While it may not be the pinnacle of achievement in the romantic comedy genre, the new film – Marry Me – starring Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson, proves to be a delightfully entertaining piece that surprises in how likable a film it turns out to be.
Lopez plays Kat Valdez, a character much like her real-world personage in that she is seemingly everywhere all the time. Kat is betrothed to Bastian (Maluma), a music superstar in the making himself. They currently have a single dedicated to their romance, “Marry Me,” climbing the charts as they prepare to hold the actual ceremony as part of a concert before Kat’s adoring fans. Just before the big moment however, Kat discovers evidence of Bastian’s infidelity and, as she stands before the crowd, shocked by her discovery, she spots high-school math teacher Charlie Gilbert (Wilson) in the crowd with his daughter Lou (Chloe Coleman...

Now, with the help of Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson in ‘Marry Me’ a nostalgic trip to the golden age of the rom-com with a digital age twist lands right on our doorsteps just before Valentine’s Day.

The romantic comedy as we know it has been through four phases. It was born with “It Happened One Night” (1934), and the glory of the classic romantic-comedy period (Hepburn and Tracy and so on) was the ’30s and ’40s, though it extended into the ’50s with a movie like “Pillow Talk.” The form enjoyed a cultural resurgence starting in 1989 and ’90, with the release of “When Harry Met Sally” and “Pretty Woman.” You could call that the Age of Nora Ephron, since she kind of ruled over it; the fact that that era spawned the term “rom-com” says a lot about how love comedies, in their born-again popularity, were becoming a kind of consumer product. The third phase was the Matthew McConaughey/Kate Hudson era, when the sheer cheesiness of so many studio rom-coms became its own reward; the films were turning into guilty pleasures. Then there’s the phase we...

That Jennifer Lopez is playing a thinly veiled version of herself in Kat Coiro’s mostly amiable “Marry Me” is part of the rom-com’s appeal. Here is a film focused on a wildly popular recording artist (check) who still feels somehow out of the loop (check) and who has been very publicly married many times (check) and is eager to practice a little self-reinvention (check). Lopez’s onscreen avatar, Kat Valdez, is just as appealing as Lopez herself, somehow managing to feel approachable while also being a megawatt star. You’d like to be friends with Kat, even if that seems somewhat impossible. Now imagine how that feels to good-natured math teacher Charlie (Owen Wilson), who kind of wants to be married to her.
Pulling liberally from other rom-com gems like “Notting Hill” and “Maid in Manhattan,” “Marry Me” is rife with the kind of tropes audiences expect (and desire!

Jennifer Lopez knows a thing or three about media harassment and being in the public eye 24/7, but that only makes the far-fetched romantic comedy Marry Me seem even less tolerable or redeemable than it might have looked on paper. In its opening minutes, this slickly made, music-drenched concoction serves up a premise so massively implausible — that one of the hottest female singers on the planet would replace her cheating macho fiancé in front of a live TV audience with an ineffectual single dad math teacher in his 50s — that it can never recover. It is, in two words, perfectly preposterous.
Lopez, whose last feature was the far more provocative Hustlers three years ago, plays Kat Valdez, a not unconvincing version of the star herself; she’s a sizzling entertainer at the peak of her powers whose half-her-age singer-partner Bastian (Colombian musician Maluma) has the bright idea to get it on...

Not long ago, megastar Jennifer Lopez stunned skeptics and devotees alike with her turn in “Hustlers” as Ramona, a stripper with a clandestinely lucrative operation. Deserved Oscar chatter ensued, and though the Academy ultimately denied her recognition, Lopez walked away with a few critics’ awards and a renewed reputation as a multifaceted performer.
With such bona fide praise as recent precedent, watching the insipidly banal “Marry Me” — a feature-length promotional video passing as a romantic comedy, of which she also serves as producer — elicits utter disappointment.
This adaption of the graphic novel by Bobby Crosby, directed by episodic-tv veteran Kat Coiro, sees one of the most popular women on the planet fall in love with a run-of-the-mill but kind man whose unremarkable life offers her the emotional grounding she lacks.

It’s not often a web comic gets optioned into a film produced by a superstar singer for a Hollywood studio, but that’s what happened to Bobby Crosby’s 2012 work Marry Me. Screenwriters John Rogers, Tami Sagher, and Harper Dill polish the “don’t all arranged marriages work” sentiment and pee-your-pants excitement comedic edges from the spontaneous and conflict-fueled meet-cute of 20-somethings to the existential crises of two fifty-somethings who, lost in life, are willing to take a leap of faith. The switch does wonders for palatability and marketability, charismatic performances from Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson pushing things over the finish line under director Kat Coiro’s stewardship. Her Kat Valdez is struggling to find love in the midst of fantasy; his Charlie Gilbert wasn’t even looking.

Universal Pictures has released a trailer for Jennifer Lopez’s “Marry Me,” heading to theaters on February 11, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
The romantic comedy follows Lopez as Kat, a music superstar, who marries a complete stranger (Owen Wilson) during a concert after she finds out that her boyfriend Bastian (played by musician Maluma) is cheating on her. The trailer also shows the pair seemingly falling in love — although the arrangement is only supposed to last for three months. The cast also includes Sarah Silverman, Jameela Jamil and Jimmy Fallon.
In a teaser that Lopez shared with fans on Instagram Monday, the actress is singing a track called “On My Way” with a caption reading, “Every heartbreak was a yellow brick road.” Two other songs from the film are titled, “Pa’ Ti” and “Lonely,” which Lopez and Maluma recorded together for the movie’s soundtrack.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by author Bobby Crosby. The story centres on Lopez's character, and film is said to have numerous originals by J.Lo as a singer.

“Marry Me,” Universal’s romantic comedy starring Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson and Latin pop star Maluma, has been bumped again, this time all the way to Valentine’s Day 2022.
“Marry Me” will now open on February 11, 2022, pushed back from its most recent release date on May 14, 2021. It will take the place of an untitled Universal event film on the calendar. The movie was originally meant to open this weekend in time for Valentine’s Day 2021 but was delayed until the summer after the studio dropped a teaser trailer.
The studio has also slated an untitled Blumhouse horror film for release on January 28, 2022.
Universal had already moved the spy film “The 355” to January of 2022, the action movie starring Jessica Chastain and Lupita Nyong’o that was meant to open early this year. And “Marry Me” will now open on the same date as Sony’s “Uncharted” with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.

When Maluma said 2020 was going to be a "big year" for him, he wasn't exaggerating. The 26-year-old Colombian superstar made the crossover from the Latin market to the mainstream US charts in 2018, and this was the year that revealed the seeds of his labor. Coincidentally enough, 2020 also marked the 10-year anniversary of when he first began recording music. So to say Maluma had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year is a huge understatement.
While the majority of us used our time at home to practice self-care and hone our banana-bread-baking skills (Chrissy Teigen's bundt cake recipe was my personal favorite), Maluma decided to reinvent himself and create an entirely new alter ego named "Papi Juancho." Papi Juancho was a result of Maluma's first campaign with Calvin Klein and his family's nickname for him, which is a play on his real name, Juan Luis Londoño.

I thought I was prepared for Maluma and Jennifer Lopez's performance at the American Music Awards on Sunday, but boy, was I wrong. Given that it marked Maluma's debut at the ceremony, I should have already known that he and J Lo were going to bring the heat. The duo collectively steamed up the stage as they performed their two hits, "Pa Ti" and "Lonely," which will be featured in their upcoming rom-com, Marry Me, and it certainly gave many fans flashbacks of Beyoncé and Jay-Z's 2014 Grammys performance.

“Marry Me,” the romantic comedy starring Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson and Latin pop star Maluma, has been bumped from its Valentine’s Day release to the summer of 2021.
“Marry Me” will hit theaters May 14, 2021, after first being slated for February 12. And it will take the place of “Spirit Untamed,” an animated follow-up to the horse family movie “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.” That film is now moving back a month and will open in theaters June 4, 2021.
While it’s not necessarily a sign of things to come, it is an instance of a studio moving a theatrical release not just out of Q4 of 2020 but even out of the first quarter of next year as well. Though on that weekend in February alone, studios are also releasing Paramount’s “The United States vs. Billie Holiday,” Sony Pictures Classics’ “French Exit” and 20th Century Studios’ “The King’s Man.”

Runaway bride? Jennifer Lopez’s “Marry Me,” a romantic comedy about the unlikely relationship between a pop star and a math teacher, is the latest film to shift its release date amid the pandemic.
Universal originally planned to open the movie ahead of Valentine’s Day on Feb. 12, 2021, but will now premiere the film three months later than expected on May 14.
“Marry Me” is taking the slot previously held by Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s “Spirit Untamed,” which has been moved to June 4, 2021.
In “Marry Me,” Lopez portrays a music superstar who marries a complete stranger (Owen Wilson) during one of her concerts after finding out that her partner (played by musician Maluma) is cheating on her. The cast also includes Sarah Silverman, Jameela Jamil and Jimmy Fallon.

Universal Pictures’ Jennifer Lopez music fueled romantic comedy Marry Me is moving from Presidents Day-Valentine’s Day weekend on the theatrical release calendar next year, Feb. 12 and going to May 14, 2021.
Marry Me will take the place of DreamWorks Animation’s Untitled Spirit Riding Free movie which has now been title Spirit Untamed. That animated pic will now open on June 4, 2021.
This is one of Lopez and Wilson’s highest tested features, I hear, and Universal wants to make an event out of this, at an opportune time on the calendar.
Still, with Wonder Woman 1984 expected to move, and the holiday release schedule in meltdown as we wait out the coronavirus, we can expect more 1Q 2021 theatrical releases to further shift in the future.
Marry Me leaves behind a weekend that has Disney/20th Century Studios’ The King’s Man prequel and Paramount’s untitled Lee Daniels’ Billie Holiday movie on Feb.

Production for Marry Me is well underway, and can we just take a moment to talk about the star-studded cast? The musical comedy stars Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Sarah Silverman, Chloe Coleman, and John Bradley, and marks Maluma's first feature film. The movie is based on Bobby Crosby's novel of the same name and is described as a cross between Notting Hill and A Star Is Born. It centers around Lopez's character finding out that her fiancé (Maluma) has been cheating on her with her assistant and her going on to marry a random crowd member (Wilson) instead. Lopez and Maluma recently gave fans a glimpse of what to expect when they surprised concertgoers with a duet of "No Me Ames," which she originally recorded with ex-husband Marc Anthony, in NYC. The performance will actually double as a scene in the rom-com. See more behind-the-scenes moments ahead before...

Stephanie Trepanier, Frontières creative director, told Screen: “The Off-Frontières line-up of project always allows us to include more projects we believe in, but couldn’t fit in the official 12-projects selection because of quota limitations or because the project is more advanced than the scope we set for the official Frontières line-up.
“I’m particularly happy that this selection allowed us to feature four more feature projects by Quebec talents, as well as a Canadian co-production to be directed...

It's here, it's here! All across the land today Whedonites rejoiced! The latest offering from our benevolent leader, 'In Your Eyes' released the first three minutes on Entertainment Weekly ahead of the film's premiere at the Tribeca this weekend. Still without a release date, Whedon and company are probably hoping to drum up interest so the movie doesn't languish in distributor purgatory like 'Cabin In The Woods' did. 'In Your Eyes' tells the story of two WWII era people who grow up with a unique and mysterious metaphysical bond which allows them to see through each other's eyes while one of them is asleep. It starts at childhood and blossoms into a love story as both try to balance having a life and being intimately connected with another human being on the other side of the country world during a deadly war on which they are opposing sides…...

Two weeks from now Sdcc 2013 will be winding down, so are there enough horror offerings to entice attendees back to the show for Day 4 (July 21)? With "Supernatural" kicking things off bright and early, we say, "Yes!"
Also on the schedule for Sunday (traditionally the family-themed day of the event) are "Under the Dome," an update on the adaptation of George R.R. Martin's werewolf/Pi/serial killer mashup novella The Skin Trade, a chance to build your own monster, surviving in a post-apocalyptic world, a Neil Gaiman Spotlight panel, a look at what's coming from Diamond Select Toys, a how-to on creating suspenseful, exciting, anxiety-inducing stories, and per usual, a screening of "Buffy the Musical: Once More with Feeling" to close things out.
Since the horror offerings are so light, we've expanded our Day 4 highlights list to cover such topics as the future of sci-fi novels, the 50th anniversary of "Doctor Who,...

With Mutant Chronicles director Simon Hunter currently in pre-production on the apocalyptic vampire/zombie feature Last Blood, we caught up with Vincent Guastini, head of V.G.P Effects & Design Studio, who’s been tasked with delivering the flick’s special makeup effects, to get the skinny.
"I'm very excited about working with Simon,” said Guastini of the Last Blood director. “I'm a huge Mutant Chronicles fan, and during our Skype design meetings for Last Blood, we immediately started coming up with fresh ideas for the looks for the vampires and zombies. I have some pretty ‘out there’ ideas so we'll see after more locked in meetings this week with Simon, but he has an open mind and did say, ‘Lets do something never seen before.’”
Based on the Keenspot graphic novel of the same name, Last Blood follows a small group of human survivors of a zombie apocalypse, who...

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...
