Shortly after actor Stephen Amell made headlines for calling the SAG-AFTRA strike “incredibly frustrating” and “myopic,” “Heels” showrunner Mike O’Malley called up his series’ star.
“We knew that [his comments] were going to distract from the hard work that the people in both the WGA, of which I’m a member, and SAG-AFTRA were doing,” O’Malley said in an interview with EW. “When I heard and I called him up, I said, ‘Stephen, man, we all got to stand together.’ He got it immediately.”
O’Malley went on to call the moment “unfortunate” and note that he “genuinely” thinks Amell “put his foot in his mouth.”
“He felt bad about it,” O’Malley said. “I think he was basically saying what a lot of people were saying, which was that they were frustrated that they couldn’t work. But I know where his heart is, and his heart is standing with his union,...

Heels showrunner Mike O’Malley has weighed in on strike comments made in July by Stephen Amell, who called the SAG-AFTRA strike “myopic,” “incredibly frustrating” and a “reductive negotiating tactic” earlier this summer.
While talking to EW about his desire to find a new home for Heels, the wrestling-and-family drama that was just canceled by Starz, O’Malley was asked to reflect on what his star said during the heat of the summer labor dispute.
While appearing at Galaxycon in Raleigh, Nc, in July, Amell said, “I support my union, I do, and I stand with them, but I do not support striking, I don’t I think it is a reductive negotiating tactic, and I find the entire thing incredibly frustrating. And I think the thinking as it pertains to shows like the show that I’m on [Heels], that premiered last night, I think it’s myopic.”

Starz is canceling four of its series, Variety has learned exclusively. Specifically, “Heels,” “Run the World,” and “Blindspotting” will not get new seasons at the cable network, while “The Venery of Samantha Bird” Season 1 is being scrapped without airing.
“Heels,” “Run the World,” and “Blindspotting” all recently aired their second season at Starz, while “The Venery of Samantha Bird” was in production on its first season. Production was shut down, however, at the onset of the WGA strike. It was reported at the time that only two episodes of the first season were left to shoot.
“The Venery of Samantha Bird” was to star Katherine Langford as the title character. Per the official logline, “Samantha, while visiting family in New England, reconnects with her childhood sweetheart and falls headlong into a seemingly perfect storybook romance. But the couple’s picture-perfect love story isn’t as sweet as it seems on the surface.

As fate would have it, the decades-old “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” cast email chain was randomly revived by Michael Cera just before Netflix ordered its new “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” anime series, featuring the original film cast in voice roles. Franchise creator Bryan Lee O’Malley revealed the coincidence in a chat with Entertainment Weekly, noting that the long-dormant email chain’s revival was so random that cast member Chris Evans hilariously called out Cera.
“The cast have spoken about this email chain a lot but there’s one detail that I don’t think anyone has mentioned,” O’Malley said. “We were exchanging emails when the movie was coming out and then this thread went dormant for about nine years. Then, before this anime was even on the docket, Michael Cera responded to a meme someone had sent as if no time had passed. He just said, ‘Oh, that’s funny.

Quentin Tarantino has helmed many popular movies over the past three decades, but his 1994 crime drama Pulp Fiction is possibly the most beloved. The film not only put Tarantino on the map as Hollywood’s newest hitmaker, but it also revived John Travolta’s career, proving that he could headline a major movie, even after a lengthy gap in his resume.
There are a number of memorable scenes in Pulp Fiction, but the dance sequence between Travolta’s Vincent Vega and Uma Thurman’s Mia Wallace is the most iconic. Interestingly enough, Tarantino was inspired by a Disney animated classic when coming up with the concept for the sequence.
‘Pulp Fiction’ became a major critical and commercial success
Tarantino was new on the scene when he wrote and directed Pulp Fiction. While his first movie, Reservoir Dogs, was critically praised, Pulp Fiction made him a star.
