William Shatner is set to headline an all-star Star Trek panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year, and it will be moderated by Bryan Fuller, the man behind the upcoming new Star Trek series.
The panel will take place in Hall H on Saturday, July 23rd at 2 Pm, and some of the other Star Trek stars that will be in attendance will include Michael Dorn (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Brent Spiner (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager), and Scott Bakula (Star Trek: Enterprise).
CBS is also using the opportunity to heavily promote their upcoming Star Trek series, which Fuller is an executive producer on. The series doesn’t have an official title yet, but it’s slated to run on the CBS All Access streaming service following its premiere on the CBS broadcast network in January of 2017.

A lot of film trends can be found in Hollywood nowadays but films set in dystopian societies that are based on young adult novels are something else. First, you had The Hunger Games in 2012 setting the standard for these films. Next, and both coming out in 2014, were Divergent and The Maze Runner to add to the trend. Both very similar films, even though The Maze Runner was a bit more original. This dystopian trend continues in 2016 with the new film The 5th Wave.
Based on the novel written by Rick Yancey, The 5th Wave follows teenager Cassie Sullivan (Chloe Grace Moretz), who is living a normal teenage life in Ohio until aliens, or the “Others,” take over the planet and kill most of the human population through a series of attacks. The few humans that are left live in refugee camps in Ohio until an army colonel named Vosch (Liev Schreiber...

I watched every episode of Bravo’s Below Deck this summer and all I have to show for it is a pretty intense crush on Chef Ben Robinson and a cluster of nightmares about that one terrible summer when I was a terrible, terrible waitress. Plus this blog item, I guess. Life could not be more meaningless. Time to jump off board!
This week’s finale promos kept promising high seas drama for chief stew Adrienne Gang (pictured), but all she ended up doing was getting drunk with a bunch of lesbians, not totally embarrassing herself (minus the ’90s dance...

Next Monday is the season finale, so I thought it’d be a good time to check in on the festering barnacles of Bravo’s Below Deck. This week, Captain Lee goes golfing with the enemy (a group of miserable vegans who yell at their spoiled daughter for wanting to eat a damn egg), Aleks catches C.J. and Sam drinking beer in the sea (because there were camera crews egging them on, and why not), and Chef Ben engaged in some Real Talk with hot mess Kat, informing her, “When you drink, you turn into a trailer park, demonic,...

Both gorilla vs bear and Pitchfork have selected their videos of the year and, just for the fun of it, I've scattered a few up and down this Saturday Briefing.
Via Mike Everleth comes news that the National Film Preservation Foundation has begun production on Treasures 6: Next Wave Avant-Garde, "a 2-dvd set to be released in fall 2013. Envisioned as a sequel to the Nfpf's award-winning Treasures IV: American Avant-Garde Film, 1947-1986, the new anthology explores how avant-garde film took root and spread after the 1950s as the next generation embraced diversity and forged connections with conceptual and performance art." No titles have been announced yet, but we can look forward to 5½ hours of restorations from several archives.

To celebrate this holiday season and wrapping production after a long crowdfunding campaign and a 3 day-shoot this Sunday, writer and director Axelle Carolyn has sent over the very first stills from The Halloween Kid, her short spooky fairytale starring Julian Glover, Anna Walton (Hellboy 2), Dave Legeno (Harry Potter) and 7-year-old Leo Donnelly.
The film is produced by Neil Marshall, James Webber and Ben Robinson, and Carolyn says the film should [hopefully] be ready to hit the festival circuit early 2012. If the reaction to her previous short The Last Post is anything to go by we should be in for something special…...
