Summit Entertainment has added the second lead for its upcoming zombie love story, Warm Bodies.
Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class) was cast in the lead role of "an existentially tormented zombie named R" earlier this month, and now THR reports that Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four, Take Me Home Tonight) will play the girlfriend of one of R's victims and a military leader's daughter. The two eventually embark on an unlikely friendship as Palmer's character tires of the constant battles between zombies and humans.
Jonathan Levine (50/50) directed and adapted the screenplay for the movie, which is based on an upcoming novel by Isaac Marion. Marion's novel began as a short story called "I am a Zombie Filled With Love" which can be read here.
Warm Bodies isn't the only zombie love story in development. Screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno) is producing an adaptation of Breathers: A Zombie's Lament, based on the novel by S.G. Browne.

A unique event - a convention centered solely on the undead and “zombie culture” - took place here in the Emerald City. Organized by promoter Ryan Reiter (of “Red, White, and Dead” fame), this was an undertaking the size of which would have been bold for even an already established convention. For a first-time con, the scope of it was impressive, to say the least.
The guest list alone was one that would cause most promoters to lay awake at night fitfully worrying over logistics: George Romero, Bruce Campbell, Malcolm McDowell, Chuck Palahniuk (author, Fight Club), Max Brooks (author, World War Z), John Amplas (Martin, Day Of The Dead), Terry Alexander (Day Of The Dead), Scott Reiniger (Dawn Of The Dead) Ted Raimi (Spider-man), The Ladies of The Evil Dead (Theresa Tilly, Betsy Baker, Ellen Sandweiss), Danny Hicks (Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn), Timothy Patrick Quill (Army Of Darkness), the Zombie Research Society,...

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson may soon be lending their talents to a zom-com. The two are reportedly “loosely attached” to ‘Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament’ based on S.G. Browne’s 2009 novel of the same name. Diablo Cody, the hip and happening writer of Juno, is set to produce and Geoff Latulippe is scripting the adaptation.
The movie is a romantic comedy about Andy, a dead man who discovers himself newly re-animated as a mid-aged, decaying zombie who must figure out what it means to live as an Un-dead in a society that denies his kind basic rights.
The full synopsis goes like so -
Meet Andy Warner, a recently deceased everyman and newly minted zombie. Resented by his parents, abandoned by his friends, and reviled by a society that no longer considers him human, Andy is having a bit of trouble adjusting to his new existence. But all that...

Scarlett Johansson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are loosely attached to Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament, produced by Juno and Jennifer’s Body screenwriter Diablo Cody.
Pajiba reports the book by S.G. Browne and script by Geoff Latulippe has attracted the two stars, but no deals have been made without a director on board. Latulippe recently wrote this weekend’s romantic comedy flop Going the Distance.
The story follows Andy (Jg-l), “a recently deceased everyman and newly minted zombie” who comes to terms with his new existence in a society repulsed by him. Until he meets Rita, a sexy recent suicide, and Jerry, a 21-year-old car crash victim with an exposed brain and a penchant for pornography, at an Undead Anonymous meeting.
I am loving the concept and hope ScarJo and Jgl sign on the line. They’re two personal favorites and have the sort of nonchalant attitude needed to pull off a zombies-in-love story.

Zombie romantic comedy gets two name actors?
It's been a while since we heard anything about the Diablo Cody-produced adaptation of S.G. Browne's novel Breathers: a Zombie's Lament. Pajiba has a possible scoop on casting, and I say casting because it's hard to believe that it's true but we'll report it anyway: Scarlett Johansson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are "loosely attached" to the romantic comedy according to the site. The book tells the story of Andy, a man who finds himself to be reanimated as a zombie, and must learn what it's like to live (and love) when zombies are considered "less than" human. Awww. Johansson will likely play a love interest, which could mean that zombies will soon be considered as studly as vampires.
The script from Geoff Latulippe (Going the Distance) is going out to director's now, so we'll soon find out if the report is bupkiss or not.

Enjoy your zombie love stories? Course you do! You may remember a little while back Diablo Cody's ('Jennifer's Body', 'Juno') name being attached to Fox Searchlight's book to movie adaption project for S.G. Browne's novel 'Breathers: A Zombie's Lament'. Cody will be producing the new feature and news comes today that potentially two interesting lead stars could be involved. Pajiba are reporting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt ('Inception') and Scarlett Johansson ('Iron Man 2' - below) are 'loosely' attached! Scribe Geoff Latulippe has reportedly finished the script and with Diablo on board I guess this potential double casting isn't beyond the realms of believability. However, time will tell. 'Andy Warner reanimates after the car accident that kills his wife, but is too mangled from his injuries to talk. He lives in his parents' wine cellar, occasionally attending a zombie...

Last year we heard that Diablo Cody would be starting to expand her career from merely writing movies to producing them as well, and although she is listed as executive producer on both Jennifer's Body and her Showtime series United States of Tara, one of the first projects she will be overseeing without writing it herself is an adaptation of the book Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament. Written by S.G. Browne, it is a dark comedy about a guy named Andy who dies in a car crash but comes back to life as a zombie. Although initially bummed out about this change in lifestyle, he eventually falls in love with another zombie named Rita after meeting her at an Undead Anonymous meeting. Although we hadn't heard anything about this project in a while, it is apparently still in development, and now two pretty intriguing names just might end up starring in it.

Tired of zombies yet? Well, we definitely know who’s not! Juno and Jennifer’s Body writer Diablo Cody is working on a big screen adaptation of the S.G. Browne novel Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament, and Geoff Latulippe is writing the screenplay.
But, we heard that Scarlett Johansson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are “loosely attached” to star in the film that will follow:
“…Andy Warner, a recently deceased everyman and newly minted zombie. Resented by his parents, abandoned by his friends, and reviled by a society that no longer considers him human, Andy is having a bit of trouble adjusting to his new existence.
But all that changes when he goes to an Undead Anonymous meeting and finds kindred souls in Rita, an impossibly sexy recent suicide with a taste for the formaldehyde in cosmetic products, and Jerry, a twenty-one-year-old car crash victim with an exposed brain and a penchant for Renaissance pornography.

The rights for S.G. Browne’s romantic zombie comedy novel “Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament” were bought and optioned as soon as the book actually made it into print. Diablo Cody is going to produce the film from a script by Geoff Latulippe (“Going the Distance”). That was all the news until now. Apparently the script is finished, and there are some casting rumors. The current gossip around the water cooler is that Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who I can finally take seriously as an actor after “Inception”, and Scarlett Johansson, who I can’t, are both “loosely attached” to the film. The key word here is “loosely”. Pajiba, a site that has been wrong more times than right, is reporting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) and Scarlett Johansson (Iron Man 2) are loosely attached to Breathers: A Zombie's Lament, the Diablo Cody (Jennifer's Body, Juno)-produced feature film adaptation of S.G. Scar Jo and Jo Go in a film together? Now that’s a lot of young and attractive Hollywood talent to consume. And consume is what they may do, as the pair are rumored to be “loosely attached” to the big screen edition of Breathers: A Zombie Lament, the Diablo Cody-produced, Geoff Latulippe (Going The Distance) scripted adaptation of the S.G. Browne novel by the same name. Breathers centers around a man (presumably the role that could be filled by Gordon-Levitt) who dies only to find himself a reanimated corpse Aka zombie and the struggles that come along with being an undead rejected member of the society he once was a part of. Should the casting go as rumored, Johansson would play his love interest – a sexy suicide victim that he meets at a Undead Anonymous meeting. From there, the plot only gets more delectable.

It's been several months since we've gotten any sort of update on the Diablo Cody produced film version of S.G. Browne's debut novel, Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament, but today the Internet is buzzing with the news that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson are "loosely attached" to the project.

Undead Boy Meets Undead Girl in 'Breathers'
New details about Diablo Cody’s adaptation of S.G. Browne’s Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament surfaced today. The project, announced last February, has been laboring in development. Now, the script is being shopped to directors, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson are “loosely attached” to the project.
Breathers will be a zom-rom-com that follows a recently re-animated dead man as he “must figure out what it means to live as an Un-dead in a society that denies his kind basic rights” – while apparently also falling for a zombie girl.
Cody’s last film, Jennifer’s Body, was considered a bomb, so it’s hard to say who will sign on to direct. Though her stock may rise as her next film, Young Adult, which re-teams Cody with Juno director Jason Reitman, is generating buzz having landed leading lady Charlize Theron.

It’s being reported that Scarlett Johansson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are loosely attached to star in a new very cool sounding dark comedy called Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament. The film was adapted by Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody, from the book of the same title by S.G. Browne.
The story is a zombie romantic comedy that follows a character named Andy who discovers that he’s a decaying zombie. Andy goes through the process of trying to figure out how to live as a walking dead man in a society that denies his kind any basic rights.
This is a very interesting concept and an original take on the zombie genre. This should make for a solid film, and it would be great to see these two actors officially become attached to star in the film.

Zomboids have risen from the dead and taken over the world… of cinema! Yes, since Shaun of the Dead’s rom-zom-com, the living corpse has become a figure equalling kerching! in the eyes of production studios looking cash in on the popularity.
Now we have another rom-zom-com entitled Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament in the works. Pajiba have it Inception star Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Iron Man 2 hottie Scarlet Johansson will play the leads in an adaptation of S.G. Browne’s novel. So is this a case of 500 Days of Feasting On Human Flesh?
Diablo Cody is attached to produce the movie from a Geoff Latulippe script. Whether or not Gordon-Levitt and Johansson involvement is anything other than a figment of a journalist’s imagination remains to be seen. But Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a fine and rising actor who’ll make anything worth watching and Scarlet Johansson will attract people.

Undaunted by the disappointing performance of her first venture into the horror genre, screenwriter Diablo Cody has set her sights on the zombie rom-com Breathers: A Zombie's Lament. Describing the project to iF Magazine, Cody says,

With all the Twilight craziness occurring in pop culture, it seems like zombies will never get to that level because zombies aren't sexy and can't fit into a love story ripped off from William Shakespeare.

Some of you may remember that Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body) was producing the adaptation of Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament? by S.G. Browne. Looks like Cody now has a script for the tale of a guy that comes back to life after an auto accident that kills his wife only to learn that society does not welcome the fresh and not so freshly dead back to polite company. Told entirely from the perspective of the Zombie, we learn that eating human flesh is not the only thing a Zombie lusts after. Some Diablo quotes, courtesy of Scifiwire: Yeah, we have a script now,” Cody said in an exclusive interview. “Woo-hoo! It’s actually an incredibly awesome tight script, so we’re going to move forward, attach a director next and the whole lovely development process.” It’s funny, too: These zombies try to live normal lives in society. They even go to support groups.

The event, co-sponsored by Hot Topic and emceed by Shocktillyoudrop.com’s own Ryan Rotten (who did a stellar job, considering the core audience assembled seemed weighted towards fans of the band Panic!, who performed following the carpet festivities, and not horror), was attended by Jennifer’s Body and Oscar winner (for Juno) scribe Diablo Cody, who sported new platinum tresses and shoulder ink, as well as film stars Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. Also in attendance were Jennifer’s Body players Adam Brody and Johnny Simmons and the flick’s director,...

Pittsburgh, Pa has ten days before all hell breaks loose. That's because from September 18th through the 20th at the Crowne Plaza, those fine folks that put on ZombieFest have broadened their horizons into a new convention, now called "Horror Realm."
The convention will feature the usual fare of guests and vendors, but this one also has an emphasis on horror authors and artists with sponsors such as Library of the Living Dead and Permuted Press, Rue Morgue magazine, and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. The con also features horror author panels and a zombie film festival, as well as contests ranging from jello brain eating, scariest tattoo, hockey mask art, horror trivia, and costumes. There will also be demonstrations by the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and a flash fiction contest sponsored by Permuted Press, as well as a live production of Pittsburgh's hosted horror program It's Alive. Of course,...

- Variety confirms some one week old news, Fox Searchlight has found an "it girl" in Diablo Cody and with an Oscar win are willing to let her write, produce and perhaps one day direct for them. Searchlight has acquired rights to the upcoming novel "Breathers: A Zombie's Lament" by S.G. Browne with Cody on board to produce. This belongs to Hollywood's latest trend: mixing romance, youth culture with elements we normally associate with the horror genre: vampires and such. Giving a significant boost to the book's release next week, scripted by Geoff Latulippe (Going the Distance), "Breathers" centers on a recently deceased Everyman and newly minted zombie who is having trouble adjusting to his new existence. All that changes when he goes to an Undead Anonymous meeting and finds kindred souls. Mason Novick is also producing. ...

The film won Cody an Academy Award and was further nominated for another three awards including Best Picture and Best Director. Her next film "Jennifer's Body" stars Megan Fox ("Transformers"). "Breathers" tells of Andy Warner, a man turned zombie after a car accident that kills his wife. With injuries that completely destroyed his mouth, he can't talk and lives in his folks' win cellar. He joins a occasionally attending Undead Anonymous but discovers that the undead mean basically nothing and have no rights in society. Book is being published in March.
