Words can’t even express our excitement to share the news that Save Ferris are back and releasing their first original song since 2017! The group has revealed a new holiday single called “Xmas Blue” a lonely Christmas tale of a heart longing for a loved one who is not there.
Save Ferris leader Monique Powell said, “I wrote the song about someone I knew that went through a hard divorce, and even two years later was still so obsessed with his ex-wife that it was borderline stalking.”
Powell added, “I’m excited to give this present to fans as a warmup for what is to come in 2024 with all new music that I’ve been working on and is ready for release!”
Save Ferris teamed with the newly-launched music community platform We Are Giant to give fans a preview of the release.

It’s become something of a habit for new Alamo Drafthouse theater locations to be given a theme – and the latest in the Austin, Texas-based chain is no different. The new Alamo Drafthouse Wrigleyville, their first theater in Illinois, will be dedicated to iconic Chicago filmmaker John Hughes, TheWrap can exclusively reveal. The dedication ceremony will take place Thursday, before the theater opens to the public on Friday.
The plaque for the new theater reads:
“John Hughes Cinema
Director John Hughes has left an indelible mark on our collective consciousness with witty, charming, and heartfelt films like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles. In Ferris Bueller’S Day Off, he perfectly captured the mischievous and carefree spirit of youth through one teen’s epic day playing hooky, cementing Chicago as a cinematic playground in the process. Because of his incalculable influence on cinema, as of Thursday, January...

Considering it's where most of us (bar the weird home-schooled kids) spend our crucial formative years, where we have our first fights, our first loves, our first tentative steps into adulthood, it's no surprise that high school has long been a popular setting for movies. A range of genres (though generally leaning towards comedy) have taken place in those hallways, particularly from the 1980s onwards, when John Hughes, among others, made an entire career out of the lives and loves of 15-18 year olds.
The latest film to head back to class is "21 Jump Street" (review here) the big-screen reboot of the '80s TV show, which stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as youthful-looking cops who are sent back to high school in order to bust a drug-running ring. While you might assume this to be another lazy remake, you'd be very wrong, as Tatum, Hill, co-writer Michael Bacall,...

It seems this is a teaser for a Super Bowl ad -- yes, you read that right: it’s a teaser for a commercial -- featuring Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller. I don’t even care what it’s for: it’s just nice to see Ferris again. Let the guessing begin: What’s the ad gonna be trying to sell us? What is Ferris’s story today? I bet he’s in advertising, and he himself conceived of reviving his own notoriety -- for everyone remembers how the Save Ferris campaign of 1987 rocked America -- to sell us SUVs or chicken nuggets or domain-registration services or the War with Iran. Cuz one thing is for sure: Ferris sold out first chance he got, and is totally into isms these days, with consumerism right at the top of the list. Via Cinemart.

A decade ago, I helped oversee a “table read” at the HBO offices in Century City of an exciting new screenplay, "Save Ferris," a parody/sequel to the legendary John Hughes’ movie, "Ferris Bueller’s Day Off." The organizer was an aspiring producer, Holly Wiersma ("Factory Girl," "Wonderland") who had talked almost the entire cast of the then-new “That 70’s Show” into reading. She had help: The HBO producer involved was legendary sports announcer Jim Lampley. (How do you think we got such swanky offices for a table read?) But it was only in...

"What is so dangerous about a character like Ferris Bueller is he gives good kids bad ideas." - Ed Rooney
"Ferris Bueller's Day Off," teen bard John Hughes' timeless ode to seizing the moment, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. That's 25 years of playing hooky, singing "Danke Schön" and impersonating Abe Froman. The 1986 comedy continues to strike such a deep chord because its trio of resourceful high schoolers represents more than just a case of senioritis -- it's about taking time out to smell the roses, even in Chicago.
Just to recap for the three or four of you who haven't seen it, "Ferris Bueller" centers on the perpetually cool title character (played with joyful, fourth-wall-breaking precision by Matthew Broderick) for whom the stars always seem to align. Everything is not so perfect for his best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck), who revels in a catatonic stupor after suffering...

Many movies barter sentimentality to the audience with what strikes me as irresponsible abandon – the latest Nicholas Sparks novel adaptation is an easy target, but it is a fine line between appearing genuine and forcing manipulative drivel down (unfortunately) willing throats. The presence of authentic sincerity should be treasured and regarded as a rarity, and that’s what makes Adam Elliot’s Mary and Max such a surprising film just shy of masterpiece status.
Written, directed and designed by Elliot, who won an Oscar in 2004 for the 23-minute animated short Harvie Krumpet (which is included on this DVD), Mary and Max is Elliot’s first feature and clearly a labor of love, painstaking in detail and played out in claymation over the course of 90-odd minutes. Were this a 2D animated film, or even a 3D venture, I would hesitate showering it with as much praise as I intend to apply to Mary and Max,...

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.
The choice sleepover movie in the mid-90's was "Clueless." With a tagline like "Sex. Clothes. Popularity. Is there a problem here?" the answer was clearly no. It was witty. Funny. Fashionable. Hip. Awesome. Very, very awesome.
The plot goes like this (I'm a little ashamed for those who haven't seen the flick and need a synopsis but…): A Beverly Hills rich girl, Cher Horowitz (played brilliantly by Alicia Silverstone) and her pal, the sassy...

"They think he's a righteous dude."
For the most part, people still do. Long held as one of those pivotal teen pieces of American culture, Ferris Bueller's Day Off has been quoted the world ‘round by everyone. How many teachers or professors can you think of that have repeated the Ben Stein "Bueller....Bueller" attendance shtick? Hell, a painted water tower in the movie went on to inspire the name for the band Save Ferris. That's an entire band quoting the movie by its very existence. Ferris Bueller's Day Off became a worldwide sensation and made Matthew Broderick loveable enough that by the time he starred in Godzilla we still paid money to see him - even though we'd been told the movie was awful.

.He.s a righteous dude.. Save Ferris. A high school student decides to take the day off by faking sick. The film certainly wouldn.t make Matthew Broderick.s career sick, as it would propel him to the status of teen icon. Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? It.s a fine spring day in Chicago and Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) is going to make the most of it and won.t let something like school stand in his way. He fakes an illness to his parents (Lyman Ward and Cindy Pickett) and much to the annoyance of his resentful sister Jeanie (Jennifer Grey). Once he.s home alone he gets to work on convincing his best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck), who is really sick...
