television procedurals — with oily hands and a distracted focus.
Opening with a nervy nighttime chase through snowy woods in which a crying, barely-clad young woman is running from something hellish, and followed by a domestic exchange in which Cavill’s divorced dad lawman schools his online-addicted 13-year-old daughter in how to tell who might be a social-media-finessing creep (no friends in the photos), the movie primes us to believe “Nomis” might be an engaged thriller for our distressed but increasingly awakened times.

There is so much to like about the CW’s Supergirl that you want it to be brilliant, entertaining, and empowering for its young female viewers. That it is such a muddled mess more often than not spoils that because you admire their intentions and scratch your head at how the execution too often misses the mark.
Out tomorrow is Supergirl the Complete Third Season on Blu-ray with a Digital HD code from Warner Home Entertainment. The four-disc set contains all 23 episodes including all four episodes of the “Crisis on Earth-x” crossover with Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow.
We start the season with Odette Annable’s Sam, newly arrived in National City with her young daughter Ruby (Emma Tremblay). They’re in the wrong place at the wrong time when an accident happens and we see Sam affected and over the course of the season’s first third, we watch her become a villain.

Now that Supergirl‘s current season is winding down, it stands to reason the producers are formulating ideas as to how the story may continue next year. In the past, they dropped hints in the closing minutes of finales, but some new information being brought to light causes us to suspect that they’re gradually building toward a massive shakeup to the status quo.
Before proceeding any further, let’s take a look at the official synopsis for “Dark Side of the Moon”:
Supergirl Learns A Stunning Secret About Krypton – Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) is stunned to discover that a part of Krypton survived. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) is attacked while out with Ruby (guest star Emma Tremblay), and Lena (Katie McGrath) considers how far she will go to keep Reign contained. Hanelle Culpepper directed the episode written by Derek Simon & Katie Rose Rogers (#320). Original airdate 5/28/2018.

Even as someone who keeps up with all of the Arrowverse shows, I admit that it’s been kind of hard to get back into the groove when watching Supergirl. I say that because after the series returned from midseason hiatus, it went off air for another two months after only four episodes. Having established that, it’s only natural that it take some time for all the little things to come back to viewers once things pick back up.
So, while it may require a moment to remember the budding romance between James Olsen and Lena Luthor, it’s much, much harder to forget this season’s chief antagonist, that being Reign. She hasn’t been too prominent in the past few weeks, as Sam’s been under quarantine at L-Corp, but there’s the looming certainty that all hell will soon break loose.

After what felt like an eternity, Supergirl has finally returned from its winter hiatus. Sure, it’ll be forced into hibernation again in a matter of weeks, but let’s just enjoy seeing the Girl of Steel while we can, shall we?
To say that a lot went down in last night’s midseason premiere is an understatement. Not only did the Legion of Super-Heroes – Mon-El, Saturn Girl and Brainiac 5, in this case – come together for the first time on this particular series, but Reign continued handing anyone who had the guts to take her on their respective asses, effectively proving that she’s easily one of the Arrowverse’s most powerful villains to date.
Luckily for everyone, the Maiden of Might showed up just in time to help balance the scales in the favor of good, thus forcing the Worldkiller to retreat and lick her wounds. Still, this war is far,...

Even with an extended hiatus looming, it sure does look like Supergirl will squeeze in a fair amount of memorable moments within the four episodes set to air over the next few weeks. For starters, the Legion of Super-Heroes will be making their presence known in the midseason premiere itself.
So far, the network has been slowly pulling back the curtain on each individual member of one of DC’s oldest and most beloved super teams. Just last week, for instance, we got our first look at Brainiac 5 and, yesterday, we finally saw Mon-El donning some heroic threads.
Normally, the Arrowverse costuming department does a pretty fine job, but the online reaction to how the Legion is thus far appearing has been met with some consternation. While Smallville‘s iteration of the team was a bit more casual in appearance, they were recognizable as those characters. Supergirl‘s take,...

To this point, Supergirl season 3 has proven to be a different beast from its predecessor. Last year, we were given a science fiction tour de force as the series fully embraced its comic book roots, often feeling like a live action answer to Superman: The Animated Series. This time, however, the focus has been placed more on drama, perhaps in an effort to keep the show’s budget in check.
Regardless, the back half of this season will still mine the DC well as much as possible, for we know that the Legion of Super-Heroes are set to make an impact upon the show’s return from hiatus. And, with that, Mon-El will finally suit up – only his costume isn’t quite accurate to the source material.
As you can see in the accompanying gallery, the network has offered up two new posters of the Daxamite: One providing a look at his new threads,...

Meet Samantha. Samantha is going to be your next Supergirl big bad. Only thing is Samantha doesn't know it yet. Fans of the CW superhero series got their first taste of Sam (played by new series regular Odette Annable) in the season three premiere, when she and her daughter Ruby (Emma Tremblay) attended the disastrous dedication of the new Supergirl statue in National City. After Edge's attack on the waterfront left Ruby underneath a massive steel beam, we got a hint of Sam's true nature when, in her total panic, she lifted the beam right off her daughter. And as this sneak peek of the new episode, exclusive to E! News, proves, Ruby's looking for some answers. "Did anybody help you...

After being forced to endure the long summer hiatus, we can now rest easy as each of our favorite DC shows have finally returned with a round of spectacular premieres. And now that the fall season is in full swing, we continue looking ahead, this time at episodes of Supergirl and Arrow set to air during Halloween week.
First, on Monday, October 30, Supergirl begins charting what’ll be surely be a strange journey for Odette Annable’s character of Samantha. Casually introduced to us in the season 3 premiere, we know that the seemingly average woman will go on to become Reign, this year’s big bad. Truth be told, the unassuming villain is something we’ve yet to see from this series, so we could have some great television ahead of us.
Continuing on that note, we also can’t help but draw parallels to Smallville‘s Davis Bloome, who was played by Sam Witwer.
