Katy Keene and The CW are no longer a match. The Riverdale spinoff has been canceled after one season, TVLine has learned. The drama’s first season finale, which now serves as its de facto series finale, aired on Thursday, May 14.
Across its 13-episode freshman run, Katy Keene averaged just over a 0.1 demo rating along with 480,000 total weekly viewers (in Live+Same Day numbers). Out of the 16 dramas The CW aired in-season, it ranked 14th in both measures, besting only Dynasty and In the Dark (both of which were renewed back in January for the 2020-21 TV season).

This Katy Keene review contains spoilers.
Katy Keene Episode 10
“Maybe it’s time things change around here for the better.”
The #MeToo movement remains a defining moment in our culture. As such, it is more than understandable that we will see its impact reflected on television. These things are undeniably true.
Another fact: Katy Keene maybe should have left this subject alone.
As delightful as the series often is, it is one that only does a surface exploration of serious issues – which isn’t so much of a criticism seeing that this is a breezy, soap opera-style show instead of a For Your Emmy Consideration-esque drama. Still, it is somewhat disappointing that Me Too is used as fodder for a pair of storylines in this latest episode.
The primary plot involves Gloria being removed from her position at Lacy’s for arranging for “her girls” to give sexual favors to...

Someone left a batch of new VHS tapes around town, Mr. Honey nearly canceled the prom, and Hiram collapsed from his illness on Riverdale Season 4 Episode 17.
Below, TV Fanatics Meaghan Frey, Becca Newton, and Justin Carreiro debate the highlights from the "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" musical numbers, Kevin's opportunity for a spotlight episode, and the blooming romance between Betty and Archie.
The cast of Riverdale performed songs from "Hedwig and the Angry Inch." Which performance was your favorite?
Meaghan: Kevin strutting his stuff through the halls in full get up in protest against being held down. I loved Kevin so much at that moment! He straight up killed it!
Becca: Unlike Carrie: The Musical and Heathers: The Musical, I was familiar with Hedwig’s songs prior to this episode, and it did influence my feelings on the performances, so picking a favorite isn’t easy. That said, I...

What is Kevin Keller circa 2025 up to?
Katy Keene Season 1 Episode 10 will lift the lid on that as Casey Cott's character makes his way to the Riverdale spinoff this week.
The CW has dropped the latest trailer, which shows Kevin meeting Katy for the first time, but there's no telling what brings him to New York City.
If you watch Katy Keene online, you know Josie has been struggling to revive the Pussycats, and could use some assistance from Kevin.
The official logline for the episode teases that Josie has a falling out with the Pussycats, and it's not a surprise.
Josie hated the picks from Mr. Cabot, so she went off on her own to revive the band, even admitting that she didn't care about the Ep deal she had.
If Kevin can help her realize that she doesn't need to be bickering with members of the band...

A new musical has arrived at Riverdale High on Riverdale Season 4 Episode 17!
Riverdale loves its musical theater, and "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is a different take on the performances they've done so far. But, whenever the show is inspired by a musical, something bad happens in town.
Serial killer murders, cult arrivals, dramatic teen drama tied to coincidental songs ... everything is on the table. So, did Hedwig live up to the legacy of Riverdale's musical history?
"Wicked Little Town" captured the rebellious and edgy feel of the musical, with most of the characters and plots breaking free from their restrictions. However, the chapter felt disjointed at times as Riverdale tried to inject the songs/musical into the natural course of the story when it didn't fit.
Without the backdrop of a school musical where these songs could be played, the tone felt like Glee at times.

Created by veteran writer/artist Dan Parent in 2010, Kevin Keller was the first Lgbtq+ character in Archie Comics history. Kevin was an immediate sensation, and a further reminder of how welcoming of a place that Riverdale is. When the CW gave the comics a brooding makeover with Riverdale seven years later, Kevin made the jump to television as a core part of the series’ supporting cast . In the show, Kev has dealt with everything from getting involved with an organ-harvesting cult to having a one-time boyfriend die as a part of a murderous real-life role-playing game.
Yeah, Riverdale is wild.
Portraying the clean-cut high schooler with a penchant for hook-up apps is Casey Cott, a 27-year-old actor whose involvement on Riverdale was his first major role. Although Kevin has been sidelined for most of this season thanks to the recently resolved storyline about Jughead’s death, the character is back...

It's Kevin Keller's time to shine. Sure, tonight's musical episode of Riverdale has a lot to deal with in terms of typical core four drama and those mysterious video tapes that have been making their way around town, but it's Kevin (Casey Cott) who organizes a rebellion against Principal Honey when he won't allow anyone to perform a number from the musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch in the school variety show. It's also Kevin who gets to get all dolled up as Hedwig herself, and perform in the halls of Riverdale High. As you can see above, he looks awesome. "My Hedwig outfit was custom-made by our costume department," Cott tells E! News. "It was fun, 'cause Kevin kind...

Riverdale returns this Wednesday (The CW, 8/7c) with an all-new musical episode, and Kevin takes center stage in it, planning a school variety show in which he’ll do a number from the cult favorite Hedwig and the Angry Inch. There’s so much story in the CW’s “All American” that it has spilled out into the show’s commercial breaks.
Over the course of five separate episodes and many weeks, Microsoft has worked with the network to present outside-the-show “story stretchers” that add new details to specific plot elements while highlighting the technology giant’s Surface device. The company has also sponsored video extensions and storylines that make their way to Instagram.
Coop, the character played by Bre-z, over the course of several episodes shown in October, November and December, starts to write a song, “You Don’t Ask,” and then works to get it out to the public. But some of the plotline takes place in commercial-break segments and on Instagram, in an effort to give fans of the show more content and more story. The whole thing culminated in a bespoke music video that has been made available on YouTube.

If one thing was made perfectly clear after Riverdale Season 3 Episode 21, it's that most people don't leave The Farm in one piece. Enlightenment from this cult doesn't come without a price.
We always figured that The Farm was up to no good with their chants about togetherness and their brainwashing. What Betty discovered, on the other hand, was new levels of deception that made Edgar Evernever look like a deranged serial killer.
Anyone could be at risk heading into Riverdale Season 3's finale next week.
The secrets of The Farm were more serious than any one of us could've imagined.
Throughout all the possibilities that ran through our minds (from a financial con to a supernatural servitude for The Gargoyle King), organ harvesting hadn't been a top contender. This reveal took the cake with Riverdale's trend of twisting real-life issues with a dark, 50s-style charm.

Now that Comic-Con 2018 has come to a close, it’s time to take a step back and process everything we learned over the weekend about “Riverdale” Season 3.
First off, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa promised at The CW series’ panel in Hall H Sunday that fans can expect a flashback episode early on in the upcoming season, in which the kids play their parents.
We can also look forward to another musical episode following Season 2’s “A Night to Remember,” in which the high schoolers put on a production of “Carrie: The Musical.” Casey Cott, who plays Kevin Keller, told us all about that episode right over here. But we can expect more music outside of the next musical episode, too. Kevin and Josie (Ashleigh Murray) will be living together in Season 3, now that their parents are dating. Step aside, Archie, there's a new Riverdale heartthrob in town. Casey Cott, aka Kevin Keller, recently teamed up with Broadway star Jackie Burns for the latest installment of Wicked's "Out of Oz" series, and it's pretty magical, to say the least. The two sang a mashup of "Dancing Through Life" and "The Wizard and I" from the musical, and we can't help but melt over Cott's gorgeous vocals.
His insane singing skills shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, though. Not only did he attend Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, but musical theater is in his blood. His brother, Corey, is best known for playing Jack Kelly in Newsies and originating the role of Donny Novitski in Bandstand. Seriously, can we get more of Kevin singing during Riverdale season three? Or better yet, can Cott star in the upcoming Wicked movie adaptation? Please and thank you.

Last week, we were treated to a special musical episode of “Riverdale” as the kids of Riverdale High put on “Carrie: The Musical.” But even more disturbing than Cheryl Blossom covered in blood was Midge crucified to the play’s backdrop with this eerie message: “I am back from the dead, all those who escaped before me will die – B.H.”
The Black Hood warned Kevin Keller, who directed the production, of violence to come, and boy, did he deliver.
So now that the Black Hood is back, we’re revamping our old suspect list, because, let’s be honest, Mr. Svenson never seemed a likely candidate for the town terrorizer. We decided to put our best Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones investigative hats on to create a suspect list of our own.
Also Read: Watch a Deleted Cheryl and Toni Duet From the 'Riverdale' Musical Episode (Video)
Claudius Blossom
Ok, the first suspect on our list is Cheryl’s uber-creepy uncle Claudius Blossom. He told her a sob story about being estranged from her dad, Cliff Blossom, but we don’t trust anything he says. Especially after we see him and Cheryl’s mom, Penelope, conspiring to get rid of Cheryl and Nana Blossom.
It’s clear that Claudius wants some power in Riverdale, but we still don’t know much about him. Whatever he’s up to, he’s shady Af, and since he didn’t show up until after the Black Hood was supposedly caught by Sheriff Keller, he has no alibi to previous transgressions.
Hiram and/or Hermione Lodge
We don’t think that Hiram and Hermione are actually carrying out any of the Black Hood’s actions on their own, but we definitely wouldn’t put it past them to hire someone to be the Black Hood for them. Obviously, the Lodges are trying to take over Riverdale by buying up nearly every property and Hermione’s mayoral run. Could they have hired the Black Hood to terrorize Riverdale just so they could swoop in to “save” the town? We wouldn’t put it past them.

Sheriff Keller
One theory circling Reddit is that Kevin Keller’s dad is the Black Hood. It seems counterintuitive until you give it more thought. One Redditor pointed out that both Ms. Grundy and Fred Andrews were punished for their affairs, but Keller hasn’t: “The Hood seems to have a keen awareness of the sins committed by the citizens of Riverdale so unless Keller was responsible for every preceding murder then his unanswered blatant adultery leaves room for questions.” We have to admit, that’s pretty convincing. Others point out that because Keller’s storyline has been lax lately, it’s simply time for him to become more relevant.
Chic Cooper
To be honest, this seems too obvious, but we have to keep Betty’s long lost older bro on this list because he is so weird and mysterious.
Hal Cooper
Now that Hal has returned home with Betty and Alice, he seems a less likely candidate. But he’s still clearly salty as hell about the Chic situation and how it played out. He’s also still ultra shady considering his connection to Penelope Blossom. At this point, he also seems like too obvious a suspect. But he does have a similar build to the Black Hood we saw in the past.
A good argument for Hal, though: the Black Hood was communicating with Betty, and Hal is obviously Betty’s dad. He’s been feeling on the outside of the family for a long time now, and could have been using his daughter to take out his anger.

Could there be multiple Black Hoods?
As one Redditor put it, “a lot of people seem to neglect the sinners who are not being targeted and when looked at seems to paint a pretty clear picture.” Basically, this theory stems from the fact that the Black Hood says he wants to wipe out the “sinners” of Riverdale, but there are several people in Riverdale that aren’t targeted who are definitely sinners. The Black Hood’s true motives are a little unclear, so it would make sense if there were actually several people acting as the murderer.
Jughead Jones
Are you guys ready for the craziest theory yet? One theory, shocking if it ended up true, is that the Black Hood is Jughead Jones himself. First of all, he has those striking green eyes (though his build is way slimmer than the Black Hood we’ve seen). When all the Black Hood drama began, he and Archie had a strained relationship — and who was the Black Hood’s first victim? Fred Andrews, Archie’s dad. Fred and Jughead’s dad F.P. also have a strained relationship, which could add some motive.
Also, the Black Hood communicates with Betty exclusively for a while earlier on in the season. Juggie is one half of Bughead, after all, so who better to push all of Betty’s buttons?
Finally, Jughead desperately wanted to eradicate Jingle Jangle to keep Southside High and the Serpents from trouble, which would give him motive to take out the Sugarman.
When it comes to motive for murdering Midge during the musical, however, we’ll have to wait for more evidence.

All right, Kevin Keller, we have to ask -- what were you thinking?
When it comes to Kevin's (Casey Cott) directorial abilities, he is second to none. His production of Carrie: The Musical was spot on ... right up until that brutal on-stage murder. Because when it comes to producing a musical in Riverdale, you not only need to be able to flawlessly handle your cast's interpersonal drama, you also need to be able to accurately assess a threat from the Black Hood. When it comes to the latter, poor Kevin failed miserably.

The Riverdale musical episode was eventful for more reasons than the cast randomly breaking into song. The installment also saw the return of the Black Hood as he claimed his first victim since "Miss Grundy." After escaping an attack from the Hood, Midge Klump was murdered on stage of Carrie: The Musical. Yet this was after several notes from the Black Hood threatening Kevin Keller to replace Cheryl Blossom as lead for Midge. Presumably the Black Hood didn't want Cheryl replaced just because he (or she) is really passionate about the cast of high school musicals.

(Spoiler alert: Please don’t read if you haven’t watched Wednesday’s episode of “Riverdale” Chapter 31: “A Night to Remember”)
The anticipated “Riverdale” musical episode has come and gone, but we are still reeling from the music, the drama, and the return of the Black Hood (we warned you: spoilers!).
TheWrap caught up with Casey Cott, who plays Kevin Keller, ahead of Wednesday’s episode to discuss what it was like directing Riverdale High’s production of “Carrie: The Musical.” The actor said the Broadway play’s themes “matches the dark undertone” of “Riverdale.”
“There’s a really cool line in the beginning of the episode where Jughead [Cole Sprouse] asks Kevin why we’re doing ‘Carrie’ and Kevin has a really lovely response: that ‘Carrie’ really reflects the town that is Riverdale,” Cott said. “So I think that’s why he’s chosen that musical, about this really dark town, going through all these really dark things, and there’s nothing more ‘Riverdale’ than that, so it works perfectly.”

Although the special episode included a whopping 11 musical numbers, the cast didn’t have extra time to shoot it.
“We did it all in the same amount of time we do a normal episode, which is pretty insane,” Cott said. “Riverdale” isn’t shy when it comes to featuring music, but Cott said this episode was different than your average episode that features a song or two.
“Those musical episodes are pretty stationary, you know, they kind of happen on a stage,” the 25-year-old actor said. “Whereas a lot of these ones were happening in real time all over the [school] — all over, whether it was in the student lounge, the music room, or onstage, or in the theater … There are some similarities, but they are pretty different in the intricacy of shooting.”

And as for the Black Hood’s macabre return? Cott is “all about it.”
When Mr. Svenson was revealed as the Black Hood earlier this season, Cott said he found it “kind of lame.”
“I was like, ‘I really hope this is not the end of this guy,'” he said. “But he’s back in full force and it’s about to get rowdy. So just prepare yourself because it’s next-level from here on out.”

Read the rest of our interview with Cott below, which includes how Kevin ended up in an “iconic” powder blue tuxedo for opening night.
TheWrap: It seemed like Kevin was trying to bring all these friends back together with this musical. Is that true?
Casey Cott: I think that’s very true. I think you definitely hit the nail on the head. That’s very apparent in the episode. I think that’s part of it, but I also think Kevin is just obsessed with this musical and wants it to be epic. So it’s half and half.
What about “Carrie: The Musical” is Kevin obsessed with?
I think Kevin is just excited to be able to put on a musical. I think it’s less about this specific musical and more just musicals in general. But obviously, he’s chosen this one for this year, and I think it matches the dark undertone. There’s a really cool line in the beginning of the episode where Jughead [Cole Sprouse] asks Kevin why we’re doing “Carrie” and Kevin has a really lovely response, that “Carrie” really reflects the town that is Riverdale. So I think that’s why he’s chosen that musical, about this really dark town, going through all these really dark things, and there’s nothing more “Riverdale” than that, so it works perfectly.
There’s one line where Kevin says, “Am I directing a train-wreck here?!” Things just keep going wrong. But why is Kevin uniquely situated to handle these crazy situations as the director?
“I think of anyone in the show, Kevin seems to be the most loyal friend — minus that one little weird thing with [Betty’s brother] Chick — but I think Kevin’s the most loyal friend. He’s the most wanting everyone to get along. He loves the drama, but not with his friends. And I think he’s always just trying to rally the gang and keep them together. Keep them strong.”
Were you a theater kid growing up?
I’m a super theater nerd. I went to school for acting and theater, musical theater, and my brother [Corey Cott] is a Broadway actor. We’re a very musical family.
What’s your favorite musical and/or TV musical episode?
I don’t think I have a specific favorite one, there’s so many. I love Sondheim and I love Stephen Schwartz, I love all the shows my brother has done. He just did a show called “Bandstand” last year that I loved. As far as musical episodes, the one that stands out in my mind is the “Scrubs” episode .. I think the “Scrubs” episode is the one that stands out in my memory that I remember from many years ago that I really enjoyed. There’s so many, it’s kind of its own genre.
How much time did you spend doing choreography and practicing the musical numbers in addition to regular film time?
Actually, we didn’t have any extra time to shoot this one. We did it all in the same amount of time we do a normal episode, which is pretty insane. The amount of things you have to do on top of just shooting an episode like, the dance rehearsals, the recording sessions, it was gnarly. But luckily, our cast is just people you throw on something, and they’re like alright, let’s do it. Just jump in and we went bonkers, but it was so much fun. And hats off to the crew, too, because they stuck through it. I have never had more fun, it was such a blast, so we did a lot with very little time but I think it ended up well.
You guys are used to performing musical numbers sometimes on the show in regular episodes, did that help prepare you?
We do sometimes. Those are really isolated. So let’s say, Josie and the Pussycats have a number, they’ll go to the recording studio on a Saturday or something and record that, and then we’ll all shoot it together, but it’s a lot more simple than the things we were doing for this episode. And those musical episodes are pretty stationary, you know, they kind of happen on a stage. Whereas a lot of these ones were happening in real time all over the [school] — all over, whether it was in the student lounge, the music room, or onstage, or in the theater… There are some similarities, but they are pretty different in the intricacy of shooting. Like the technicalities of actually shooting those scenes.
So the biggest thing about this episode is obviously the ending, it’s insane.
You mean when Midge [Emilija Baranac] is crucified to the backdrop?
That’s even more shocking than Cheryl covering herself in blood. It just escalates. So, what do you think about the Black Hood being back in Riverdale?
I’m all about it. Like I was ready for it to strike back up — cause I never believed that that guy [janitor Mr. Svenson] was the Black Hood. I just thought it was kind of lame. I was like, ‘I really hope this is not the end of this guy.’ But he’s back in full force and it’s about to get rowdy. So just prepare yourself because it’s next-level from here on out. But I was really excited that they threw it in at the end of this episode, because there’s so much happening that it brings you right back to the plot. It served a purpose in that way.
I was impressed with how well the story of the Riverdale students was woven into the story of Carrie and vice versa.
Totally. [Showrunner] Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] is a genius.
The last thing I have to talk to you about is Kevin’s powder blue tuxedo that he wears on opening night.
Thank you! … I’m like ‘guys, that thing was iconic!’
It was so iconic. So let’s talk about it, how did that happen?
So I went in to a costume fitting and they had that one, and then this like kind of mahogany one that was fine, but when I put the powder blue one on, I was like, guys, this is straight out of ‘”Dumb and Dumber.” But also in the style of our show, Kevin is being serious. This, like, has to happen. And then they had that gigantic bow tie, and from there on out, it was like game over. But you know what’s funny? I wore that for like four days of shooting, and by the end I was very excited to not wear it again. But people were just having a field day. There are a lot of photos of me in that suit… I don’t think they had to alter it at all, it just kind of fit. Of all the costumes to wear, that’s the one that fit.
It’s exactly what I would imagine Kevin would decide to wear
To wear to be an audience member. Yeah, so like make sure everyone knows it’s his show.

Well, the Riverdale High musical went about as well as could be expected, and by that we mean that someone got murdered.
For the special episode airing Wednesday, the students of “Riverdale” staged a production of “Carrie: The Musical,” a Broadway musical adapted from Stephen King’s 1974 novel. Kevin Keller (Casey Cott) directed the play with Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) in the title role and Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick) as her religious mother Margaret. Or at least, that was the plan until Kevin continued to receive cut-and-paste death threats from the Black Hood (but didn’t he die?) demanding that Cheryl be replaced as the lead or else a very heavy sandbag would take her out of commission.

Another day, another Comic-Con schedule! Are you ready to plan out our Saturday at this years convention!? Once again there's a ton of great panels going on including Iron Man 3, Pacific Rim, Man of Steel, The Hobbit, Marvel TV, Django Unchained, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and more!
Saturday has shaped up to be a hell of a great day for those of you attending Comic-Con. I've put *** next to all of the panels that we want to attend, but like every year, I'm sure we'll be covering a lot more stuff.
We'll be wearing our GeekTyrant shirts, so if you see us walking around San Diego and the convention center, please stop and and say hi! We'd love to meet our readers. We will also be holding our annual meet-up on Wednesday night before the crazy geek storm.
Check out the schedule below and let us know what panels you'll be attending,...

Whitney Houston's final film, Sparkle, is still set for release this August. A remake of the 1976 film, it stars Jordan Sparks and contains new original music recorded by Houston.
My favorite part in this how-to guide about having sex with an alien is "Treat tentacles, for example, not as an obstacle, but an opportunity," but it's all pretty great.
Washington Governor Gregoire is set to sign the marriage equality bill today, kicking off the window for opponents to begin gathering signatures for a referendum to block fairness.
The Westminster Kennel Show has replaced Pedigree with Purina as an official sponsor because Pedigree's commercials about pet adoption were too sad for the show. Critics are also claiming that Pedigree's focus on getting homes for mixed breed dogs in shelters conflicts with the purebred mission of Westminster, who denies the charge. Purina's commercials will be full of wagging tails and ball chasing.

In news about shows I don't watch but people tell me I should, Michael Kenneth Williams is the new professor on Community this fall. You may remember him best as Omar on The Wire.
In discussing how Kevin Keller came to Riverdale, creator Dan Parent says while it happened organically, the impact has been huge in unexpected ways. "I think we sometimes overlook the parents of gay kids, and how they worry about their kids in society. And when there’s a positive gay role model in print or film, it can be meaningful to a family dealing with gay issues. As far as negative experiences, there are always the haters out there, but they’re not really worth the ink on this page, so who cares about them?"
