Two sources confirm to EW that the author/screenwriter/director of indie teen bible Perks of Being a Wallflower Stephen Chbosky will step aboard to script a new draft of Beauty, adapted from its 1991 animated form to an updated live-action version. It feels like we're somewhat overdue for a brilliant coming-of-age movie — if you count a year as being overdue (we're thinking of you Moonrise Kingdom). Deadline brings news that author-director Stephen Chbosky and Emma Watson (who worked together on The Perks of Being a Wallflower) are reuniting for a project that should satisfy your adolescents-and-rites-of-passage-narrative needs. They're teaming up with (500) Days of Summer scribes Michael H. Weber and Scott Neustadter for an adaptation of Adena Halpern's novel 29, retitled While We’re Young. Former Harry Potter actress Emily Watson has transitioned well from child actor to adult actor, choosing roles in a widening variety of genres over the last few years, and is currently filming Noah Baumbach.s latest comedic drama While We.re Young. So you might be surprised to learn that the latest movie Watson has signed on to star in is called. While We.re Young. It.s no typo, but it is a reteaming of Watson with her The Perks of Being a Wallflower director Steven Chbosky, who will be adapting the novel 29, When We Were Young by author Adena Halpern, reports Deadline. It.ll be great to have Chbosky directing Watson again, although this is an entirely different territory. Halpern.s novels are known for being very popular among females. With yesterday’s news that Emma Watson is reteaming with her The Perks of Being a Wallflower filmmaker Stephen Chbosky for While We’re Young, yet another literary adaptation for the duo (this time of a book by Adena Halpern), there comes both excitement and the lingering sense of “wait, that title sure sounds familiar.” It should – because Noah Baumbach just so happens to be in the middle of crafting his own film titled While We’re Young. Red alert, people, red alert. The popular title is not to be confused with the One Direction song “Live While We’re Young” (don’t let that header image fool you), the teasing comment your sassy grandma yells out when you take too long to drive her to bingo, or the Usga’s “pace of play pledge” that they’ve styled around the saying (golfers, what can you do?). But the saddling of two very different films with the...

After Stephen Chbosky received critical raves and awards consideration (though tragically no major nominations) for directing the stellar film adaptation of his landmark novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower, it’s easy to understand why he’s eager to continue working behind the camera in Hollywood. Today, Deadline announced that Chbosky’s next gig will be helming an adaptation of Adena Halpern’s 29: A Novel, currently titled While We’re Young. Emma Watson, who earned a People’s Choice Award for her lead role as Sam in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, is currently attached as one of the film’s two leads.

Youth is wasted on the young, especially Emma Watson apparently. The "Harry Potter" veteran is reuniting with her "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" director Stephen Chbosky for the 20th Century Fox film "While We’re Young," a spin on the timeless age-swapping subgenre. Based on the novel "29" by Adena Halpern, "Young" centers on a young-at-heart 75-year-old woman who magically gets to be 29 again. Shunning her dull 55-year-old daughter, the temporarily youthful woman instead spends an unforgettable day with her young adult granddaughter. Although Watson will star in the film, according to Deadline, although it's not clear which character she'll play. "(500) Days of Summer" writers Michael H....

Emma Watson Reteams With 'Wallflower' Director For 'While We're Young' (Not The Noah Baumbach Movie)
While we're still awaiting our Slut & The Falcon spinoff, we're just glad that Emma Watson and director Stephen Chbosky aren't waiting too long to work together after delivering last year's hugely enjoyable and somewhat underrated "Perks Of Being A Wallflower." It was the rare teen movie that got those years right, with lots of humor and heart as well, and now the pair are going to try something both youthful and a bit different. Deadline reports that Chbosky will take the helm of the Michael H. Weber and Scott Neustadter ("(500) Days Of Summer," "The Spectacular Now") penned adaptation of Adena Halpern's novel "29." Author Stephen Chbosky directed the adaptation of his own The Perks of Being a Wallflower, featuring a stellar performance from Emma Watson as she stepped away from the Harry Potter franchise. Her wish comes when she realizes that she has much more in common with her 29-year-old granddaughter than her 55-year-old daughter, and with her returned young age, she decides to go on an adventure with her granddaughter. 20th Century Fox have acquired the adaptation rights to Adena Halpern’s comedy novel, 29: A Novel.
Guys from Fox expect this one to be “an event movie for women” (whatever!), and at this moment we know that the whole thing will be produced by John Davis.
Yes, unfortunately that does mean no director or writer is attached yet, but at least you can enjoy the synopsis part:

So when she finds herself confronted with a cake full of candles, Ellie wishes more than anything that she could be twenty-nine again, just for one day.

As Christopher Campbell noted in his nightly news roundup, Fox has bought the rights to the book 29: A Novel, by Adena Halpern. I haven't read the book itself, but the book's premise of a 75-year-old who would like to be 29 once again is certainly relatable, if only to remember that, hey, being that age wasn't really all it was cracked up to be. (Why 29 was the age our protagonist Ellie Jerome chose to return to is beyond me. God, that year sucked.)
If they stick to the book, the movie will be powered by a predominantly female cast that spans the generations. There's Ellie, of course, as well as her granddaughter Lucy, her daughter Barbara, and Ellie's Bff Frida. That's pretty cool, in my opinion, even though I suspect the majority of the movie will follow Lucy and Ellie's adventures as 29-year-olds and not so much on Frida's search for her friend,...

20th Century Fox have acquired the adaptation rights to Adena Halpern’s comedy novel, 29: A Novel.
Body swap films come around once in a while, the 80s had Tom Hanks in Big, Fred Savage in Vice Versa and recently 17 Again and 13 Going on 30 continued the trend. 29: A Novel centres on a body-swapping protagonist, and has the potential to be a powerful comedy vehicle for an older Hollywood actress.
29: A Novel tells the story of Ellie Jerome, a 75-year-old woman who has employed every available artifice to remain young. Identifying more with her stylish young granddaughter, Lucy, than with her abrasive middle-aged daughter, Barbara, Ellie’s 75th birthday wish is to be 29 again, for just one day. When her wish comes true, hilarious problems arise, as the young Ellie must create a new persona in order to enter and leave her apartment in a neighborhood where everyone knows the old Ellie.

I admit, I've got a real weakness for the body-switching or wish-fulfillment fantasy movies like Freaky Friday and Big and 13 Going On 30 and 17 Again. You can blame me, then, for the fact that these kinds of movies seemingly never go away, and that practically every week a different studio thinks they've got the perfect fresh take on the old formula. Latest up to bat is Fox, which THR reports has picked up the movie rights to Adena Halpern's novel 29, about a 75-year-old woman who gets the chance to be 29 again for a single day. The novel, which was pegged to "certainly be made into a successful film" in the first line of this review, is apparently a comic caper right in line with the Big tradition; as the protagonist teams up with her granddaughter to enjoy her newfound youth, while her friends believe that she's been kidnapped and set...

Death sure is a mystery. Some believe in reincarnation, some think there is a heaven and hell, others believe that you just rot in the ground. Because we will never get a finite answer on the subject, there is an unending number of ideas in any genre that screenwriters can use to make an entertaining film. Well, gentle readers, we have another one. Date Night writer Josh Klausner, according to THR, has been tapped to write The Ten Best Days of My Life, an Amy Adams vehicle directed by Shawn Levy. Based on the book of the same name by Adena Halpern, the story follows a woman who, after dying, is sent to the upper-echelon of Heaven where she is told that she can only stay there if she can remember the ten best days of her life and prove that she lived a life worth living. I've never read...

Josh Klausner will adapt "The Ten Best Days of My Life" written by Adena Halpern. Fox is developing the film as a starring vehicle for Amy Adams as well as a directing vehicle for Shawn Levy ("Night at the Museum"). The book tells of a woman who dies and goes to the top of the afterlife echelon -- called Seventh Heaven. However, she is in danger of being demoted to a lower level unless she can prove that she has lived a worthwhile life by recounting her 10 best days. Penguin published the novel in May 2008. Adams is apparently making her debut on this as a producer and Levy is producing through 21 Laps.

Amy Adams is turning producer on her next project. The breakout star of Junebug, who's since gone on to bowl us over in Julie and Julia, Enchanted and Doubt, is clearly fan enough of Adena Halpern's novel My Ten Best Days that she wants to oversee its journey to the screen. That or she knows a starring role when she sees one.The novel is set in the afterlife: specifically Heaven, which is structured into seven levels, of which the seventh is the most desirable (meaning you can eat what you like and never get fat). Main character Alex wants to stay there with her Uncle Morris and her grandparents, in a perfect house that never needs cleaning, but is in danger of being demoted unless she can provide evidence of having lived a worthwhile life. Hence her homework essay on her ten best days. Now, we're slightly bummed...
