It doesn’t really surprise us when the likes of Luis Suarez, Sergio Aguero or Robin Van Persie score a world class goal or grab a hat-trick in the Premier League. It doesn’t really surprise us when the likes of David Silva, Aaron Ramsey or Juan Mata slot a perfectly weighted through-ball to assist one of these goals. It doesn’t really surprise us when the likes of Yaya Toure, Steven Gerrard or Eden Hazard produce that moment of magic to change a game.
But which players are capable of exerting their own special influence on a game, yet go largely unnoticed in comparison? Which players are perhaps not so well-known or recognised, yet are equally important to their clubs?

Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis is plotting an audacious loan move for Chelesea’s out-of-favour Demba Ba this month, according to the Mirror.
The Eagles boss is desperate for reinforcements up front and has maintained an interest in Ba since his days as manager of Stoke City.
The Senegal striker came close to joining Pulis at the Potters in 2011 but failed his medical and ended up at West Ham instead.
His stay with the Hammers was short-lived and he moved on to Newcastle after less than six months, scoring 21 league goals for the Magpies before joining Chelsea last January.
But Ba has found life difficult in west London and has made just eight Premier League appearances under Jose Mourinho this season, the majority as a substitute.
With Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o both above the 28-year-old in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge,...

Can Manchester City keep up their 100% home record when Crystal Palace visit the Etihad in the Premier League on Saturday?

Manchester City could welcome Matija Nastasic back into the starting line-up following an eight-game lay-off with a calf injury. The Serb was on the bench against Liverpool on Boxing Day.
Top scorer Sergio Aguero has a calf injury of his own and remains out, as do Micah Richards and Stevan Jovetic (both hamstring) while Martin Demichelis is a doubt after pulling up in training.
Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis has no fresh injury concerns.
Midfielders Kagisho Dikgacoi and Stuart O’Keefe are continued doubts after sustaining a knock and a thigh injury, respectively, while long-term absentees Jerome Thomas, Adlène Guédioura and Glenn Murray remain sidelined.

The Eagles are viewed as the Premier League whipping boys this season. With how newly-promoted compatriots Cardiff & Hull City have performed early on this campaign, Palace won’t want to be the only side going straight back down in the Championship. However, with their main striker Marouna Chamakh making just two shots in the 10 games he’s featured in, it certainly highlights what a difficult task the side has to stay in the division.
On the flipside, Everton are pushing for the Europa League places in the league, and finally look to have settled under manager Roberto Martinez. Striker Romelu Lukaku has been to thank for their bright start, as the Belgian striker has five goals in as many league starts for the Toffees this season.

After the two-week international break, Premier League football returns on Saturday with a lunchtime matchup between Manchester United and Crystal Palace. Champions against play-off champions, this match may seem a walkover for United at home, but poor results against Chelsea and Liverpool, followed by a farcical transfer window, have contributed to a less-than-rosy start for David Moyes’ team. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace comes to Old Trafford after an impressive 3-1 home victory against Sunderland and a number of roster changes following a frantic deadline day.

Marouane Fellaini, signed from Moyes’ former team Everton on deadline day, looks set to make his home debut in United’s midfield. Crystal Palace are hoping to continue their run as the Premier League’s busiest club in this transfer window by signing old boy Andy Johnson from Qpr, according to the club chairman.
Johnson notched 21 goals in 37 appearances for the Eagles during their one-year stint in the Premier League but couldn’t keep Palace from the relegation trap door.
And speaking to Radio Five Live, chairman Steve Parish confirmed that the club had made a bid for the club’s top scorer during their previous Premier League season in 04/05 before announcing that deal might not be the end of their window. Parish said:
“We have made a bid for Andy Johnson we are waiting to hear, that would be a permanent deal. We are trying to get someone else in on loan and we are trying to buy another one as well.”

Palace will be missing last season’s top scorer Glenn Murray, who is out with a serious knee injury, while Wilfried Zaha has moved to Manchester United following a season in which he was instrumental to Palace’s promotion push, so the goalscoring mantle will likely fall to new signing Marouanne Chamakh. Veteran Kevin Phillips, now in his 40th year, will likely start from the bench.
Captain Paddy McCarthy is back in training but will not be ready for this match, while Yannick Bolasie is also out injured. New signing Jerome Thomas will miss the game with an ankle injury sustained against Lazio last weekend.

A preview of Crystal Palace’s Premier League season including ‘player to watch’ and position prediction.
Crystal Palace
It has hardly been the ideal preparation for their return to the Premier League after an 8 year absence, with manager Ian Holloway becoming increasingly frustrated with the process of player recruitment. Back in the big time, Palace are being linked to a plethora of players on a daily basis. It is hard for fans to get too excited as it is obvious that many of the links are either a result of lazy journalism or agents desperate to get their prized assets in the shop window. In a recent interview following a link with Celtic defender Efe Ambrose, Holloway admitted to not knowing who he was.
One player who has been constantly linked is Arsenal’s forgotten man, Marouane Chamakh (Editor’s Note: A player who had a medical at Palace on...

Watford have no injury concerns and manager Gianfranco Zola has a fully-fit squad to select from.
Daniel Pudil and Matthew Briggs will each be hoping to get the nod at left wing-back while Jonathan Hogg and Cristian Battocchio will similarly contest a spot in Zola’s midfield.

Championship mid-table side Crystal Palace have put out Premier League Champions Manchester United of the League Cup in a pulsating game at Old Trafford. Palace beat United 2-1 after Extra Time with a marvellous, heroic performance against a poor, predictable United team.
It was a lively first half that did not yield too many chances, but plenty of talking points. Palace started off arguably the better side, influenced heavily by the lightening runs and trickery of prospect Wilfried Zaha. Their enthusiasm took United’s weakened side by surprise, and it had to be Zaha who had the first chance of the game, breaking into the box but firinh the ball high over the bar.
Berbatov carved open Palace’s defence to create United’s first chance. Intricate passing outside the box saw the ball looped in by Darren Gibson for Berbatov, his half-volley trickling slowly wide. United struggled to create...

Tim Hill, who also just signed for the "Short Circuit" remake, has signed onto direct "Walter the Farting Dog" for Paramount Pictures reports Risky Biz Blog.
Based on the children's novel series by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray, the story centers on a family who has to put up with their increasingly flatulent dog.

It's been reported today that the director of Hop, Tim Hill, is in talks to direct Walter The Farting Dog. The movie is going to be produced by Mary Parent and the Farrelly Brothers. The Farrelly’s were originally set to direct the film when it was at Fox, but now that the plans have changed now that the film is over at Paramount.
Here is what THR had to say about this film:
Walter is based on a series of children's books written by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray, and illustrated by Audrey Colman, about a family living with an exceedingly flatulent dog. Toy Story co-writers Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow have written the screenplay adaptation.
I have never heard of this book series, I'm not even a big fan farting dogs, but it sounds like something any kid would like to watch. Let us know what you think.

It pains me to say this, but apparently Tim Hill, the director of Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Hop, is apparently is high demand. Just yesterday it was reported that the filmmaker has been hired by Dimension Films to helm a remake of Short Circuit and now he's landed yet another gig. THR has it that Hill has been selected and is currently in negotiations to helm Walter the Farting Dog for Paramount Pictures. The Farrelly brothers, who were attached to direct while the project was still over at Fox, will now serve as producers along with Mary Parent, the former worldwide motion picture group chairman at MGM. Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow, who wrote the Garfield sequel that Hill also directed, wrote the script based on the books by William Kotzwinkle, Glenn Murray, and Audrey Colman. Alvin and the Chipmunks and Hop director Tim Hill looks like he's lining up a busy schedule. Just yesterday it was announced that Hill would tackle the reboot of the Short Circuit franchise and, today, The Hollywood Reporter has word that he's been approached about helming Walter the Farting Dog . Based on a best-selling series of books by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray about a fat dog with severe flatulence, the film adaptation was first announced nearly three years ago when the property was at 20th Century Fox. There, it was being planned for the Farrelly Brothers to direct and the Jonas Brothers to star. With a script by Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, the property is now in development at Paramount and is likely open to be recast.
