Watch out! This post contains spoilers.
At the end of "What We Do in the Shadows" season four, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) makes the drastic decision to ask Derek (Chris Sandiford) to turn him into a vampire. Fed up after years of his master, Nandor (Kayvan Novak), ignoring his pleas, he decides to get it done himself.
But at the beginning of the show's fifth season - which premiered in July - we find out Guillermo's turning didn't work. Or it did work, but only a little bit. At the start of the season, it's been 16 days and the typical vampire powers haven't fully come in for him, which is highly irregular. Guillermo can still eat food (though he does crave very rare meat) and go out in the sun. He can't, however, turn into a vampire bat and fly away.
Over the course of the season, we ultimately find out why Guillermo's transformation didn't work.

It turns out Halloween isn’t the only time of year for horror.
Director Eli Roth is bringing blood, terror and turkey in the first teaser for “Thanksgiving,” a slasher starring Patrick Dempsey, TikTok star Addison Rae and more. The movie comes to theaters in time for the holiday season on Nov. 17.
Here’s the creepy logline: “After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the infamous holiday.”
In the trailer, a pilgrim-themed killer hunts down his victims in a bloody fashion, including one particularly spine-chilling kill in a walk-in freezer.
“Thanksgiving” is the full vision of a fake trailer showcased in Roth, Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s 2007 horror “Grindhouse.” In the original trailer, Roth stars while a mysterious slasher invades a small town in Massachusetts amid the holiday.

[Editor’s note: This article contains spoilers for “What We Do in the Shadows” Season 5, Episode 10, “Exit Interview.”]
After the Season 5 finale, “What We Do in the Shadows” has changed forever.
Or… will it stay exactly the same? Throughout the series, the FX comedy’s writers have proved how adept they are at maintaining equilibrium without sacrificing sitcom shenanigans and character development. Episode 510, “Exit Interview,” drives this home spectacularly, but realigns the show’s central mission moving forward.
For as long as there has been “What We Do in the Shadows” — literally since Episode 101 — Guillermo de la Cruz (Harvey Guillén) has wanted to be a vampire. Even when he found out he had Van Helsing blood, when he killed other vampires to save his friends, he remained loyal to Nandor (Kayvan Novak) through 13 years of service with exactly one goal at the end of it.
Not anymore.

There may be more to the title of What We Do in the Shadows’ season 5 finale than meets the eye. Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) makes some major changes in “Exit Interview,” and Colin Robinson’s (Mark Proksch) questioning means more than just how much the Staten Island vampires will have to pay his successor. The familiar and bodyguard with the Van Helsing DNA makes a choice, but now he has to live with it until he dies a natural death.
What’s Up With Guillermo’s Beard?
Vampires are immortal, spending their nights eternally frozen at the moment of death. They no longer breathe; they only consume blood, they don’t pump it; all their bodily functions cease. What We Do in the Shadows, season 5 episode 5 reaches a high-water mark in comedy for the series, and a dramatic high point for Guillermo de la Cruz (Harvey Guillén).
Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak) proved vampires can ascend to the inner reaches of outer space during “Pride Parade;” Guillermo is close to cracking the glass ceiling for human familiars. While Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Laszlo (Matt Berry), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) deal with oversaturation in the media, their most useful human liaison is preparing for a major career move. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for What We Do in the Shadows Season 5 Episodes 1 & 2, “The Mall” & “A Night Out with the Guys.”] Dark greetings are in order for the return of What We Do in the Shadows, which answered a big question in the Season 5 premiere, “The Mall,” revealing whether or not Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) went through with his proposition to Derek (Chris Sandiford), asking the convenience store employee to turn him into a vampire. “Guillermo has been playing by the rules his whole life and this career path that he’s taken with being familiar… things aren’t paying off,” Guillén notes of his character. “So sometimes you gotta take matters into your own hands. So this season, that’s exactly what he is doing, and the outcome may not be what he expected.” (Credit: Russ Martin /FX) For fans who did tune in, they learned that Guillermo’s big ask was granted by ...

In keeping with the unique traditions which the show follows, What We Do in the Shadows season 5 picks up where the series left off. How much we remember might depend on the vampire hypnosis of Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), whose vampire club Nadja’s bled out by the conclusion. As is their fashion, the major problems of the previous season were taken care of with the doting natural nurturing of Baby Colin Robinson (Mark Proksh), who grew to the energy draining monster he was always destined to be, while new arcs are introduced. The finale concluded with Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) approaching Vampire Derek (Chris Sandiford) for a transformational transfusion.

What We Do in the Shadows is gearing up for another darkly funny season at FX, and TV Insider was on location in Toronto to chat with the stars on the set of the vampire comedy. In November 2022, we traveled to the chilly Canadian city for a glimpse at what’s to come from the vampire roommates and their familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillen). While we can’t reveal all that has been shared, we are able to pull back the curtain enough to cast some vampire-safe light on the stories ahead. As viewers will recall, Season 4 ended with Guillermo visiting his pal Derek (Chris Sandiford) with the proposition to turn him into a vampire in exchange for a bag full of money. But will they go through with the task? Viewers will have to tune in and see, but star Kayvan Novak, who plays Guillermo’s “Master” Nandor, did tease...

The trailer for the fifth season of What We Do in the Shadows reveals that Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) does get turned into a vampire, as he has so long desired, or so he thinks.
After season four ended with Guillermo offering Derek (Chris Sandiford) money for the latter to make him immortal, the trailer for the upcoming fifth season shows Derek carrying out his request and biting Guillermo’s neck. However, it seems Guillermo is not able to access his new powers.
“I thought the transformation would be overnight but it’s been 16 days. I can’t turn into a bat yet,” he says as footage plays of him jumping off the porch and saying “bat,” like Laszlo (Matt Berry) does, but nothing happens: He just hits the ground.
Later Laszlo encourages Guillermo to leap off the balcony inside the house, causing Guillermo to fall flat on his face.

FX is celebrating Pride Month this year by giving fans a first look at their favorite queer vampires. The channel has released the trailer for Season 5 of “What We Do in the Shadows,” the critically-acclaimed sitcom adaptation of the mockumentary film.
Released in 2014, the original “What We Do in the Shadows” was directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, who also starred in the film as immortal vampires living in suburban New Zealand. The show, which premiered in 2019, takes the basic premise but translates it to America, following another household of vampires living on Staten Island. The roommates in the show include former emperor Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak), married couple Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Laszlo (Matt Berry), boring energy vampire Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), and Nandor’s familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén).

Dark greetings are in order for Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) as it appears everyone’s favorite familiar is undergoing some unusual transformations in the Season 5 trailer for What We Do in the Shadows. Set to return Thursday, July 13 on FX, the offbeat comedy from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi continues the story of vampire roommates, Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch). All the while, Nandor’s familiar, Guillermo is continuing to keep up appearances while he tries figuring out what’s going on with himself after paying his pal (and vampire) Derek (Chris Sandiford) to bite him. Roughly a month ahead of its return, “What We Do in the Shadows” has released its Season 5 trailer. The first two episodes are set to stream on FX on Hulu Thursday, July 13. After that, the series will return to a weekly release schedule.
Last season ended with Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), a longtime familiar and heir to the vampire-killing Hellsing family, paying the hapless vampire Derek (Chris Sandiford) to secretly turn transform him into an undead monster. That’s exactly where Season 5 picks up. As Guillermo navigates his new and lackluster vampiric powers, he’ll also have to hide what he’s done from his roommates, friends and master.
“I thought the transformation would be overnight, but it’s been 60 days,” Guillermo says in the trailer. “I can’t even turn into a bat.”
Dejected after trying and failing, he finally stands upright and says, “Human form.”

What We Do in the Shadows may be a silly show about vampire roommates living on Staten Island, but the FX comedy also has a lot of heart that star Harvey Guillén is looking back on in a recent chat with TV Guide Magazine and TV Insider’s Jim Halterman at New York Comic-Con. The actor who plays human familiar Guillermo de la Cruz in the mockumentary-style series left fans with a major cliffhanger as he sought out becoming a vampire by means of money, bribing friend and vampire Derek (Chris Sandiford) to bite him. Will he carry through with the endeavor? (Credit: Russ Martin/FX) Fans won’t know until Season 5, but Guillén is taking time to reflect on what Guillermo’s accomplished onscreen and how it relates to his experience with the character’s story behind the scenes. “It’s so nice to be able to play a character that has those layers,...

What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 Episode 6
Speak now, because you’ll be holding your peace for the duration of What We Do in the Shadows’ “The Wedding,” if Laszlo (Matt Berry) has anything to say about it. Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak) is living up to his name. The once-living and still blood-thirsty medieval warlord will stop at nothing to procure the perfect wedding, and sees only treachery and betrayal in its path. His campaign is almost Shakespearean in its tragic comedy, and plays out well for the groundlings.
The quest for the perfect mix of matrimonial makings grinds the Best Man, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), magnificently under its weight. The former-familiar now bodyguard-and-embezzling-bookkeeper bottles more conflicting emotions and anguish than a Djinn’s (Anoop Desaigenie) lamp could contain, so when Guillermo cracks in his first onscreen appearance, it is a wish fulfilled.

"I can feel you flowing through!!" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for a new comedy series titled God's Favorite Idiot, the latest creation from the husband-wife comedy duo Melissa McCarthy & Ben Falcone. Usually Falcone directs McCarthy in Hollywood comedies but this time he stars as the main character in this workplace comedy about what would happen if he suddenly started glowing after being struck by lightning. In God's Favorite Idiot, Mid level Tech support employee Clark Thompson finds love with co-worker Amily Luck at exactly the same time he becomes the unwitting messenger of God. There's also roller skating, a lake of fire and an apocalypse, too. This looks like they went all out with the religious imagery. Falcone stars with McCarthy, and an ensemble cast including Leslie Bibb as Satan, Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney, and Yanic Truesdale. This seems extra quirky...

A higher power is calling upon Ben Falcone to do some good in God’s Favorite Idiot, the latest comedy from the actor-creator and Melissa McCarthy that drops June 15 on Netflix. The streamer has unveiled the first trailer for the series (see above).
Here’s the logline for the comedy: “Clark Thompson (Falcone) is a mid-level tech support employee, who takes saunas with his dad, Gene (Kevin Dunn), pines after his co-worker Amily (McCarthy), and loves his cats. When he starts to glow, he begins to realize this isn’t an average day at the office and God has bigger plans for him. Clark can’t save mankind by himself, he must gather his flock of mismatched co-workers, his longtime crush Amily and angelic allies to outwit Satan herself (Leslie Bibb). Together, they’re just a bunch of average humans coming together for the greater good because, after all, you can’t save the world alone.

When he starts to glow, he begins to realize this isn’t an average day at the office and God has bigger plans for him.
In the trailer, which you can watch above, Clark is struck by lightning — and Amily witnesses it. The next day, she races to work to tell their co-workers what happened.
“I saw something crazy last night, and I do want to just be completely open and honest,” she says. “Yes, I did cocaine twice last week, but I did zero cocaine preceding the event I’m about to describe.
