Freshers' Week, as it's called in the UK, is a coming-of-age tale for young university students as they wave goodbye to their parents, put up their favorite posters in their new room (flagrantly ignoring the "no Blu-Tack" role), and awkwardly get to know their fellow students. As outlined in the new trailer for class division thriller "Saltburn" (from "Promising Young Woman" director Emerald Fennell), the awkwardness is only heightened as working-class students from state schools and future dukes and viscountesses from expensive private schools are suddenly filtered into the same classrooms.
This would-be melting pot usually separates out into individual ingredients again soon enough, but "Saltburn" sees Oxford University scholarship student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) invited into the world of wealth, privilege, and black tie dinners after a chance encounter with the affable Felix Catton ("Euphoria" star Jacob Elordi). What Halloween would be complete without a little "Saw"? After the ninth chapter in the 2000s horror mainstay, "Spiral: From the Book of Saw," opened in May 2021, this year's "Saw X" saw the series return to a far more traditional, scary season-adjacent launch date in late September. The move paid off at the box office, with "Saw X" scoring the franchise's strongest box office debut in over a decade and very nearly taking the number one spot if it hadn't been for those snoopin' Paw Patrollers (I guess #SawPatrol became a real thing after all). Now, the film is headed to Premium Video on Demand and Premium Electronic Sell-Through just in time for your All Hallows' Eve watch party on October 20, 2023, with its release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital to follow a month later on November 21.

Few fictional characters don't require an introduction. James Bond is one of them.
Across 25 films, produced over 60-plus years, Ian Fleming's debonair, dangerous, and dashing spy has been at the center of a cinematic legacy that defies the odds. Perhaps only Sherlock Holmes offers comparison -- a character so iconic, so popular, so fully-formed, but also so flexible that it's impossible to imagine the modern pop culture landscape with him. Agent 007 set the standard. And then resets it every decade or so.
Of course, a character this important (to both fans and the producers crafting his movies) needs an actor capable of filling that tux and wielding that pistol. And here's the truth: There has never been a bad Bond actor. Sure, there have been plenty of terrible James Bond movies, but no actor has actually embarrassed themselves or the franchise. They've all shown up. They all understood the assignment.

"Starship Troopers" is a movie that we at /Film are no strangers to, especially as a piece of poignant sociopolitical commentary. Our very own Jacob Hall wrote in his dedicated Daily Stream that it is "less of an adaptation and more of an evisceration, a shiny, big-budget middle finger to fascism disguised as a vapid blockbuster." When it was released back in 1997, many didn't pick up on the dark humor, confusing the satire for either full-blown apologia or just a really weird attempt at a monster movie. Perhaps the most famous example of this confusion came from The Washington Post's review of the film, which called its tone "so inconsistent that it's impossible to decide whether he's sending up the Third Reich or in love with it."
This statement seems ridiculous now, twenty-five years since the film's release. However, at the time, Paul Verhoeven was not a director people associated with outlandish irony.

Daniel Radcliffe is either known for playing the boy who lived in "Harry Potter" or for playing some eclectic guy in the newest super-weird movie. In "Guns Akimbo," the actor gives up his wand for guns to defeat his enemies. The Jason Lei Howden-helmed film stars Radcliffe as a down-on-his-luck video game developer who becomes the next participant in a real-life death match that streams online. Oh, and one day he wakes up with guns physically bolted to his hands. He is forced to go on the run even before he can get completely used to his hands being out of order and is chased by Nix (Samara Weaving), a relentless killer at the top of her game.
The fast-paced action movie follows Radcliffe struggling with the consequences of wielding guns on his arms, wearing only a robe and slippers, and navigating cartoonishly violent, inescapable situations. When Radcliffe read...

If you thought maintaining a romantic relationship was hard, have you considered the pain and trauma involved in a platonic friendship gone sour? Director Martin McDonagh has lent his uniquely sharp sensibilities to all sorts of tricky subject matter over the years: the masterful tale of a hitman developing a guilty conscience in "In Bruges," the manic crime drama "Seven Psychopaths," and especially his controversial Oscars darling "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" that dealt with race and policing in provocative ways. By comparison, the story of two lifelong pals suddenly reaching an impasse in their friendship feels downright mundane. But not in the hands of a filmmaker like McDonagh.
"The Banshees of Inisherin" is the writer/director's latest effort, bringing the gang back together for a long-awaited "In Bruges" reunion that treats their falling out with deadly seriousness. /Film's Marshall Shaffer reviewed the film out of the Venice Film Festival earlier this year,...

Ari Aster can likely cross off “sophomore slump” from his list of many nightmares.
Distributor A24 let loose the follow-up to the director’s widely praised, commercial hit debut “Hereditary” with two buzz screenings, which ran simultaneously in New York and Los Angeles on Tuesday night. Response was almost unanimously positive, if not significantly rattled.
“Holy s—,” wrote Slash Film’s Chris Evangelista, adding that the movie was “disturbing” but an absolute “crowd pleaser.” Dozens of early viewers complimented Aster’s ability to create plausible terror in broad daylight, while others reveled in a leading performance from on-the-verge indie darling Florence Pugh and the deadpan bro antics of her costar Will Poulter.
“Delightful from its nightmare of an opening to its floral purge of a finale,” said IndieWire’s David Ehrlich.
“I don’t know that I’ve ever felt so gutted and seen by a movie. I felt sick,...
