Director Joe Carnahan ("The Grey") and his brother Matthew are currently adapting a screenplay of "Kick-Ass" comic book creator Mark Millar's limited Icon series "Nemesis" for the big screen :
"...supervillain 'Nemesis' blows up a building in Tokyo, killing a Swat team. In Washington, D.C., the FBI informs metro police 'Chief Inspector Blake Morrow' that Nemesis is targeting him next. Morrow has his family, put in protective custody. Later, Nemesis soon hijacks Air Force One over the District of Columbia, taking the United States president hostage.
"Nemesis reveals to his henchmen that his real name is 'Matt Anderson' and his father committed suicide after Officer Blake Morrow tried to imprison him. Matt was later adopted by his uncle. Bored of well-behaviour and less excitement, Anderson travelled the world to learn the ways of crime, hoping to fulfil his mother's dying wish to have Morrow killed.

It's been a big news week for The Grey director Joe Carnahan. For a second there it looked like he would end up directing a new feature film version of Daredevil for Fox, but that fell through pretty quick. He may not be directing Daredevil, but it looks like he's jumped on board another cool comic book property to adapt for the big screen!
Kick-Ass comic creator Mark Millar has revealed on his forum that Carnahan is set to bring his supervillain comic Nemesis to life on the big screen. Back in 2010 Tony Scott was attached to direct the movie, but apparently over the last two years he fell away from the project. Carnahan wrote the script for Scott, so it makes sense that he's jumped on board as the films' director. Here's what Millar said...

Thank goodness the wicked Helen did not bring about the end of mankind and civilization as we knew it. This meant the characters of ITV’s Primeval could come back for a fresh go-round. The show took a breather after the third season ended in 2009 and came back in seven and six episode arcs, making for abbreviated fourth and fifth seasons respectively and they are now available as a combined third volume in either standard DVD or, for the first time, as a Blu-ray option from BBC Video.
I find myself enjoying the series more for the characters than the writing, which either leaves holes as big as the anomalies the heroes deal with or are overly convoluted, leaving me wishing for a happy middle ground.

Mark Millar's next comic to be adapted into a feature film is called Nemesis. Latino Review reports that the story "follows Matt Anderson, a billionaire super-villain who is bent on avenging his criminal father by killing Washington DC Chief Inspector Blake Marrow." Anderson is reportedly like Batman, only a jerk.
The project is being directed by Tony Scott based on a script by Joe Carnahan for 20th Century Fox. MTV caught up with Carnahan who feels that his lead for The Grey, Liam Neeson, would be a good fit for a role in Nemesis. Watch the video below and share your thoughts:

Neeson obviously would not be a good fit for the role of Anderson, so who do you think he could play?

It’s become somewhat de rigueur for comics writer Mark Millar to auction off the naming rights to some of his characters, which offers the chance for readers to gain superhero immortality by joining the likes of Dave Lizewski, Matt Anderson and Blake Morrow in the pages of his work. And, given how often those pages are developed into movies, possibly on screen too. Now, he’s at it again, offering the chance to name the super villain in The Secret Service, which bears not only Millar’s touch but also the creative input of Kick Ass co-writer/director/producer Matthew Vaughn (whose Marv Films owns the movie rights) and Dave Gibbons. You know the one: worked on a few titles such as Watchmen. And Batman. And Superman. And Green Lantern. And... Basically, he’s a legend. The proceeds will go to a good cause – St Bartholomew’s Primary School Pantomime Fund,...

Following the cliff-hanger ending of Primeval's fourth season, show boss Tim Haines has been teasing about what could be in store for the dinosaur hunters. "There's a much bigger story beginning to brew," he revealed at SFX Magazine's annual convention this month. Haines revealed that viewers will find out more about the reason behind new character Matt Anderson's (Ciarán McMenamin) journey into the past.

I’m glad that Primeval came back for another two seasons, season 4 has been the best yet, with better creature effects, acting, and more of that great British sarcasm. The writers seem to have taken on board what works so well for shows like Doctor Who, and have been teasing viewers with questions like “Who is Matt Anderson really?”, “Who is Gideon?”, “Are they time travellers?” and “What are they up to?”
Their conversations lead viewers to believe that they’re trying to stop some sort of disaster that’s unleashed by someone at the Arc. As the fifth and penultimate episode of season 4 of Primeval is due to be broadcast this weekend, synopses of season 5 episodes have surfaced online that may explain what Matt Anderson it trying to prevent, but might paradoxically cause.
Beware – spoilers below for season 4 and 5 of Primeval…
The Arc is quiet and there have been no anomalies for months.

The opening titles of Primeval involve triangular shards of light with various dinosaurs and monsters emblazoned on them, synchronized with the appearance of each cast member’s credit. This speaks volumes about the show itself, which has always placed an emphasis on CGI beasties over characterization and acting.
Primeval suffered an extinction event in summer 2009, when ITV decided to cancel the expensive series in the face of strong ratings, because of financial difficulties. In a remarkable rescue, the show was revived by ITV agreeing to split production costs between three partners: UKTV (who’ll premiere series 5 on Watch), BBC America and the German broadcaster ProSieben. It’s great to see a TV show survive death thanks to some business creativity, to benefit the millions who enjoy it, but Primeval is unfortunately a series that remains more of a special-effects showreel than a compelling action drama.

ITV have put five short webisodes for Primeval online, ahead of Season 4's New Year’s Day premiere. The popular time-travelling dinosaur show succumbed to the all-too-frequent scourge of cancellation after three UK seasons due to financial concerns, but then was recommissioned for Seasons 4 and 5 as an international co-production after fan outcry. (However, in the Us, Seasons 1 and 2 were combined to give one 13-episode ‘season’, so this will probably be treated as the third ‘season’.)
Starting off with interviews with two of the remaining (i.e. not dead, resigned or missing) characters (Ben Miller's James Lester and Ben Mansfield's Captain Becker) is a cool way of recapping the events so far. The first webisode goes on to show recruitment interviews with two new members of the team, Matt Anderson (Ciarán McMenamin) and Jess Parker (Ruth Kearney). The businessman and scientist Philip Burton (Star Trek: DS9's Alexander Siddig) is also introduced later on.

We recently reported that Tony Scott (Enemy of the State) was interested in directing a big screen version of Mark Millar's "Nemesis" comic book and even talked about attaching Johnny Depp and/or Brad Pitt. MTV News now caught up with Millar (Wanted, Kick-Ass), who gave an update on the project. "They reckon the budget on this thing will probably be around $150 million mark," he revealed. "It's a very expensive film, it's got a lot of big set pieces. So the nice thing is, it means we can hopefully afford who we want to work with." Millar added that he would prefer Depp to star in the film rather than Pitt. And he wants to Scott to eventually direct. "Tony Scott has to be at the top of the list, he's a Hollywood legend. Every single person in the country probably has at least one of his movies on DVD.

Comic book creator Mark Millar (Kick-Ass, Wanted) has been donating money to a special needs unit in a school where his brother has been raising funds for handicapped children for several years. Millar does this by auctioning off an opportunity to name the latest lead characters in his comic books. Winners in the past have included Dave Lizewski, Matt Anderson and Blake Morrow, who have gone on to become Kick-Ass, Nemesis, and the cop from "Nemesis." Now, Millar is letting fans name the lead character in "Superior" comic, which revolves around a young boy with multiple sclerosis who becomes, via a magic wish, the superhero of his dreams. "Dave Lizewski is now an action figure and movie icon as well as a comic-book character and both Matt Anderson and Blake Morrow are delighted to find themselves as the leads in the upcoming Tony Scott adaptation of 'Nemesis,'" said Millar.

And, the way Millar is going, on celluloid. The above names, for example, belong to the winners of Millar's last three auctions - but you might know them better as, respectively, Kick-Ass, Nemesis and Nemesis' own, well, super-cop nemesis. And now Millar's doing it again with his latest creator-owned comic, Superior. The story of a young boy with multiple sclerosis who becomes, via dint of a magical wish, the superhero of his dreams, Superior - written by Millar, and drawn by Leinil Yu - launches in October. And, to continue the wish fulfilment theme, you too can be that young boy. And, with a movie deal in the offing,...

Mark Millar, the creator of the comic series was recently on a BBC radio show, where he didn’t hold anything back on all of his projects and their Hollywood adaptations.

You have to give Scottish writer Mark Millar credit for turning the well-established ideas of the comic book world on their head.
He revamped Marvel's most famous mutants (Ultimate X-Men), offered a modern take on The Avengers (The Ultimates), depicted an alternative version of Superman who was instead raised in Russia (Red Son), created a secret team of supervillains rather than heroes (Wanted) and explored the idea of what would happen if a teenager decided to become a real-life costumed crimefighter (Kick-Ass).
Millar's latest project is Nemesis, unveiled in March and featuring a billionaire who is an anarchic killer. The underlying premise asks: What if Bruce Wayne were the Joker? This inspiration is obvious in several frames, including a scene where the character bursts from his Nemesis-mobile on a motorbike as Batman did in The Dark Knight. There's even an image of Nemesis smearing blood across his face to create a Joker-styled smile.

What is it, Tony Scott Month? We’re starting to think that the director has paid to make sure his name is linked to every other movie news story right now. The latest word on Scott’s actions is that over the weekend, he became attached to direct an adaptation Mark Millar’s graphic novel, Nemesis.Created by Kick-Ass writer Millar and Steven McNiven, the story is another twisty shift on superhero troops, this time tweaking the Batman-esque tale of a man whose parents die. The slight difference is that Matt Anderson is a billionaire tycoon and genius, but he’s also a villain, just like his mum and dad before him.So he doesn’t pour his resources into fighting crime; he flies around the world knocking off respected senior police officers and carries out his biggest plan in Washington DC, where he terrorises Blake Morrow, the boss cop who captured his parents.

A few weeks ago we spoke to comic author and creator, Mark Millar, and one of the things he mentioned to us was that there was some motion on his comic Nemesis getting a film adaptation. Millar said that it even had “a director attached that has been a hero of mine for years and we are going into the scripting stage now and hopefully can start pre-production in a few months.”
According to Deadline, that director is in fact Tony Scott. We just posted Scott’s Unstoppable trailer this past Friday, that being his next film to hit the market. That movie he did for Fox, and that same studio has acquired the rights to Millar’s comic book. Scott Free productions is said to be co-producing the project as well.

20th Century Fox has acquired the film rights to the graphic novel Nemesis from Mark Millar and Steven McNiven, and the studio has attached Tony Scott to direct the adaptation.
Nemesis (issue #1 pictured rights) tells the story of Matt Anderson, a billionaire genius bent on avenging his parents’ death as a costumed vigilante. If it sounds or looks like an ivory-clad Batman, that’s the intention. The cover even originally carried the slogan “What if Batman was the Joker?” The twist is this comic character is a villain who unleashes a terrorist campaign on D.C. chief inspector Blake Morrow and, unlike Batman, fires a gun.
Bleeding Cool reported the involvement of Scott, who directed such classic action films as Top Gun, True Romance, Enemy of the State, and Beverly Hills Cop II. His latest is Unstoppable with frequent collaborator Denzel Washington and breakout actor Chris Pine.
