After 21 years, Rooster Teeth is shutting down.
“Since inheriting ownership and control of Rooster Teeth from AT&T following its acquisition of TimeWarner, Warner Bros. Discovery continued its investment in our company, content and community,” Rooster Teeth General Manager Jordan Levin said in a company memo. “Now however, it’s with a heavy heart I announce that Rooster Teeth is shutting down due to challenges facing digital media resulting from fundamental shifts in consumer behavior and monetization across platforms, advertising, and patronage.”
Around 150 staff are being affected, plus dozens of contractors and freelancers. A post from Rooster Teeth Community Manager Chelsea Atkinson asked that fans remember everyone at Rooster Teeth is “processing this in real time just like you,” and announced there will be a livestream about the closure March 7 on the Rooster Teeth website.

YouTube star Grace Helbig revealed in an emotional video that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 37-year-old personality shared in the eight-minute video, posted on her YouTube and Instagram pages, that she received the diagnosis — triple-positive breast cancer — “about a month ago.” She called the news “shocking” and “surreal.”
“It doesn’t sound real, but it’s real,” said Helbig, who has more than 2.6 million subscribers to her YouTube channel. “I’ve had a decent amount of time to process and start the process, so I’m finally ready to share with you.”
She went on to say her breast cancer is “super treatable” and “highly beatable,” citing her doctors and experts familiar with the diagnosis. “We’re going for cure, not remission here, which is exciting, encouraging, helpful, good,” Helbig continued, adding that her doctors believe it is stage 2A but cautioned they “are not entirely sure just yet.

Popular YouTube content creator Grace Helbig announced that she has breast cancer in a video on Monday. In her video, she said she received the cancer diagnosis about a month ago.
Helbig said she was diagnosed with triple-positive breast cancer, which she called “super treatable and highly beatable.” She was diagnosed after noticing a small lump on her breast. She said in her video that she was unsure how to bring it up to her doctor because she was afraid of looking uneducated about her own body. But now, she urges everyone to go get checked.
“Get those lumps checked,” she said. “And don’t be afraid to ask the doctor what you think might be a stupid question.”
In addition to her YouTube channel, the 37-year-old internet personality and comedian co-hosts and co-created the podcast “This Might Get Weird” alongside Mamrie Hart. In 2015, Helbig hosted her own comedy talk show on E!

The podcast industry has evolved considerably since the last in-person VidCon in 2019. U.S. podcasting is now a 2 billion business, and one organization that has taken advantage of that shift in consumer attention is Rooster Teeth. Through its audio network The Roost, the Austin-based media company distributes podcasts from renowned creators, including Anthony Padilla, Grace Helbig, Mamrie Hart, and some of its own homegrown talent. These shows have collectively pulled in 87 million video views, according to The Roost's website.
Given how heavily Rooster Teeth has prioritized podcasting, I was curious to see how the company's execs would define "video podcasts" at a June 24 VidCon panel. The result was unexpected: Rooster Teeth co-founder Geoff Ramsey and podcasting head A.J. Feliciano claimed that a video podcast doesn't need to incorporate video at all, and some consumers won't even think of those videos as podcasts.

Grace Helbig and Mamrie Hart are the latest YouTube stars to hop on the Patreon bandwagon in a bid to find financial backing for their axed YouTube series-turned-podcast This Might Get Weird.
The longtime collaborators explained in an announcement video (below) that they are seeking fan support after This Might Get was cancelled by Studio71, and they no longer have the production support of a major digital network. Therefore, the two comedians and BFFs want to foster a fan-based community around the new podcast, which comprises unfiltered weekly catch-up sessions.
“Grace and I have been doing YouTube for a long-ass time," Hart says, "and the people who have been watching us for a while have grown up, too. We don't want to only talk about things that just seem appropriate to a YouTube algorithm.”

But for fans, all is not lost: the pair, who are longtime BFFs and collaborators also announced that they plan to start a podcast version of the series, called This Might Get Weird, which will start airing sometime this week, with additional episodes rolling out weekly on Soundcloud and iTunes. Like This Might Get before it, This Might Get Weird is named after the pair’s long-running live stand-up show, This Might Get Weird, Y’all.
This Might Get began production when Helbig left her previous studio Fullscreen to join Studio71, where it was reported that she and Hart would develop a YouTube talk show. The series ran every weekday for seven months. Per internal Tubefilter data, the series’ viewership held steady from beginning to end,...

Jimmy Kimmel’s foray into YouTube culture in recent years has been a bit of a mixed bag. The late-night host received substantial backlash in 2015 when he poked fun at the 'Let’s Play' genre, in which viewers watch other people play video games. Shortly after receiving a slew of negative comments, however, Kimmel invited prominent gamers Markiplier and MissesMae onto his show to educate him. Subsequently, Jimmy Kimmel Live has invited other digital creators onto the show, including Mamrie Hart, Lohanthony, and Logan Paul.
To this end, in a segment last night, Kimmel enlisted his seven-year-old goddaughter Frankie to help him learn about the unfamiliar trend of makeup tutorials. “The internet is a mysterious place,” Kimmel says -- despite the fact that YouTube's beauty community is one of its most multi-faceted and lucrative. “There’s so much weirdness, it’s impossible to follow all of it."

Mamrie Hart has an announcement for her fans: I've Got This Round. That's the title of the YouTube star's latest book, which has now arrived on both digital and brick-and-mortar shelves.
I've Got This Round is subtitled More Tales Of Debauchery, and it offers a handful of boozy stories to match the ones Hart told in her first literary work, which like her YouTube channel is titled You Deserve A Drink. This liquor-soaked brand of humor has long been a hallmark of Hart's career and has helped her YouTube channel reach more than 1.2 million devoted subscribers. When the comedienne published the book version of You Deserve A Drink back in 2015, it immediate shot onto the New York Times best-seller list. More Tales Of Debauchery, which like its predecessor is published by Penguin, is a good candidate to reach similar heights.

For the third time in six years, Rhett & Link have written and performed a song that introduces a glamorous holiday trend. After introducing viewers to their "Christmas Sweatz" in 2012 and putting on a "Christmas Face" in 2013, the inimitable YouTube duo have returned with another piece of eccentric holiday fashion. For 2017, say hello to the "Christmas Booty."
"Christmas Booty," which arrived on Rhett & Link's Good Mythical Morning channel on December 19, features the same formula as the duo's previous Yuletide tracks. At first, they dress up in typical wintry duds, as do guest stars Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart. Then, thanks to a makeover from a disheveled Mamrie Hart, the foursome's respective backsides are transformed into posterior Christmas masterpieces. Viewers also get to see a Channukah Booty modeled by Fine Bros Entertainment co-founder Benny Fine and a Kwanzaa Booty delivered (with an accompanying rap verse) by DeStorm Power.

YouTube’s resident mixologist is sharing more stories from her life with her fans. Mamrie Hart, known for her boozy web series You Deserve A Drink and for her frequent collaborations with Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart, has announced her second book, titled I’ve Got This Round.
I’ve Got This Round will be a follow-up to Hart’s first literary effort, which like her signature web series is titled You Deserve A Drink. In that book, Hart shared funny stories from her past, and in her new one, she plans to do more of the same. The catch is that all of the stories featured in I’ve Got This Round took place after Hart wrote You Deserve A Drink.
“I just want to let you guys know that I think this book is really good, and I’m probably most proud of it, more than anything I've ever written,...
