Continuing the naked dress look favored by red-carpet stars in the last year, Miley Cyrus made a major impression on the red carpet for the 2024 Grammys.
The “Flowers” and “Used to Be Young” singer, nominated for six 2024 Grammy Awards, arrived for the show at downtown Los Angeles’ Crypto.com arena wearing a see-through, net-like dress made of 14,000 gold safety pins. Arranged geometrically, the pins created a sort of cone bra effect of two circles up top as well as a thong-like shape below. The look is a custom creation by designer John Galliano for Maison Margiela, the once-cancelled, now-resurgent fashion genius who is the subject of an upcoming documentary, High & Low, debuting in March. His recent Maison Margiela couture show has been a subject of fascination ever since it was presented on Jan. 25, from its decadent Parisian looks to the porcelain-doll makeup created by Pat McGrath.

The artist of the year nominee tweeted, “My stylist: How much fabric do you wanna wear? Me: Yes.”
Indeed, if there’s one element to MTV award evenings that is always appreciated (especially when compared to the relative safety of other current trophy ceremonies) it’s the fearlessness with which the stars and performers approach their fashion choices. The limited series “Halston” premiered on May 14 of this year, but the period drama about the fashion icon of the same name was more than two decades in the making. Series director Daniel Minahan first read a biography of the famed designer in 1996 and felt that it needed a film treatment. After multiple failed attempts to bring the project to fruition, he teamed with Killer Films co-founder Christine Vachon and superstar producer Ryan Murphy and the series found a home on Netflix.
“Halston” stars Ewan McGregor in the title role. The Iowa- born Halston first came to prominence designing high-end hats for women. After one of his hats is worn by Jackie Kennedy, Halston becomes a giant in the fashion industry, creating everything from designer gowns, to luggage and even perfume. The series is set against the backdrop of the New York party scene of the 1970s, replete with cocaine-fueled...

It took some 20 years for Dan Minahan to bring the influential but ultimately tragic life of fashion designer Roy Halston to the small screen. The executive producer/director of Netflix’s five-part series “Halston,” Minahan initially thought he would do a feature film version of the designer who came to fame in 1961 designing the pillbox Jackie Kennedy wore for the inauguration and then transformed fashion and Bff Liza Minnelli when he created the evocative, colorful costumes for her 1972 special “Liza With A Z.” But he developed a cocaine habit and spent his nights at Studio 54; his world collapsed in the 1980s.
During a Deadline Zoom conversation, Minahan soon realized Halston’s story didn’t fit into a 90-minute script. “I think the world had to kind of catch up on this story,” he noted. “When we decided that would make it a five-hour limited series, it gave us the time...

(Some light spoilers ahead for the fourth episode of the Netflix series “Halston”)
The life of Roy Halston Frowick, better known simply as Halston, was not boring. That simply is not a word you could accurately throw around about anybody who was super rich and frequented Studio 54 during its brief reign of glory in New York in the late 1970s.
As we see in numerous scenes on “Halston” — as well, of course, from the many, many stories that folks have shared about it over the past four decades — that place was crazy. An absolute madhouse of debauchery. And certainly too chaotic to last.
Halston himself (Ewan McGregor) was a well known Studio 54 attendee in real life, partying there as often as he could, and the show reflects that — he, Victor Hugo (Gian Franco Rodriguez), Liza Minnelli (Krysta Rodriguez), Elsa Peretti (Rebecca Dayan) and Joe Eula (David Pittu) go there all the time,...

In the early days of his career, fashion designer Halston developed a close relationship with another one of the greats: Elsa Peretti, the iconic Italian jewelry designer. In Ryan Murphy's Halston, Rebecca Dayan portrays the legendary jeweler, who first came up in the fashion world as one of Halston's models and best friends in the Studio 54 disco scene. Peretti collaborated with Halston extensively, helping him design his first iconic perfume bottle and creating trinkets for him. Eventually, Tiffany & Co. discovered her work and gave her the position of an in-house designer - not too long later, her rapport with Halston unfortunately broke down, as we see on the miniseries.
Peretti recently passed away on March 18, but her legacy in jewelry design will always be remembered. Do Dayan's style and appearance on Halston match the real-life designer's? Scroll ahead for photos of Peretti and see for yourself.

Netflix's Halston unpacks the titular fashion designer's colorful life story throughout the highlights of his illustrious career. The miniseries, which stars Ewan McGregor as the icon, especially sheds a light on Halston's drug habit, which many in his inner circle believed to be an addiction at his height in the '70s. In Halston, he's first tentative about drug use, admonishing his assistant for taking speed. But by episode two, Halston's hookups start to become drug-laced affairs. But which ones did he take, exactly? While the men who offer Halston drugs never directly name the substance, it's very likely cocaine.
Along with using cigarettes, joints, and drinks, the real Halston also snorted cocaine regularly after trying it during his summers on Fire Island. He was known to frequent a famous club called Studio 54, where drug-fueled parties unraveled as the designer hung out with big names such as Liza Minnelli,...

After a take on the assassination of Gianni Versace, executive producer Ryan Murphy is back to tell the story of another groundbreaking fashion designer: Halston. Born Roy Halston Frowick, the sartorial legend first made waves after designing the famous pillbox hat worn by First Lady Jackie Kennedy. In the '70s, he carved out a name for himself by pushing out clean, minimal designs for Ultrasuede shirtdresses and airy caftans. As he befriended legends such as jewelry designer Elsa Peretti and performer Liza Minnelli, he spent much of his early days of fame at a colorful disco nightclub called Studio 54. Halston's legendary name, reputation, and friendships often preceded Halston the person, so what did Halston actually look like?

Fashion designer Halston’s tie-dye collection first dropped in the late 1960s. Silk chiffon was draped over the body and revolutionized fashion as stylish New Yorkers and celebrities such as Anjelica Huston donned the iconic couturier’s caftans.
That collection is one of the looks that’s faithfully re-created by costume designer Jeriana San Juan in the Netflix miniseries written by Ryan Murphy and starring Ewan McGregor in the title role.

The family of late fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick, professionally known as Halston, has issued a statement against Netflix’s upcoming series based on his life, calling it “inaccurate” and “fictionalized.”
“The Halston Archives and Family were not consulted on the upcoming Netflix series involving an inaccurate, fictionalized account of famed fashion designer, ‘Halston,'” the family said in a statement to the Associated Press. “The Halston Archives remains the only definitive and comprehensive source on the man and his legacy as the personally appointed custodian of his private papers and effects.”
Lesley Frowick, director of the Halston Archives and Halston’s niece, told Variety that the family was “never contacted” about the series, and were “collectively disappointed” by its production.

You don't have to know much about Halston to appreciate that Netflix's limited series about him is going to be wild. Billed as the "untold story" behind the American fashion designer's success, Halston looks bold, backstabby, and filled with the kind of drama that'll make you put aside all your other shows for a binge. Ewan McGregor is playing Halston, and he's joined by a gigantic cast of names: Krysta Rodriguez as Liza Minnelli, Rebecca Dayan as Elsa Peretti, Bill Pullman as David Mahoney, Gian Franco Rodriguez as Victor Hugo, David Pittu as Joe Eula, Sullivan Jones as Ed Austin, Rory Culkin as Joel Schumacher, Kelly Bishop as Eleanor Lambert, and Vera Farmiga as Adele. While Ryan Murphy is (of course) an executive producer, the series is directed by his frequent collaborator Daniel Minahan, who has directed episodes of everything from Grey's Anatomy to Game of Thrones.

“Halston for your today. Halston for your every day. Halston for your world”
Netflix dropped the trailer for Ryan Murphy’s limited series “Halston” starring Ewan McGregor in the title role of the iconic fashion designer. And seeing as the five-episode show is about how Halston became Halston, it’s only appropriate that this sneak peek begin with McGregor uttering these lines: “I have a vision. I’m going to change the face of American fashion.”
Set to Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence,” the rest of the 2-minute, 27-second trailer introduces us to Murphy’s take on Halston through his bold choices in both his career and his personal life.
“I’d been an outsider my whole life, until one day I just stopped giving a flying f—,” Halston says in a voiceover, as he and actress and singer Liza Minnelli (played by Krysta Rodriguez) enter the ultra-hip Studio 54...

1. “Master of None” Season 3
Why Should I Watch? By the time Season 3 premieres, it will have been more than four years since “Master of None” last dropped new episodes. Obviously, a lot has changed — as has the new season, which moves Lena Waithe’s supporting character from Seasons 1 and 2 into the spotlight. Season 3, subtitled “Moments in Love,” follows Denise and her partner Alicia (played by Naomi Ackie) as they work through long-term relationship highs and lows, including fertility challenges and divergent personal growth.
Co-creator and executive producer Aziz Ansari will still appear in the series, but his main duties have shifted to writing and directing; he helms all five episodes and co-writes the scripts, as well. Can Season 3 capture the old spark that saw “Master of None” honored with three Emmy Awards and 12 nominations?
Bonus Reason: Ansari’s investment in romance is far from a fleeting endeavor. The former “Parks and Recreation...

On what would have been legendary fashion designer Halston’s (born Roy Halston Frowick) 89th birthday, Netflix today announced a May 14 global premiere date for Ryan Murphy’s limited series Halston, starring Ewan McGregor in the title role. The streamer also released the key art (below) and a set of Warhol-inspired polaroids featuring the cast, Halston’s entourage.
Halston, directed and executive produced by Daniel Minahan, follows the legendary fashion designer (McGregor), as he leverages his single, invented name into a worldwide fashion empire that’s synonymous with luxury, sex, status and fame, literally defining the era he lives in, 1970’s and ‘80’s New York — until a hostile takeover forces him to battle for control of his most precious asset… the name Halston itself.
In addition to McGregor, cast includes Krysta Rodriguez as Liza Minnelli, Rebecca Dayan as Elsa Peretti, Bill Pullman as David Mahoney, Gian Franco Rodriguez as Victor Hugo,...

In the second instalment of my conversation with Frédéric Tcheng we discuss Halston's relationship to Charles James and costume designer John David Ridge, Truman Capote's Black and White Ball, Studio 54, the Amazon director's cut, envisioning a miniseries "Mad Men with the fashion world and Halston at the centre", and an upcoming project.
Halston is a story of inclusion and exclusion. His models, the Halstonettes, included Pat Cleveland, Anjelica Huston, Heidi Goldberg, Karen Bjornson, Beverly Johnson, Nancy North, Chris Royer, Alva Chinn, Connie Cook, and Pat Ast. Halston made most of the masks for Truman Capote's legendary 1966 Black and White Ball - but wasn't officially invited. The fragrance, and the designs of the 1976 U.S. Olympic uniforms helped this important fashion designer spread his wings.

Halston, by Dior And I director Frédéric Tcheng, shines light on the designer's crowning achievements and attempts to come to grips with his eventual fall. The first thought of Halston might be of Studio 54 with Andy Warhol or of Jackie Kennedy's pillbox hat and cloth coat for JFK's inauguration at a time when wives in the public eye wrapped themselves in furs.
There is footage from the Nineties of a tipsy interview with Elsa Peretti, recent interviews including Liza Minnelli, Marisa Berenson, Pat Cleveland, Bob Colacello, and Joel Schumacher, and glimpses of the infamous Battle of Versailles Fashion Show that put American fashion on the map, and is documented on film in Deborah Riley Draper's Versailles '73: American Runway Revolution.
