Special education teacher Karen Elaine Smith had had enough of her relationship with her husband, Cedric Anderson. Relatives say there were signs of trouble shortly after the couple wed on Jan. 28 at the Bethesda Temple Church in Los Angeles.
“He always showed his good side,” Karen’s mother, Irma Sykes, tells People. “He never showed the other side. Once they were married, he showed the other side.”
Police say Smith and Anderson, both 53, were married just two months before Smith packed her bags and moved out of their house in Riverside, California, in the middle of March.

Karen Smith doesn't come off as the sharpest tool in the "Mean Girls" shed, but that doesn't make her any less hilarious. Amanda Seyfried's now-iconic ditzy blonde won us over with her unique talents (she can stick her whole fist in her mouth!), her sweet naiveté, and her psychic abilities. It's like she has Espn or something. There's a reason we're quoting her endlessly to this very day. Here are 12 times Karen Smith was the best part of "Mean Girls."...

It could have done so well. All of the pieces seemed to be in place for something special. With two very popular actresses in Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox, Diablo Cody coming off an Oscar win for her Juno screenplay, and early press inviting comparisons to cult-favorite Ginger Snaps (2000), Jennifer’s Body (2009) was set to be one of the hits of early fall. 20th Century Fox, or rather the now-defunct Fox Atomic, even exploited Fox’s sex appeal in advertising, and at that time, if there were any truth to the old adage that ‘sex sells,’ then this film would have hit an adolescent goldmine – which would have meant good business for 20th Century Fox, given the film’s $16 million budget.
It didn’t pan out like most would have suspected. The film never found its audience, practically limping its way through its theatrical run and finishing with $31.6 million. Critics...

Amanda Seyfried has a fierce look in her eyes that tells you to watch out; she may be adorable, blonde and petite, but there’s an undercurrent of danger in every look and glance – one that positions her as somebody who shouldn’t be messed with… or underestimated.
Most folk first got to know Seyfried when she appeared alongside Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams in the 2005 teen flick Mean Girls, playing the unforgettable sidekick, Karen Smith, a dim-witted member of a bitchy group known as “The Plastics.” Thankfully, the success of Mean Girls didn’t result in Seyfried being typecast into playing an endless conveyor belt of “pretty but stupid” female roles – good call on that one, Hollywood!
In fact, Seyfried downright refuses to be pigeon-holed and has thrived in lots of films across a variety of genres ever since, be they musicals (Mamma Mia, Les Miserables), rom-coms (Dear...

"Trainwreck," the new Amy Schumer/Judd Apatow movie, examines the plight of one snarly woman as she exits her familiar world of sexual freedom and hangovers for a detour into serious romance. Though several eye-popping cameos and supporting performances buttress the film, Schumer's performance is the acting triumph of "Trainwreck." Without her shaky conscience and burgeoning sense of fulfillment, the movie's conventional story might feel staid. Thankfully, it's anything but. Schumer's performance marks a welcome addition to cinema's long line of strident, hilarious female protagonists. We're celebrating that lineage with a list: the 20 best female-driven comedies ever. Some are old and some are new, but all are marked by a degree of cosmopolitan fun and nerviness -- and the occasional slap from Cher. 20. "How to Marry a Millionaire" We remember Lauren Bacall as a glamor girl with a damning grimace, but let's start revising that narrative to include her chops as a comic force.

Amanda Seyfried has played iconic roles in her career, from Cosette in Les Misérables to Linda Lovelace in Lovelace, but to a generation she will always be known as Karen Smith.
Alongside fellow Plastics Regina George (Rachel McAdams) and Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert), Seyfried nabbed most of the best lines in the movie - but which is her favourite?

"God she's so dumb," Seyfried told us of Karen. "So blissfully ignorant. It's so fun to play that."

April 29, 2004: After Cady Heron was crowned Spring Fling Queen, peace was brought to North Shore High. Wednesday marks the 10th anniversary of Mean Girls, which is so fetch. That's right: It's been a decade since Gretchen Wieners taught us all a little slang from, like, England, and we're still trying to make fetch happen. If you recall, Regina George said it's not going to happen. But, then again, she also said those rules aren't real - except for that time Karen Smith wore a vest (because that vest was disgusting!). Anyways, we're not just going to sit around and let Caesar stomp around like a giant while the rest of us try not to get smushed under his big feet.

Mean Girls is proof that high school never really ends. Ten years ago today, Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) went from "home-schooled jungle freak" to "regulation hottie" shortly after she began her junior year at North Shore High School. To honor of the film's legacy, several of its stars—including screenwriter Tina Fey, who played Ms....

Happy birthday to one of our favourite cult teen classics Mean Girls, which turns 10 today (April 30).
The Tina Fey co-written comedy spawned some of the funniest, most memorable - not to mention impossibly 'grool' - scenes and one-liners, which we're still quoting a decade on.
So to celebrate the movie's milestone, we dig out 22 of our favourite fetch moments below:
1. Damian's face full of processed meat
2. "Your mum..."
Because let's face it, 'your mum' gags are never not funny. Especially when delivered as deadpan as this.
3. "Bye Jason."
You can go shave your back now...
When fellow North Shore pupil - and object of Gretchen Wieners's indiscreet desire - Jason asks Cady is she'd like to be assigned someone to butter her muffin - i.e him, and most definitely a euphemism - Regina publicly shames him with a simple instruction before bidding him farewell.

In case you didn't realize that "Mean Girls" is having a moment, what with its jewelry line and everything, this video proves that it's a perennial (millennial) favorite.
Model/musician Amber Rose, who claims to have been a "super nerd in high school," recruited a few friends to recreate the famous four-way phone scene from one of her favorite movies. The movie starred Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron, the former nerd who's herded into popularity, Lacey Chabert as the neurotic Gretchen Wieners, Amanda Seyfried as the, uh, talented Karen Smith, and Rachel McAdams as the lead Mean Girl Regina George. Regarding the title, what we really meant to say was: this is the only video you need to watch today…unless there is some video of Justin Bieber crying in his prison cell or something. But even then, this Pet Collective video of Mean Girls reenacted by kittens is pretty outstanding. The group that brought us Elf and The Lion King in cat form has come up big once again with the Tina Fey-Lindsay Lohan classic. And we're going to make a real bold statement here: this might be their best cat parody yet. All the best moments from the film are there, but tweaked in the most adorable fashion. For example, Karen Smith's character asks "Catty" that if she's from Africa, why isn't she a lion?...

Give it up for Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, who publicly thanked “my family, my longtime girlfriend Amber, and my friends” on Facebook after going through a bone marrow transplant. Congrats to the Espn vet for coming out to fans and the Facebook-savvy public! To celebrate, let’s discuss our favorite female news-reporting characters from TV and film. I’ve squeezed in a print journalist for the sake of her glamor. Please forgive that.
1. Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox): Scream‘s curt correspondent with the poison pen
As much as I love Scream, Gale Weathers elevates the franchise from “quippy horror romp” to “fabulously quippy horror romp.” She writes callously about the Woodsboro murders, brags to Sidney Prescott about the sales of her book (which is about Sidney’s mother’s death), and even totes a gun. “Guess I didn’t forget the safety that time, you bastard,” she deadpans.

Amanda Seyfried's profile has been growing pretty steadily since her days as Karen Smith in "Mean Girls." Last year, she starred in a Best Picture nominee, "Les Misérables," and this year, she has a head-turning role that some critics at Sundance predicted could earn her some Oscar attention.
In "Lovelace," Seyfriend stars as the woman behind one of the most controversial movies of all time, "Deep Throat." Linda Lovelace rose quickly to stardom but suffered through one terror of a marriage before becoming an anti-porn activist.
The first trailer for "Lovelace" does a great job of setting the 1970s era of the film, as well as showing off what should be strong performances from both Seyfriend and Peter Sarsgaard, who plays Lovelace's husband Chuck Traynor.
Check out the trailer after the jump!
"Lovelace" opens in limited release on August 9.

Actress Amanda Seyfried rose to prominence in two vastly different supporting roles, that of Karen Smith in Mean Girls and Lilly Kane in Veronica Mars. Her increasing profile has led to bigger roles, from the tv show Big Love to movies such as Red Riding Hood, Les Miserables, and Chloe. Many fans were thus interested to learn that Seyfried had been tapped to play the lead in a biopic of Linda Lovelace, joining a cast that includes Peter Sarsgaard, James Franco, Hank Azaria, Bobby Cannavale, Sharon Stone, Juno Temple, Adam Brody, Eric Roberts, and Robert Patrick. The film, titled Lovelace, is written by Andy Bellin, and directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, and the first trailer has now been released, and can be seen below.

As if the first go-around wasn't terrifying enough, don’t worry — part two is on the prowl.
That’s right. Director James Wan returns to scare the s**t out of us again with "Insidious: Chapter 2," the sequel to the 2011 flick. While the film will not be released until Sept. 13, the trailer provides enough thrills to tide us over. Wan's throwing everything at us this time, even a crazy zombie bride casually sitting in a living room. The humanity!
The movie's trailer premiered this week, creepy "SpongeBob"-sounding music and all. Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins and Barbara Hershey all reprise their roles in the sequel, which follows the Lambert family to a new home and new paranormal struggles. It seems as if the angry spirit who traumatized this family didn't quite get its fix in 2011. It returns to bring this hot couple (Wilson and Byrne — muy caliente!

When comedic genius Tina Fey divulged her hopes to turn her 2004 film “Mean Girls” into a musical during an interview with Entertainment Weekly last September, there were a few ripples of excitement amongst the millennial set. In March, however, when her husband Jeff Richmond—who is composing the score—confirmed that the production was moving forward, one could almost hear the fans shrieking in anticipation. And now, everyone from Fey to Buzzfeed to former cast members are giving their two cents on the casting for the “Mean Girls” musical. On the red carpet at the SAG Awards in January, Fey told E! News that Mariah Carey could be a good choice to play queen bee Regina’s mother, a role that Amy Poehler made her own in the film. Buzzfeed listed their “11 Dream Castings for ‘Mean Girls’ the Musical,” which included Samantha Barks as Lindsay Lohan’s Cady Heron and...

Guess who's excited about the potential "Mean Girls" musical?
According to Allure magazine, Amanda Seyfried -- the "Les Misérables" actress who played the ditzy blonde character Karen Smith in the "Mean Girls" movie -- has been eagerly awaiting an announcement that the stage adaptation of everyone's favorite 2004 teen comedy is actually happening.
She reveals to Allure she's not too keen to pick up where Plastic member Karen left off. Instead she wants to grab Rachel McAdams' former role as the vicious and vain Regina George. "I desperately want to be Regina," Seyfried says.
The actress went on to reveal some juicy tidbits about her past cast mate, Lindsay Lohan. But all we're concerned about is the fact that "Espn"-endowed Karen wants to switch places with teen queen Regina. Our world is turning upside down!

While talking to E! Online on the red carpet at the SAG Awards, Tina Fey mentioned that she thought Mariah Carey could star in her Mean Girls musical. (She told EW of her plans to turn her hit film into a musical back in our September cover story.)
“Maybe she can play Amy Poehler’s part,” Fey joked, after discussing Mariah’s knowledge of the film.
Mariah Carey as Mrs. George? She certainly has the singing voice for the role. But who else would we cast in our perfect production of Mean Girls?

Amanda Seyfried has revealed that Mean Girls is the film she is most proud of in her career. Seyfried had her commercial breakthrough in 2004's Mean Girls, in which she played the ditzy and impressionable Karen Smith. Speaking to IndieWire, the actress said she is eternally grateful to have starred opposite Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams in the Tina Fey-written film. "I was so innocent. I was so green," Seyfried recalled. "I still look back at Mean Girls as my best work."

Despite being fresh off an Oscar-nominated film (Les Miserables), Amanda Seyfried apparently holds a soft spot for her breakout film Mean Girls, calling it her "best work" to date.
"I was so innocent. I was so green," reflects Seyfried in an interview with Indiewire. "I still look back at Mean Girls as my best work."

Actor's two very different roles - in Les Misérables and Lovelace - look like winning over the critics and box office alike
Amanda Seyfried has the face of an extra terrestrial. An extremely pretty extra-terrestrial, mind, with huge eyes and small features framed by a head of expensively coloured and rolled blonde hair. To complete the look, she sits ensconced in an enormous white towel, to combat the aggressive air conditioning of the hotel we're in. "I've done eight junket days already," she says, "but I would lay on a street naked for this movie."
This movie is Les Misérables, and its relentless publicity trail has taken her to Toyko, New York, La and now London, before it's back to New York then La and countless other cities, as the awards season hots up and the leading films' actors try to jazz-hand their film into acclaim.

Nothing says Christmas like... a sexy Santa costume.
Ok, maybe not. But we did recently discover that sexy Christmas costumes are a thing, from festive pasties to yuletide man-thongs. Who knew sassy Santas actually existed in real life, outside the confines of the "Mean Girls" set?
Because really, the best Christmas costumes of all are the latex Santa Claus get-ups worn by Cady Heron, Regina George, Gretchen Wieners and Karen Smith in the beloved teen movie from 2004. Christmas isn't complete without a viewing of the Plastics' "Jingle Bell Rock" performance in all its inappropriately saucy glory.
Cue the boombox, Gretchen.

He sees you when you’re sleeping… He knows when you’re awake… He knows if you’ve been bad or good… So be good for goodness sake!
Although the lyrics to the well-known Christmas song is beginning to sound creepy, you cannot deny that it is the season to be jolly (or get trolleyed in some cases) as Santa Claus is coming to town (and most likely to a screen near you).
To get into the festive spirit I have compiled a list of Top 10 Santa Clauses On Film… I’m sure you probably think you have guessed all the typical upcoming choices, and perhaps quite rightly so,...

One of our favorite holiday movies at AfterEllen.com is Mean Girls. It kicks off Halloween and carries us right through Christmas. So while we're tucking away our slutty mouse costumes and breaking out our slutty santa suits, we thought we'd check in with the women who starred in the most quotable movie of all time. Mean Girls: Where Are They Now?
Rachel McAdams (Regina George)
Mean Girls mantra: "Get in, loser; we're going shopping."
Post-high school heroics: Right after high school, Rachel McAdams starred in a little film you might have heard of called The Notebook. Something about a rainstorm and kissing and Ryan Gosling. And then another little film you might have heard of called Wedding Crashers. These days she kisses whomever she wants and crashes whatever weddings she wants and stars in whatever rom-coms, dram-coms, and action-coms she damn well pleases.

The career paths of most former “child stars” are usually clearly set by their early twenties. In the case of Amanda Seyfried, after playing the necessarily simple part of Karen Smith in Mean Girls, she had more or less settled into a steady stream of prestigious Us television series broken up, on occasion, by minor film roles. However, having been cast in the title role in the upcoming Red Riding Hood, it appears that Miss Seyfried is now in demand as a leading lady in the fickle world of Hollywood cinema and has been signed up to star in Heitor Dahlia’s thriller, Gone.

“God Karen you’re so stupid!” high school tyrant Regina George exclaimed to her daft minion when she stupidly suggested that they go to Taco Bell. (She was just trying to cheer her up!)
