“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is twirling offstage and “The Crown” finally got to The Revenge Dress, so it has not exactly been a low-key television season when it comes to costuming. (Not to mention the genius Easter eggs hidden in Tanya’s costumes on “The White Lotus.”) But no one is surprised when shows with fabulous costumes continue to exhibit their skill at crafting fabulous costumes that serve as eye candy and character development. Here are five series that premiered during the 2022-2023 season that deserve attention from the 2023 Emmys for their costumes.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Mayfair Witches Season 1 Episode 8 finale, “What Rough Beast.”] Mayfair Witches Season 1 has come to a close at AMC and AMC+, and the finale answered the season-long questions while teeing the narrative up for its impending second season. Alexandra Daddario‘s Rowan went through the wringer to learn the full truth of her place in the family prophecy. And through some key reveals, we learned who the real bad actors of the plot were all along. “What Rough Beast” began with Rowan still bleeding from her Episode 7 gunshot wound. She avenged Tessa’s (Madison Wolfe) murder with Lasher’s (Jack Huston) help, and in the aftermath, he took her into the memory world previously seen via Ciprien (Tongayi Chirisa). Her body laid defenseless in the woods, and Uncle Cortland (Harry Hamlin) took her body to the Mayfair mausoleum to prepare her for “the witching hour.” Alfonso Bresciani/AMC After learning his...

The only surprising thing about AMC’s announcement was that it took so long to confirm Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches has been renewed for season two. The popular supernatural series has been a hit on both AMC and AMC+, and its first season is now the most viewed on AMC+ over its first 30 days (per AMC Networks). That’s pretty impressive when you consider it was up against the final season of The Walking Dead.
Season one, which currently airs on Sundays at 9pm Et/Pt, is ranked in the top 10 cable dramas of 2022-2023. Filming on season two is expected to kick off later this year in New Orleans.

Mayfair Witches Season 1 only has two episodes out, but as the mysteries of the Mayfair family continue to build, more questions arise about how the season could end. Ciprien Grieve actor Tongayi Chirisa and Cortland Mayfair actor Harry Hamlin sat down with TV Insider and TV Guide Magazine’s Damian Holbrook during The Television Critics Association 2023 Winter Press Tour. And in the video interview above, Chirisa and Hamlin tease the “roller coaster” ride that is the back half of the AMC drama. Ciprien (Cip) uses his empathic powers for the Talamasca, a magical agency tasked with protecting supernatural beings from supernatural threats. He’s been assigned to protect Rowan Fielding (Alexandra Daddario), but as seen in Episode 2 (streaming now on AMC+), he’s not afraid to break the rules of engagement with those under the Talamasca’s watchful eye. Alfonso Bresciani/AMC Hamlin tells us that Cortland believes the Mayfairs work well with the agency,...

Editor’s Note: This Interview with the Vampire review covers only the show’s premiere episode.
AMC’s playful look at the gothic, gory world of the infamous vampire Lestat hits a healthy artery that feels like it can keep its pulse beating for years.
“There’s a simple answer to that, but I don’t believe that I want to give simple answers. I want to tell the real story.”
It’s only a few minutes into Interview with the Vampire that a character prompts another for the real story. Vampires are a supernatural creature that have fueled stories for centuries, but many modern examinations of the undead attempt to present the real story and finally uncover a level of truth and realism that’s previously been absent in the genre. In most cases, this “realism” comes across as hackneyed, or even worse, increasingly derivative of past ideas until...

The third season of AMC's Preacher may have taken place primarily at Gran'ma's house in Angelville (aka Hell on Earth to Jesse Custer), but it also once again took viewers around the world on a heady examination of family ties, violent faith, and fiery friendship. Following the season 3 finale, AMC released two behind-the-scenes videos that take a look back at the latest season in the adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's cult comic book series.
We'll have to wait and see if Preacher is renewed for a fourth season by AMC, but in the meantime, you can take a look back at the third season in the new videos below.
From the Press Release: "Preacher," is a dramatic thrill ride that follows West Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip (Academy Award® nominee Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun...

Freeform’s “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” makes some significant changes to the superhero story as it was told in the comics, giving the series a much-needed update for 2018.
“When I was a kid and opened up my ‘Spectacular Spider-Man’ and saw these two people that didn’t look like me at all, I loved it,” showrunner Joe Pokaski said in an interview with TheWrap. “But for something that was so progressive in the time, it needed a little bit of an update for the now.”
In the original series, Tandy and Tyrone are a vigilante superhero duo — a young white woman from a fabulously wealthy family who wields daggers made of light, and a black man from the Bronx who literally consumes people with his darkness. In the 1980s, the characters marked a big step forward for representation in the Marvel library, but in hindsight, the series’s tone-deaf take...
