Over a year ago, a trailer was released for director Jon Wright’s creature feature Unwelcome – and at the time, we were told the film would be receiving a theatrical release in March of 2022. That didn’t happen, but now our friends at Bloody Disgusting have been able to confirm that Well Go USA Entertainment is planning to give Unwelcome a theatrical release on March 10th, with a PVOD release to follow on March 14th. Unwelcome is also set to reach theatres in the UK and Ireland on January 27th. We’ve been waiting for this movie for a while, and it looks like the wait is almost over.
Originally announced under the title The Little People and described as “Gremlins meets Straw Dogs“, Unwelcome stars Hannah John-Kamen of Ant-Man and the Wasp, the Netflix series The Stranger, and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City). The film centers on a...

IFC Films has picked up the North American rights to The Lost King ahead of its debut at the Toronto Film Festival.
The film reunites the team behind 2013’s Philomena — Stephen Frears, Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope — for a comedy-drama based on a true story about Philippa Langley, played by Sally Hawkins, and the historian who helped uncover the remains of King Richard III, lost for more than 500 years, beneath a carpark in the English city of Leicester.
The discovery, in 2012, was the culmination of years of obsessive research by Langley, who faced the incomprehension of friends and family and the derision of experts and academics, and whose role was largely overlooked. Coogan will play Langley’s husband and Frears will direct from a script co-written by Coogan and Pope.

IFC Films is acquiring North American rights to Stephen Frears’ drama The Lost King, starring Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) and Steve Coogan (The Trip), ahead of its world premiere at the 47th Toronto Film Festival.
The film reuniting Frears with writers Coogan and Jeff Pope—who adapted the script for his 2013 dramedy Philomena—tells the remarkable true story of amateur historian Philippa Langley (Hawkins), who was behind the real life discovery of King Richard III in 2012 after the remains had been lost for 500 years. Langley spent years researching and searching for the remains, in spite of skepticism from friends, family and academics. Her story is one of a woman who refused to be ignored and who took on the country’s most eminent historians, forcing them to think again about one of the most controversial kings in England’s history. IFC Films nabbed North American rights to “The Lost King,” which will have its world premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival.
Directed by Stephen Frears, the feel-good true story stars Sally Hawkins as Philippa Langley, an amateur historian who uncovered the remains of King Richard the III after they had been lost for 500 years. Langley spent years researching — and searching — for the remnants, even when family, friends and academics openly doubted her.
Steve Coogan (who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Pope) is playing Philippa’s husband, John Langley. “The Lost King” reunites Frears with Coogan and Pope, who previously teamed on the Oscar-nominated “Philomena.”
“I’m delighted that ‘The Lost King’ has found a home in North America with IFC Films,” Frears said. “It was hugely enjoyable to work again with Steve and Jeff and we were blessed with an incredible performance from Sally. Toronto is always...

The 65th BFI London Film Festival, which concluded Oct. 17, attracted crowds for in-person events and virtually. The festival unspooled over 12 days across London venues, 10 partner cinema venues around the U.K. and online. While companies such as ITV Studios, Banijay and Fremantle are either bowing out or reducing their presence at the Oct. 11-14 Mipcom market in Cannes — and the AFM has gone entirely online — Mia seems to be succeeding in luring a robust group of international industry heavyweights. They are also boasting a 30% increase in completed films screening on its film market side while some 80 new European film, TV and doc projects will be pitched to prospective partners.

Pathé has dropped a first-look image from “The Lost King,” the upcoming feature film about the astonishing 2012 discovery of King Richard III’s remains. In the film, Oscar nominated and Golden Globe winning actress Sally Hawkins will play Philippa Langley, the woman who uncovered the remains which had been lost for 500 years.
An amateur historian, Langley spent years researching and searching for the ruins, in spite of skepticism from friends, family and academics. She is now president of the Scottish branch of the Richard III Society, and co-authored, with Michael K. Jones, “The King’s Grave: The Discovery of Richard III’s Lost Burial Place and the Clues It Holds.”
Hawkins is joined on-screen by Steve Coogan (“Alan Partridge”), who plays Philippa’s husband John, and Harry Lloyd (“Brave New World”) as King Richard III. Stephen Frears is directing the screenplay co-written by Coogan and Jeff Pope in a...

Rome’s growing Mia market, dedicated to international TV series, feature films and documentaries, is on track to take place as a mostly in-person Oct. 13-17 event, for which a robust clutch of top U.S. and European execs are expected to make the trek.
“We are getting a great response: lots of confirmations and great willingness to attend,” said Mia director Lucia Milazzotto (pictured), adding that pulling off last year’s market in the Eternal City as a partly physical event “when the pandemic situation was a lot worse” has “certainly paid off” in terms of getting people to attend this year.
Despite concerns about the Delta variant, certified vaccinations are expected to ensure a measure of safety for the event in October.
