Karen Rodriguez's dreams are coming true! The former American Idol contestant and now Roc Nation Latin artist just released her first music video for her original song, "Happy April Fools," which was produced by bachata king himself Romeo Santos. "From the moment I met Karen, I knew she was special," Santos exclusively tells E! News. "Working with her on 'Happy April Fools' was magic—she radiates light and passion in every step of the process. Roc Nation Latin is honored to be a part of her journey, and we can't wait for everyone to know Karen Rodriguez!" We sat with Rodriguez, who revealed to us that there is quite a story behind the...

Well, that was the weirdest possible way to introduce season 12's finalists to America, wouldn't you say? To recap, Ryan Seacrest sat the 20 remaining hopefuls in what looked like a cramped classroom (very Up the Down Staircase) and led each surviving finalist through a long corridor and to the stage for a victory performance. In case that wasn't bizarre enough, Ryan sometimes gave the performers little pep talks before they hit the stage. And we all know what a sympathetic character Seacrest is.
"You did it. All the hard work paid off," Seacrest muttered to Candice Glover like a scripted high-school guidance counselor. So, so weird.
Here's what's important. The ten finalists (chosen by home viewer votes) were announced, and now it's our job to rank them in two ways: 1) by merit, based solely on who deserves to be the next American Idol most; 2) by likeliness to win, based solely...

American Idol's voters always mess up the first week of voting and eliminate the wrong contestant, usually a girl. Think about last year's saucy 13th place finisher Ashthon Jones, or 2010's sweetly disposable 12th place finisher Lacey Brown. I'd have liked to see those dames trot it out another week, especially over their competitors Karen Rodriguez and Tim "Never Naked Enough" Urban. This year, Nigel Lythgoe wisely put the first week's verdict in the judges hands, allowing them to select an evictee between the lowest-vote-getting male and female contestant. Normally, Elise Testone would've gone home in a huff and we would've never seen her downtrodden Brett Butler impersonation again, but no, J-Lo anointed a different loser. And I'm thrilled about it.
Jeremy Rosado is your first loser, America. As I pointed out yesterday, he's the most infuriating type of contestant: Ok voice, no personality, fake humility. I have shivers.

I kicked off my recap of The X Factor‘s series premiere with a multiple choice question, so it seems somehow fitting to also begin our discussion of its sophomore outing by asking everyone to get out their No. 2 pencils and grapple with this mind-bender: A mega-hyped talent competition is airing its second episode, and 50 minutes in, the most entertaining aspect is a cellphone ad starring the show’s ornery British judge: How many minutes until you change the channel, or else find yourself mesmerized by a filthy, half-deflated basketball that undoubtedly deserves the Emmy for Outstanding Prop in a Reality Series Backstory?...

Yesterday’s news that Pia Toscano has signed with Interscope Records has us wondering: After this summer’s American Idols Live! tour (during which everyone will be Extra Alive), who else from season 10 will you really want to hear from again?
Pia Toscano is this rare Idol contestant who still manages to create huge buzz. She’s a pretty girl who could sing well, so how dare America get it wrong? I like Pia’s voice — never detected much musical intrigue from her, but I suppose that’s what production teams are for. The way she’s still kind of...

It was quite a spectacular night at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live Wednesday night for the American Idol Season 10 finale. Two very young country hopefuls were in the music battle of their lives but first, today’s music idols took over the stage for a two hour extravaganza.
The first hour featured performances by the reunited Top 13 finalists, Judas Priest, Kirk Franklin and Gladys Knight, Jack Black, Beyoncé, Tony Bennett, Lil Jon and TLC, and Tim McGraw. The top 13 performed Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” which wasn’t wonderful…the former contestants aren’t exactly in a glee club. James Durbin seemed to have quite a blast performing with Judas Priest just as Jacob Lusk seemed to be having the time of his life performing “Smile” with Kirk Franklin and Gladys Knight. Lady GaGa and Beyonce Knowles, who served as guest mentors on a previous separate week of "American Idol", were two of the many musical guests at the finale of the singing competition on May 25. The former was bathed in blue lights as she performed "The Edge of Glory", while the latter belted out a live version of "1+1" with red lights and smoke surrounding her.
Appearing high atop the stage, GaGa was dressed in a long cape and a bedazzled headpiece which has chains hanging on it. The Mother Monster delivered the first verse of the song before ditching the headpiece to reveal a warrior-type outfit. Halfway through the performance, she was joined by saxophonist Clarence Clemons of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band.

We learned last night which American Idol contestants will be advancing to the finals. But what I really want to know is: Who will the Top 13 sing with in the finale? Now, we know every year, the Fox series trots out A-list musical acts (like the rumored Bono; Fox is not commenting on whether or not he will really appear on the season 10 finale) to sing alongside a good number of finalists. So now it’s time to create our wish lists: If every member of the Top 13 were to sing with a superstar, which would you choose for them?...

So what was the mood post-show and how did the top two celebrate? Such as, do we prefer Scotty with a buzz-cut or Scotty with an inch of hair? Have we ever heard Scotty "sing a chorus like that" before? What about one song later? Thursday night’s installment of American Idol wasn’t so much a results show as it was a series of distinct promotional opportunities. Jennifer Lopez took a break from her grueling work behind the Idol judges’ table to hawk her two latest singles and herald the return of the saggy genie pant. Steven Tyler woke up from his long season’s nap to move a couple copies of his memoir. That horrible British guy who insulted Stefano Langone’s mother’s cooking tried to whip up some buzz for another one of his TV shows that I have no interest in watching.

Let’s be real for a second: We needed NBC’s The Voice in our lives about as much as Christina Aguilera’s hair (wig?) needed another peroxide treatment. I mean, Tuesdays are supposed to be reserved for Dancing With the Stars results, Glee, The Good Wife, and (when possible) catching up on back episodes of 90210 or The Killing.
But the DVR is a harsh mistress. And the series premiere of The Voice was pretty terrific. Which means we’ll all just have to dig down deep in our couch cushions and find two more hours to sacrifice on the altar of appointment television.

The theme on Wednesday's (April 20) "American Idol" top-seven performance night was music from the 21st century, and while James Durbin blew it out with a Muse extravaganza, Jacob Lusk took it down for a touching Luther Vandross tribute and teens Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina played it close to the vest with traditional country tunes.
First up was McCreery, who sang "Swingin' " by LeAnn Rimes, giving it his usual dose of country comfort. Backed by a four-piece horn section, McCreery brought the whole arsenal: the bizarre sideways-mic technique, the George W. Bush-esque facial tics and the "down-home" charm. For the first time this season, though, McCreery's shtick seemed a bit phoned-in and fell a bit flat, lacking his usual appeal.

hollywoodnews.com: In a post-show interview with top 11 finalist and recent casualty Naima Adedapo, Entertainment Weekly noted an observation: since America began voting for the top 13, all those voted off thus far have been women.
It began with Ashton Jones, continued with Karen Rodriguez, and in last week’s show saw both Adedapo and Thia Megia get cut. When Casey Abrams lacked the votes to keep him in the contest, judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson overruled his departure with a save.
Said Adedapo, “Sometimes I think men come off stronger, they come off harder…there’s something that just doesn’t pull back…especially the guys on this show, the ones I know. With some of the ladies, we’re still bringing it, but…” she trailed off. Yet, the pattern of historical winners doesn’t support the idea that the men have better chances.

It becomes more and more likely that "American Idol" this season has a slimmer chance to crown a female contestant. As apparent from this week's double elimination of Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo, contestants begin to question the kind of audience who watch the show and cast their votes. Thia and Naima believe they are dominated by young girls voting for the guys.
"We sort of figured since there were more females watching this show the votes were going to be more for the guys," Megia said during a conference call with reporters. However, it doesn't mean that Megia overlooks the guys' talent. She called them "incredible" but the female contestants were "a bit intimidated by all the girls watching the show and knowing that their votes are going to be going for guys."

Look at the photo above. Notice anything? Well, beyond the absence of last night’s eliminated contestants — Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia — you should notice quite the gender disparity within the Top 9. Though Randy Jackson began the season in January by telling media outlets that he thought a female contestant would win American Idol, season 10′s girls have been dropping faster than a saved Casey Abrams. Though the girls slightly outnumbered the guys in the Top 13, we’ve since lost Ashthon Jones, Karen Rodriguez, and the aforementioned Naima and Thia, bringing the current total to six men and only three women.

Motown Week on Season 10 of American Idol was downright legendary. The judges saved Casey Abrams, while America saved Haley Reinhart. Stefano Langone took a tumble, while Idol history was rewritten before our very eyes. Hulk Hogan trashed his shirt, while Gordon Ramsay trashed his already flimsy reputation. Meanwhile, Naima Adedapo got her dance on, Scotty McCreery got his lean on, and somebody dropped to the ground and clutched Ryan Seacrest’s knees. My Idoloonies cohosts (one of ‘em all the way from Australia) and I discuss all of these dramatic moments, dish the season’s lack of a clear front-runner,...

Haley Reinhart, Naima Adedapo have smallest Twitter followings, a metric that seems to mirror 'Idol' voting trends and popularity.

There are so many ways to quantify which "American Idol" finalists are popping with voters. From the screams and elaborate signs in the IdolDome on Wednesday nights to the number of weird promotional items being offered on eBay and bootleg fan sites that pop up to encourage power-voting, "Idol" popularity is a tricky thing to measure.
One of the best new ways, though, is to track the contestants' Twitter account and see who has the most followers. After stumbling out of the gate with their social-networking efforts last year, amid worries that loose lips might ruin the show's finale, the "Idol" top 11 are back in effect on Twitter and chatting it up with their online fans, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

Let's face it: Haley Reinhart never stood a chance. She's been in the bottom three both weeks so far and she doesn't seem to have clicked with judges or the audience. Given her white soul mama persona, Wednesday night's (March 23) Motown theme should have been right up her alley. She picked a good song, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles' "You Really Got a Hold on Me," but the combination of her neck rolls, off-putting growling and shouty Holiday Inn lounge performance didn't do her any favors.
She seems poised to continue the steady march of female singers off the season 10 stage (goodbye Ashthon Jones and Karen Rodriguez, we hardly knew ye) on Thursday night's (March 24) results show after another tepid attempt. And the black shorts? Forget about it, that was just all wrong!
Once again, I'm totally on the same page as Mj's Big Blog editor Mj Santilli, who agreed that...

Karen Rodriguez of American Idol stopped by our home station, 102.7 Kiis-fm in Los Angeles, to perform her rendition of Selena’s, “I Could Fall In Love.” The 21-year old from New York was eliminated on March 17th, but that didn’t stop her fans from coming out to show their love and support at this intimate, private show. We’ll always remember how she lit up when she told us her favorite celebrity crush is Bruno Mars. He’s the total package, and his raw talent really inspires her. Check out her performance and tell us what you think – Was it a mistake to vote her off?

Nick Jonas surprised American Idol eliminee Karen Rodriguez during a recent appearance on Ryan Seacrest's radio show. The contestant had previously admitted that a major reason she auditioned for the show was because her sister Karol thought she might be able to meet Jonas through the experience. While detailing her sister's love for Jonas on Kiis-fm's On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Monday morning, the singer was stunned to turn around and see the youngest Jonas Brother standing behind her. Jonas explained that he had been attending SXSW in Texas when he heard what Rodriguez had said about him so decided to get on a plane back to Los Angeles to meet her. Rodriguez then told him that (more)...

You thought being on 'American Idol' was a big deal? Well, then you've never had Nick Jonas crash your post-elimination radio interview with Ryan Seacrest.
Karen Rodriguez, whose sister Karol is apparently a huge Jonas Bros. fan (they still have those?) got a surprise visit from Nick, after gushing about trying out for 'Idol' just so Karol could meet the youngest of the three of brothers.
"I think that this tops, like, my 'American Idol' experience. This is all my sister wanted, and I'm so glad I could make her dream come true by trying to make mine come true," said Karen.
Omg! Everyone's dreams are coming true! Can you handle it?

Nick Jonas just made an "American Idol" cast-off and her sister happy. Karen Rodriguez, the latest "Idol" to get the boot was surprised by the presence of the Jonas Brothers star when she appeared as the guest on Ryan Seacrest's morning radio show. While talking about how much her younger sister is in love with Nick, she got a tap on the shoulder.
Karen could not contain her happiness upon seeing him, saying "I'm just so happy for my sister" while wiping tears. She continued, "I think this tops my 'American Idol' experience, this is all my sister wanted and I'm so glad I can make her dream come true by trying to make mine come true."
Karen then broke into "Burnin' Up" which she proposed to sing on "Idol" but did not get the chance to. Nick was about to jump in the song but his throat got jammed.

Karen Rodriguez has admitted that as well as TV work, she would love to perform in a musical on Broadway.
The 21 year old singer from New York was eliminated from American Idol on Thursday night, after she found herself in the bottom three alongside Naima Adedapo and Haley Reinhart. Speaking to reporters in a conference call she later admitted that as well as singing, she developed a passion for acting while attending Laguardia High School for the performing arts.
She said:
“I’d love to do movies and commercials! I did a voiceover already in a movie while I was in high school.”
“Coming from Laguardia High School, I got to play the lead in West Side Story and it was my first really big play with 3,000 seats filled out every night. That made me believe more in myself as an actress.”

It wasn't unanimous, but on Thursday night American Idol's bubbly Latina, Karen Rodriguez, was given her walking papers. Rodriguez, 21, is the second elimination from the Top 13, and once again, the judges decided not to use their one save to prevent her from going. But Rodriguez made everyone sit up and take notice when she was the only one chosen from some 33,000 online auditions to make it into the Top 24, and when she was able to skillfully blend English and Spanish in her performances of "Hero" and "Love Will Lead You Back." TV Guide Magazine spoke to the native New Yorker about her unique approach to Idol.

Karen Rodriguez has confessed that having the support of judge Jennifer Lopez was an important part of her journey on American Idol. The 23-year-old singer, who was the second finalist to be voted off the Fox talent competition on Thursday, claimed that the women "identified with each other" because of their similar backgrounds. She told reporters: "I felt that [Jennifer] really understood me because I know she's gone through that before. We identified with each other so much. She struggled all (more)...

It was fun while it lasted, but eliminated Idol contestant Karen Rodriguez isn't dwelling on what could have been. Yes, she was initially upset that her time singing for 30 million people a week is over. And of course, it was hard to say goodbye to her fellow contestants, especially Bff Jacob Lusk. But her bond with judge Jennifer Lopez is what left the biggest impression—and it's also now her motivation to keep pushing forward. So how is Karen coping with her elimination, and what did Jennifer say to help keep the young singer's spirits high? Here's what she told us this morning: Read More: Who called out Jennifer Lopez at American Idol last night? "After the show, I wiped...

Luck was not on Karen Rodriguez's side on Thursday, Mar. 17, when she was the second contestant eliminated on "American Idol's" tenth season. She talks to the press about her most memorable experience on the show, what advice the judges gave her and what's next for her.
Standout experience on the show:
"Just the fact that I got to record 'I Could Fall in Love' and it's selling available on iTunes. Just to able to look up my name and something comes up out of it. 'If I Could Fall in Love' was sung by my idol Selena. She's the reason I began singing. At my age, five, six years-old, she really inspired me and her life was taken away so fast. You only get so many chances on "American Idol" and despite the continuing adoration of judge Jennifer Lopez, Karen Rodriguez ran out of magic bullets this week.
After landing in the bottom three for the second week in a row (not for nothing, but so far this season the bottom three has been all female both times), Rodriguez got her golden ticket revoked this week after another vocal meltdown. Between her bizarre cut-rate "Jetsons" outfit and the choice of the lesser-known Taylor Dayne hit "Love Will Lead You Back," even her teary pleas didn't cut loose a save from the judges.
While half of our expert panel was sure that Naima Adedapo's tepid cover of Tina Turner's "What's Love Got To Do With It" would spell her doom, the other half of us (two-for-two baby!) saw the writing on the wall for K-Rod.

Despite her departure last night, New York's Karen Rodriguez has no regrets about her bilingual approach to 'American Idol.'
In a conference call with the press this afternoon, Karen emphasized the importance of being true to her self on her 'Idol' journey.
"I've always had a vision of myself being a Latin-American artist and just to be able to sing a song of that magnitude (Mariah Carey's 'Hero') in both languages on the number one show in America, on a show called 'American Idol'...
"But I've always said that America is a big melting pot and there's so many cultures, so much diversity that it could be called 'American Idol' but (laughs) it's certainly not, you know everybody on the show brings their own style and that was just my way of expressing myself and showing America who I really was.

This week's "American Idol" in 60 Seconds video recap, embedded below, deals with all the missed opportunities and crushing disappointments our nation faced while watching season 10's "Birth Year Songs" episode.
Casey Abrams' underwhelming "Smells Like a Bad Imitation" Nirvana cover hardly seemed worth the pomp and circumstance it received. The Nirvana on "Idol" seal has been broken, yes, but it was done in an unfortunately inept way. The only thing that would have been more misguided was Scotty McCreery warbling "Rape Me" with his signature smirk.
Instead, Scotty sang his first love song to any teenage girl who has a deep-voice fetish, while Haley Reinhart channeled Miss Yvonne's makeup meltdown with a deranged Whitney Houston cover that ended with Seacrest rubbing his saliva all over her face. (Haley's diabolical plan to steal Seacrest DNA worked.
